We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
First topic message reminder :
Well, as I started one for the Championship, it seems now is the time for the Premier League 2014/15 thread to begin!
We have all our teams, with Leicester, Burnley and QPR replacing Cardiff, Fulham and Norwich. Can City retain, can United break into the top four, how will Liverpool cope with Champions League football. All this and more can be discussed as we see how the transfers, the rumours, the World Cup and everything else make an impact on the Premier League before it all kicks off?
I'll open it up...the Telegraph, Sky Sports and others report Pochettino is top of Spurs' shortlist and could be unveiled in the next week. Thoughts? Sounds the perfect fit to me. Some suggesting he'll bring Rodriguez with him, although that sounds like immediate clutching to me.

Quite the stat that O'Shea and Brown have a combined age higher than our back three.

United are a shambles at the moment, but it will get better. Mata simply isn't good enough to get away with doing so little graft work, especially in a team lacking graft to begin with

Seriously, I think Jones and Blackett have done alright today - the goal wasn't their fault. Keane's not had to to anything yet but he's looked good on the ball.

Blackett has looked very composed today.
That is a definite penalty, he's gone straight through him.

The problem isn't the front three and the back three haven't done anything wrong but it's the central of midfield, offering no protection and not spreading the ball quick enough.

Think this also goes to show the importance of an 'aura' at a football club. Manchester United were seen as close to unbeatable as you can get, especially by teams outside of the traditional top four. Now that aura has been scraped away, teams are much happier to have a go.

Good players and performances give you an aura.
Wouldn't say Sunderland are particularly having a go, it's just an even game as we don't have a great side.

Palace are doomed.. The other teams around us look decent..
No way are they going to sell us wickham.. He is stalling to get more on his contract . Sunderland will pay up eventuay.

I wish someone in this united team had the balls to fire a firm pass into someone and expect them to control it.
Team full of cowards with zero conviction, no one wants the ball, safety first every time.

Sunderland gotta be disappointed with that point.
If you want to become a mid table side you've gotta be beating your fellow mid table sides at home

Defensively it was much better but a non existent midfield killed us going forward and against better team will put the defence under even more pressure. We need to stop messing around and pay whatever it takes to get Vidal.

Re: We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
Ok this is the way I look at it from a utd fan perspective:
Negatives:
- Fletcher and Cleverly are awful. Bang average players. Laboured on the ball, can't tackle or provide protection to the back 4. No wonder RVP, Mata and Rooney were quiet today as they rarely get the ball when they want it or not at all.
- Young and Valencia (Despite the assist) are awful. Won't see two more one dimensional players and it must be a walk in the park to defend against them.
Positives:
If we make the signing of Di Maria, another cb and a cm then we won't have to see Young/Valencia/Fletcher/Cleverly anywhere near the team.
To come back in from injury or transfer wise:
Carrick - For cleverly/fletcher
Herrera - for cleverly/fletcher
Shaw - Young
Rafael - Valencia
Di Maria - Young/Valencia
Vidal/De Jong/Blind - cdm
Another positive, the cb's who I thought did well today. Jones was commanding and read the game well, Smalling was solid enough before going off and Blackett and Keane did ok and looked good on the ball.
Things get worse before they improve so it's a big week for Utd in the transfer market to say the least.
So despite that horr

Be interested to see lvgs opinion.
I thought Blackett was the only bright spark today.
Let's face it Sunderland are average and didn't really work de gea - it was as straightforward a week as the centre halfs are going to get.
Passing was just so poor, no pace to it no tempo- always sideways and safety first.

agree, passing was so bad. Just so slow and no tempo to our game. Didn't understand the decision to play Januzaj in cm. He should have come on for Young and played wide and then kagawa at cm.
Yes Sunderland didn't test our back 3 that much but still good performances by Blackett and Jones.
I actually think it was a pen on Young. There was definite contact but its his theatrics and his history that counted against him.

This week, we need to go all out for Benatia and Vidal. Simple as that. Sign those two and we're looking good again. If we can't, then we should sign De Jong and possibly Blind, but with Blind we already have our left footed cb in rojo, and also shaw and rojo to cover lwb so I don't really see the need for him really.

I reckon Blackett deserves to be in the mix for partnering whoever hopefully comes in, think he's been the bright spot of the team so far.

Vidal is a pipe dream, may as well try sign messi.
Benatia presumably off to bayern, should have got in there earlier!
Di Maria on his way from the looks of it. Expect others to leave.

Might as well try and sign Messi after all he hasn't got a dodgy knee, the actual reason the deal hasn't happened.
