Rio de Janiero - 2014 Fifa World Cup Thread
Tbf this isn't the same Costa that's been playing for Atletico, a long hard season and a few injuries catching up with him here I thinkowen10ozzy wrote:Diego Costa for £32 million isn't looking to hot either...Chelsea could be looking at the 3 most expensive striker flops in history in Shevchenko, Torres and now Costa.
He lacks pace and mobility which for me are essential in the premiership.

Well, this is going to be a cracking second half. Spain have to go all out attack and then leave themselves open to a third.
Can't wait.

Casillas should have done better, but he was completely unmarked in the box. This team is done.

I wish England played nice football like Spain...er, hang on a sec.
Yep, so excited about Spain getting a beating, forgot about the Aussies.
England gonna do it tomorrow 99% positive.

Without a doubt the end of Spain's Golden Generation as it stands. New team and manager for France in 2 years

The frustrating thing is Spain clearly have the players to perform better than this.
For example A competent goal keeper and they would have conceded 3 less over the 2 games.

Might see a more direct, PL approach, with Silva, Costa and Fabregas now based in the PL

Silva has been crap and can't make a pass so I doubt it.
Edit: unless you mean long term.

Which means they would have only lost 3-1 and would only be 1-0 down here

Much better start to the half from Spain; predominantly because Chile are standing off more.

Might as well stick Torres on. 2 ineffective Chelsea strikers is better than 1

Honestly I think if a player is going to be stretchered away, he has to stay off the field for a minimum of five minutes... If you need the stretcher, then you need proper medical attention

Re: Rio de Janiero - 2014 Fifa World Cup Thread
They hav Costa in the box and even when they have it out wide they refuse to cross it! Like watching Barca for past 2 years.
I'm not so sure it's that Tik tak football is dead so much as teams have tried to over complicate it; attempt that one pass too many, try to work it too much. There used to be a time when they would make 3-4 intricate passes then look for the killer ball. Now it's 5-6 and by then they are closed down or just stuck on edge with no gaps to thread through.

Easy for chile this.
I'm not sure Spain could score if they were on their own on the pitch.
The just over complicate everything and constantly go back into congested areas with their passing.

Chile physicality is fantastic. To keep that quality of pressing in defense for so long is a great achievement. Spain hopeless now. Sad to see when you remember how they cruised during the last euro.

Yeah but were never really in danger. They dispatched France with ease and no need to mention the final.
All history now chile-brazil in the next round will be interesting. Should be 3-0 now, Chile should look at bettering their goal average.

Nothing lasts forever.
I think they can come again, they are just a parody of what they used to be now.

think heynkes bayern showed the way, keep the ball well by all means but you cant be afraid of crossing the ball when your in the position to do so, real this season weren't afraid either

That opportunity just illustrates the problem - I the last 3 tournaments that pass would have out Torres in for a shot.
Instead they messed around trying some craZily complex 4 way passing move.

The style has become too indirect, and the key players running out of legs and perhaps motivation
