Rio de Janiero - 2014 Fifa World Cup Thread
First topic message reminder :
Belgium have not impressed me at all, lack cohesion. I think that under Klinsmann, the USA are tactically superior and will pick Belgium on a counter attack.

Funny how many players suddenly improve in national colours. Sanchez, like Neymar turns into the son of Superman in national colours. Maybe they get energized by the sun without Messi's shadow looming.

19 goals and 10 assists is hardly a poor season...

Used to enjoy watching Brazil - about 25 years ago. No longer that mystical side. In fact, the play like everyone else these days.

If I was Barca and had paid that amount of money I'd want more than that.

The Chileans would need step ladders to reach those corner kicks. Tiny players!

+1
They were brilliant back in the day, now they are the worst (or best) exponents at diving and ref conning.

This game is going to get very, very ugly if Chile score next.
Neymar is playing with the sort of intensity that will see him either get sent off, injured, or score a hattrick.

I think that he should already be on a yellow myself. Ref's seem afraid to card him for some reason.

Agreed. He's also been afraid to book Fernandinho, who should have had at least one yellow by now.

this is the first game i have watched in england. and i am half asleep- but it just looks like a villa v palace game to me. we have hansen and the standard bunch. Lineker just called it extraordinary.
he is being paid to build it up or has gone insane

Re: Rio de Janiero - 2014 Fifa World Cup Thread
There have been 3 Brazilians (Neymar, Fernandinho and Luiz) who have all only had cautions from Webb when they have all done as bad, if not worse, than the two yellows for Chile.
I really do think that ref's are afraid to punish Brazilians for fear of revocation.

Yeah, sounds like they go over the top. We have these idiots on the build up here. Ned Zelic (who?) and his not so shabby wife. Talk about nepotism. They are talking superlatives as well. One said it was the best opening half of football so far. Rubbish!
Hope you had a great time in Cancun (saw your other post) Would love to get away but unfortunately half my house has been demolished.
Pretty exciting times ahead in the next few months. In fact... I'm just about to take some rubbish to the bins way out the back. Excuse for another inspection. All the deadly critters have migrated elsewhere... I think. Balmy 11 deg at 3am.
Now where did I put the torch....

Re: Rio de Janiero - 2014 Fifa World Cup Thread
Some big challenges going unpunished which surprises me with Webb given how good he usually is. Is the final of the last world cup changing his way's when it comes to internationals?
As for the game; not sure anyone is saying it's unbelievable in terms of quality. In fact none of the pundits have said that. They have just said the pace of the game is exceptional and in truth it is especially when you factor in climate. Continues pressing and everyone (except Fred) moving around constantly. If pace drops think it will suit Chile who are more composed on the ball and have enjoyed better possession when they have slowed it down.
I think Chile will come through this 3-2....aet.

A bit nippy & windy out there. Must be snowing down south.
If Brazil lose this there will be riots for sure. Without wanting that - Vamos Chile!!!

Apparently the Beeb commentators feel it would be a disaster for football should Brazil go out... Seems the ref's have been told the same thing

No idea why Keown, the co-commentator, is being so ridiculously pro-Brazil.
