First topic message reminder :

I can live with diving but when going down on purpose injures a player it's going too far really. You're trying to con the ref and injure someone.

Wish they'd cut the habit of showing crying child supporters. It's bad enough getting your heart broken without having it shown on international tv. Such insensitivity!

Schweinsteiger was immense in that game as was Boateng.

That game highlights why Messi will never surpass Maradona.

Germans deserve it but I still don't think they are immense. Vs tight defence, they struggle to breakdown teams, like vs Algeria. Good team but nothing special. Argies missed di maria on the break tonight, Aguero never fit. Messi just isn't the same player, hamstring is a killer, just ask owen.

Germany were the best team, but the beauty of this tournament is there hasn't been a truly great team. Tension got the better of teams after the last 16 but head and shoulders above the dire 2010 edition.

All teams struggle against well organised tight teams. The '70s Brazil squad squeaked past England, '02 Brazil team scored one past Turkey... it's hardly groundbreaking.

2010 had Spain which elevates it IMO.

Germany the only decent team at this tournament.

Rodriguez was fantastic to watch though, really lit up the tournament.

Answers on a postcard to what di michelis was doing for Germany's winner.

Same vein as Argentina tonight, Robben had 2 chances to finish off that game.

Decent is overly harsh, I tend to agree its been more open because of more mediocrity.

Boateng or Hummels or Schwein or Masch. Think all 4 were brilliant tonight.

Best team won it, great moment for Gotze who had almost been forgotten. It's been emotional gents!

A couple times, but I think as a defender you don't go home upset if Messi does you once or twice. For two defenders of their pace against the front line they faced today I thought they both did very well, but Hummels had to make less dramatic tackles because I think hes just a better, smarter defender than Boateng.

Great goal, good technique. No denying that just as Rodriguez's goal was. Still won't convince me that either was better than Van Persie's though. Controlling a header or volley first time is always harder that controlling it first on your chest.

Play volley football. Is it easier to control the ball first and then play it back than it is to play it back first time.

Anyway, as some people have already said, it's all about opinion.

Thought the final was a good game. Both had chances. Disappointing that we didn't have more goals.

Shame Germany don't get to keep the trophy for winning it three times. A new design, and possibly a worldwide competition to design it, would have been a good initiative for Fifa.

Roll on Russia.

I tell you one thing, Lahm is still head and shoulders above anyone as a full back. Play him in midfield if you want Pep but hes the best full back bar none.

I also lol when I remember Schweiny used to be considered a winger

A couple times, but I think as a defender you don't go home upset if Messi does you once or twice. For two defenders of their pace against the front line they faced today I thought they both did very well, but Hummels had to make less dramatic tackles because I think hes just a better, smarter defender than Boateng.

Allowed 0 shots on target.

Mascherano was awful tonight, should have been sent off and have the ball away over and over - some contrast to his semi final performance.

That Spanish team was not rich of goal... only crawled past Germany in 2008, & 2010, when the team was at the beginning of their cycle, and I'm not convinced their defence is much better... Think Spain's demise has had as much to do with their gameplan being figured out, as it has to do with any decline
