It's that time again. The oldest club fixture in world rugby.
Glasgow looking for an unprecedented fifth successive win.

Just looked on the Warriors site; the player of the month candidates
Cusiter
Bennett
Gray
Russell
Maitland
Welsh
Strauss
My first thought was that every one of them has played out of his skin at some point this last month and choosing one would be difficult.
My next thought was, could the MFL pick seven players who deserve pass marks this month? Not outstanding performances just not being an embarrassment would do.

Are we really going to stop so near to the magic 1,000 posts? That would disappoint me.
How else are we going to maintain reputation as the funniest and gobbiest posters on these boards?

There we go!
Another question to stimulate discussion - where is the worst place to live, Dundee or Fife?
I'm going to go for Fife, as I lived in Dundee for 5 years as a student and it is an awesome place to be a student! Just wouldn't want to live there permanently....
Plus Fife is a dump.

When will Glasgow ever get to the knock out stages of a the HCup (or whatever it'll be called next season)?
Re: 1872 Cup Thread 2014: Glasgow vs Edinburgh
Sitting next to Olli Atkins, Tom Brown and a bearded Chris Leck(?), in an undisclosed coffee shop. Brown is still on crutches - huge knee brace. I thought Leck had gone already...? What's he been doing?

So, in Ediburg the location of the coffee shops is kept secret! Keeps the tourists out I suppose.
And those who would lower the tone by requesting, "A glass o' Tizer and a Tunnock's caramel log, doll." Yes, Asbo we know who I mean.

you know, we really do talk some pish eh!
speaking of pish! Eurovision is on tomorrow!
Apparently if Britain win the thing, Edinburgh win the 1872 cup, Glasgow progress into the knock out stages of the euro-cup and Rhubarb Jackson shaves his beard then that will be the four signs of the appocolypse!

See, your Caramel Log is just a "Gateway" confectionary. It leads to Tea Cakes and next thing you know you're round the back of City Bakeries trying to swap your grannies signed Max Bygraves albums for "just one slice o' that Millionaires Shortbread, missus"

They must have been quite pleased to be done for the season and not have to go to Dublin, I know I would!
I know Tom Brown's older brother from my school days so said hi but didn't stay and chat. I did over hear them chatting (grumbling) about pre-season so I guess ol' pappy has a gruelling regime planned for them. There was a radio between me and them so didn't wasn't able to eavesdrop fully and bring you lot the inside gossip.
And the super secret coffee shop on Broughton Street is so small that those lads took up half of it... Atkins is a big lad!
But seriously Chris Leck? Has he been coaching or something? He hasn't played this season, has he? He must be 5th choice Scrum Half behind Laidlaw, Hart, Sam H-C and Kennedy.

Re: 1872 Cup Thread 2014: Glasgow vs Edinburgh
I know right, check me out rubbing shoulders with Edinburgh Rugby's finest...
It took me half an hour to recognise Leck, he's sporting a Strauss/Jackson like beard
To be honest, I've never met Tom before and last time I saw his big brother was at Murrayfield for the HC QF against Toulouse (also that was my birthday, so was a very good day!). I remember him saying wee Tom had stayed at his family home the night before and was very nervous for the big game. He ended up playing fantastically so was a great day all round.
I think Brown is a great player who gets better the more he plays but that knee brace was massive so let's hope he gets fit for pre-season!

That was my birthday too - 25!

Did you play much rugby? I was at a state school so if you went to a private school chances are we wouldn't have played against each other.
Which I suppose is one of the problems with Scottish rugby!

Sadly we wouldn't have met I don't think. Unfortunately, I was disliked by my parents and spent my secondary education in England. What's worse is that it was private (I came from the Scottish state system) and I was the only Scot in my year. We did play Merchiston once a year when they went on tour. I supported Merchy of course, (they usually beat us too!).
Good rugby heritage my school had, biggest name to come of would be Lawrence Dallaglio. Our rivals though, were much better (Sedbergh). My older brother's opposite number in the first XV matches against Sedbergh was James Simpson-Daniel...
Just been told by my brother who's stopped by to steal some DVDs, I have been told I have the physical build of Chris Paterson - ie can't get past 12st
And yes, I too can be found on the wing, running around the chubby chappies
And getting munched if I get too close to one of them...

Actually, in Glasgow I am sure that it's "A-poke-o'chips Now".jimbopip wrote:tigertattie wrote:you know, we really do talk some pish eh!
speaking of pish! Eurovision is on tomorrow!
Apparently if Britain win the thing, Edinburgh win the 1872 cup, Glasgow progress into the knock out stages of the euro-cup and Rhubarb Jackson shaves his beard then that will be the four signs of the appocolypse!
In Glasgow we spell it Apocolypse, now.

Poor tigertattie - the product of the Edinburgh education system and the only MFL who doesn't think Denton is a better player than Kieran Reid !

Kieran Reid isn't fit to lace one direction Denton's boot laces apparently.

I think you'll find that rugby's answer to Clare Balding doesn't need to lace his boots: he wears sling backs.
