Re: Scotland Summer Tour, Game 3: Argentina v Scotland, 21 June
Argentina, being organised in defence and strong over the ball, are well poised to exploit Scotlands lack of incision. Kind of frustrating to watch. Argentina are good for their lead- they could have had a yellow but if you get into the positions Scotland do and make nothing of them, do you really deserve to win?

It looked as though Fife, who was running a support line, tripped a Puma defender who was trying to catch Pyrgos.Rugby Fan wrote:I'm watching with the sound down. Why was that try sent to the TMO?
But the players both fell over each other, rather than anything sinister having happened.

Possible interference with the chasing team. I think.

I've just witnessed two outrageous occurrences:
1. Scotland snatch another win which really wasn't justified by the performance
2. Nick de Useless pushing Swinson away as the big fella stopped NdL making a Muppet out of himself over the Fusaro handbags - I sincerely hope he never appears in a Scotland jersey again

Still - we won, in Argentina!!
Seymour, gilchrist, Pyrgos did well, and I thought Low and De Luca out in good shifts too.
Credit where credit is due for De Luca!

Well Cotter's record is looking pretty good!
Sadly the links wouldn't work (thanks GC and RDW for trying though), but I'm delighted with the result. Away wins in Argentina are not to be sniffed at and whilst we had to beat USA and Canada, this one was touch and go.
Now for the Saffas.....

Set piece did fine. Ball retention often rubbish, phase play sporadic, defence poor at times. But as Kellock just said in the studio, how often have we sat and said 'well, we could have won that'. We did win it. I don't think anyone is suggesting that we played really well.

Also Asbo, given that he's not played in months and was a flown out as emergency cover, and ended up putting a good shift in, is it not a bit of an over reaction to say he shouldn't play for Scotland again because he got a bit excited in the heat of the moment?
You're also missing out the fact that Fusaro was the one that got involved and potentially give away a match losing penalty in the first place!

You sound like an England wendyball fan!
Performance mattered against USA and Canada, games we should have won. This was different. It was always going to be a messy scrap, we're missing a bunch of key players and are two weeks into a new regime. Good win, and to come back like that shows spirit, NDL included. I haven't seen the performance, and it sounds like we didn't play well, but that's a good result.

Talking about the heat of the moment, anyone else hear Blair Cowan shouting "I'll break your f%$king face!" at the Argentinian front rower in the first half.

Re: Scotland Summer Tour, Game 3: Argentina v Scotland, 21 June
Much improved performance in some aspects but I think composure is still an issue (he says after they win in the dying breath of the game). Hugo Southwell actually was fairly apt in his description, we've won three but the improvement isn't good enough. Nonetheless about 10 times happier than I was this time last week, I think South Africa will be a steam rollering, and I'm concerned about Fusaro's discipline too, the whole point of being a 7 is that you're at least subtle with your infringements, he needs a cool head. Of the players out there, Seymour, Gray Jr, Hogg and Pyrgos have made their mark. Nice to see an improved performance from Ross Ford, he seems to have got his head back into the game. Surprised by Gilchrist, pleasantly though, he had a fairly sound game I felt. Rob Harley is looking good and was key to a few turnovers and Cowan was making a nuisance of himself quite nicely although not as strong as his previous performances (possibly because the games were so dire anyway). Grayson Hart seems to have been influenced a little by Laidlaw but thankfully not too much, he played OK. Weir had a bit of a mare, I think he just lost his cool after the first 30 minutes, but that's a resolvable issue, just composure again, regained it at the right time thankfully!
I think there's a few positives we can definitely take out of that game, and we cannot underestimate the boost a win like that gives a team, as we must bare in mind Scotland trailed for about 60 minutes of that game. I think there'll be lots Cotter will be looking to improve, but our set piece is looking good, that's the foundations, just need to sort our rucking game.
I think if we can keep it to within 10 points against SA I'll be reasonably happy.

How did Cowan get on generally? Sounds like the breakdown was once again not our friend, although clearly that's not the fault of one player.

He put in a lot of effort, but the Argies had the better of the breakdown really - they were all clearly well drilled on that part of the game. He also missed a tackle that lead to a try.

Talking about the heat of the moment, anyone else hear Blair Cowan shouting "I'll break your f%$king face!" at the Argentinian front rower in the first half.
How did Cowan get on generally? Sounds like the breakdown was once again not our friend, although clearly that's not the fault of one player.
The breakdown was weird. Argentina ran a soft drift defence but when the ball hit the deck they flooded the area and we often lost ball we just shouldn't have. The Argie loose forwards weren't the largest, but were quick - hence getting Fozzy on to compete at their own game became an increasingly obvious thing to do. Then when Fozzy did on with 19 minutes to go, he was so over eager that he set up a driving maul without enough protection and got stripped and then started giving away penalties. Cowan toiled a lot but I don't recall a great return.
The simple fact is that Barclay and Rennie are quite a bit better than our next options. And you can see why someone would just stick Kellybrows in there instead.

Injury wise there was nothing obvious, but Horne did seem to be taken off a bit prematurely.
No apparent forward injuries and that's the main thing!

Poor(ish) game, excellent win.
It's really worrying that no matter who we are playing , be it Argentina A or the All Blacks we kick the ball away too much and we just don't convert enough final third possession into tries.
Lost the breakdown tonight and lost it badly. Wasn't impressed at all by Hart, massive improvement when Pygros came on.
For all the chat about Maitland v Visser, Seymour is the best winger we have. Liked Hugo Southwell in the studio giving away the fact he didn't watch us in North America, by saying Tommy has been excellent in all three tests this summer.

I think the tours have been great for Argentina. Resting their top squad means they now have a much wider squad to chose from going into the world cup. I think back up have improved on last year.
