Martinez will be incredibly irritated at how easily Everton have surrendered the fight for fourth place after destroying Arsenal not too long ago.

The chants of "shoot" when Coleman got the ball in his own half were also pretty genius

Random stat! Only West Ham (20) have lost more points from winning positions than Southampton (18) this season in the Premier League.

You know you aren't Champions League material when you lose to CP at home and you're defence is at fault TWICE away at a mid-table team. All be it, CP needed something but Everton needed the points as well, but they dropped all 3 and cost themselves a place in the Top 4. Now they are losing against Southampton that aren't playing for anything and it's their defence that has twice cost them here against Southampton, which is poor. Martinez was right in saying earlier in the season that his team wasn't ready for Champions League football, but, arguably, this has been their best chance for years, since they last got in it and then dropped out of both European competitions actually, but I think they've blown it now. Especially now Arsenal have the initiative against an out-of-form Newcastle side. Arsenal win and Everton lose, Arsenal go 4 points in front.

Arsenal should have it sewn up in a couple of weeks which may be good for Norwich, who play them last.

Yes hopefully so Freeky they'll be gearing up for the cup final so you'd think they won't risk injuries

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
It's a real shame that Everton have failed to really deliver on the promise of challenging Arsenal for their usual fourth place. I get the feeling that it is simply a stay of execution for Wenger though. I wouldn't even be surprised if he considered leaving at the end of this year on a relative high of fourth place and the FA Cup, rather than waiting until the inevitable where his contract isn't renewed because he doesn't bring Champions League football. Arsenal are just a bit stale at the moment, stuck in a Wenger rut that is unlikely to change.
He has obviously been fantastic for them, and there will obviously be huge worries after he goes of the long-term stability, but even after bringing in a big money player, Arsenal haven't really moved. Not sure he's the man to take them forward.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
Fantastic season for Southampton though, they have managed to maintain their position in the top half despite the fact that they got themselves well above any relegation fight very early and have had problems behind the scenes. Will be interesting to see how well run the club is going into the future. They've obviously had a few dodgy things, how close Nicholas Cortese was to the players and manager and the fact that he has now gone, also, while it seems justified now, the sacking of Nigel Adkins does make you wonder if the club has the potential to go a bit wrong.
This summer will be huge, can see big bids for Luke Shaw certainly, Adam Lallana most possibly and the likes of Rodriguez, Cork, Schneiderlin, Wanyama, Lovren, Clyne, Chambers are all not safe from the sniffing around of big clubs either. If they can keep hold of manager and the majority of players while buying well, they could push on next season and perhaps have a more sustained push for Europa League places.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
Southampton are in for a difficult summer in my opinion. With rumours flying about with regards to their key players (Shaw, Lallana, Rodriguez) and their manager being linked with several higher profiles jobs, they will have great difficulty keeping the nucleus of what is a very good squad together. If they sell the players above, lose Pochettino and sell other important players without replacing them, it could be a difficult season.
I suppose this the norm these days, that when squads have a good season, the get picked apart by the vultures from higher above. Usually destroying the players in the process.

Aston Villa will be looking over their shoulders as well. Particularly if Cardiff get a run going, Norwich and Villa could both go down and Lambert will have to ask himself, "what the hell happened?"

Least they know they are guaranteed to recover that bargain fee they paid for the greatest goalscorer in EPL history..

Think the quality has decreased a fair bit recently, if we can hold onto a good core of players we should be competing up the right end

De Gea; Jones, Vidic (c), Ferdinand, Evra; Valencia, Carrick, Cleverley, Kagawa; Welbeck, Rooney.
Giggs' first team.
4-4-2? Or is Kagawa finally being given a chance behind the striker. Surprised he has dropped Mata who, despite not having a great start to his career at United, is the best player they have.
