England vs Wales 9th March
First topic message reminder :
Let's look towards the next game after getting ourselves back on track against France, just like last year, after the Irish put the spanner in the works.

England are big favs at the bookies- approx 1.5's in decimal or 1/2, Wales are approx 3's or 2/1

Re: England vs Wales 9th March
Wales are not a likeable side but they are a good side. Not the best in the NH but still tough enough and good enough to beat England on their day.
Wales are probably my least favourite NH side but I would want you to break your duck vs the tri nations sides as long as you showed a bit of humility.

Thread went very quiet after the bookies odds were posted.
I was expecting a ton of money placed against England at those prices.

Why did it go quiet I think most level headed fans would admit England are slight faves given performances so far and home advantage.

I agree with that, but I don't think its down to the players as most of the them seem like decent blokes (apart from Phillips and that new winger!) but the Coaching staff & WRU get right up my nose, thats why I like to see them lose.

So much talk about Wales as favourites earlier this morning, so it would be easy money for those who believe their own talk.

We love the actual Welsh players.. decent rugby blokes they are.
But some of their 606 'fans' get a bit cocky and irksome about being 'champs' and all.
Maybe that is what some of the other fans find easy to dislike.

Will always bet on Wales even in the dark days of the 90s I always bet on us, 2005 had 10 tenner on us at 33/1 for the slam.

Now we have two Englishmen haggling over the price of betting on Wales, while actual Welsh fans stand around in bewildered silence outside the bookies window.. wahaha
I am looking forward to this match, but just hope I am not deluded.

LOL. Welsh fans and bewildered silence go hand in hand. it's an occupational hazard of a team which regularly produces upsets both very good and very bad.

So Wales are the new France ?
Now we are obliged to ask ourselves this old question:
"which one will turn up on Sunday ?"

in every match there is a favourite. in almost every match there is a winner.
statistically, even if the result is a 50:50 toss-up, the favourite wins 50% of the time.
and just to correct you on a small point, England i seem to remember were actually favourites at the 2012 match at HQ as BOTH teams were in the running for a GS, and Wales had NEVER previously sealed a triple crown at HQ.
but dont let facts get in the way of your ranting.
Oh pal, England were not favourites for the game at HQ in 2012. Nice try though . We were favourites for the Slam in 2012 and we got the Slam when you said we can't handle being favourites. What more proof that you're wrong do you need?

Mainly because of Welsh fans.
As scrumpy and others said - the players themselves aren't bad blokes.
Can be a bit annoying when most Welsh players are labelled "world class" though.
Dan Lydiate can tackle - world class
Halfpenny is a very good goal kicker - world class
Jamie Roberts looks like Desperate dan - world class
Mike Phillips - glorified flanker - world class
Toby Faletau - cousin of the vunipola bros - world class
Jonathan Davies - better centre than BOD - world class
Alex Cuthbert - expert at outpacing a full back who was on the wing - world class
George North - a big bloke famous for picking up an Aussie - world class
Adam Jones - great hair and beard - world class
Etc.
Going to be tough for England to win.

I know, I started the thread about it. It's that link just above.optimist wrote:Rugby Fan wrote:yappysnap wrote:What's this about??
Optimist is referring to a new drill Mike Catt introduced in training. Some player apparently said they couldn't hear the calls, so Catt wants them to use their eyes more rather than rely on calls.
https://www.606v2.com/t52285-england-players-encouraged-to-pay-attention-to-what-is-happening
You'd think noise is always a problem but I thought it was worth noting Moore's observation that it seemed even louder to him last weekend.
According to the Daily Telegraph a couple of days ago, Mike Catt is using flashing disco lights of different colours, to train players to rely more on visual signals than audible ones which were drowned out by the crowd in the game against Ireland and, according to Catt, led to mistakes by some England players!

There is a number of reasons, one of which is that the Irish will tend to be able to argue about individual issues forever without getting upset, losing their sense of humor, or switching to insults when they dont like the direction things are going.

Re: England vs Wales 9th March
The Saint I have a lot of respect for Wales. So many world class players. It's going to be tough. We all know that it was essentially Wales who singlehandedly beat Australia on the Lions tour, the other guys from Ireland and England were there just to carry the bags and the water respectively. The Scots.....well they weren't even allowed to do that.
Player for Player Wales are far superior. Bigger, stronger and more experienced.
Far better coaches with far more experience.
It's the equivalent of David vs Goliath.
Wales have also got the psychological edge after hammering England last year. Twickenham holds no fear for the behemoths in the Welsh side.
I am of course very nervous. Wales are just that good.

For once I am in complete agreement for you. Now if you could just stop believing Sarries are the best team in the world and Ashton is the best winger in the world, there would be nil conflict.

Very good....
The only player on that list who is 'world class' is Adam jones, and by that i mean 'was world class'.

Saint should make a killing at 2/1.
He will trouser three times his stake with that big bet on the sure fire favourites which the bookies have so mispriced.
All around to his local to help him celebrate the winnings.

Sarries aren't the best team in the world, not even the best in Europe, probably top 2 in England at the moment though - top 8 in Europe would be fair in my opinion.
Ashton is not the best winger in the world, again not in Europe or in England but he's not as bad as you make out.
