you have to be fair to City, they've been excellent tonight, it's a shame it took them four games to start playing this year, but at least they've got through in the end.
Disappointed with Lisbon here. Need two goals to go through but haven't shown much desire to commit men forwards IMO. Chelsea have been in cruise-control all night.

Monty.
Its luck of the draw if they get through or not.
I would back then against 3 not against the other 3.

I wouldn't back them against anyone except Monaco. Can't defend, you can't count against the top sides in Europe motivated in the latter part of the season missing 5 chances or gifting goals like the last two games.

Yep, begrudgingly give Citeh their dues. If nothing else, they are the definition of plucky. Strange to spend that much money for your club to
just be plucky... but it's won them titles.

I would make City favourites against Monaco and Porto, give them a decent chance vs Dortmund and think they could push Atletico. Next to no chance against Barca and zero chance against Real.
I'd quite like Chelsea to avoid PSG, though think we're a much better team than the one that sneaked past them last year. Apart from that, happy to play anyone.

City will be dangerous for all the group winners if they get their injuries sorted and top players back.
They should be better than they are, for all their battling qualities I think they lack in the mental stakes for some reason.

I disagree. reality is I don't think Fernando and Fernandinho have it at the highest level. They tend to more often than not lose the midfield battle in Europe. Happened in both Munich matches. The home Roma match they basically got sliced as and when Roma pleased until Lampard came on. At PL level, two very good players, but at the upper end of the scale, not particularly awe inspiring, and not awe inspiring in big boy positions.

Although, with Yaya and Kun. And the fact that they really don't go away, they should offer a fight and against the right team, maybe even a win. Not impossible, but I think they have to play at their upper limits and hope some of the elite are a little off to win

They certainly haven't proven anything of the sort in the last four years have they? They've barely proven top 20 even when they had all these players playing. Only one campaign was remotely impressive.mystiroakey wrote:City are one of the best teams in Europe if you add a fit Silva, toure, kompany, aguero and hart.monty junior wrote:I wouldn't back them against anyone except Monaco. great draw for Arsenal, should really beat Monaco fairly comfortably.
Ouch for Chelsea, the one team I wanted to avoid. Still think we'll have too much for them over both legs though...
Man City tough one too, but you do run that risk when you finish second in your group. Hope they put up a better fight than last year, particularly in the home leg.

Besiktas is not a great draw for Liverpool, one of the harder sides, Arsenal struggled to get past them.
Can't see City beating Barcelona at all, expecting it to be similarly comfortable as last year.
Chelsea should beat PSG, who are good but Chelsea are at another level right now you feel.
Arsenal should be fine, Monaco is one of the best teams they could have faced so should expect to get into the Quarter final.

At the minute, the Liverpool ladies second XI would be a tough draw. Only consolation would be that Sturridge might be fit by then.Crimey wrote:Besiktas is not a great draw for Liverpool, one of the harder sides, Arsenal struggled to get past them.

If/when Sturridge returns I'd see how the team performs after 6 games with him before judging Rodgers. Believe Sturridge is the catalyst but fear it's far too late in the season to make up any lost ground in the League and we have to look at success in the various Cup competitions to salvage anything

PSG vs Chelsea - Chelsea to edge it, Luiz to be sent off at some point
Man City vs Barcelona - Yaya suspended still, Barcelona to sneak it at home
Bayer Leverkusen vs Atletico Madrid - Atletico
Juventus vs Dortmund - Will the real Juve step up, probably not, so Dortmund
Schalke vs Real Madrid - Madrid won about 6-1 at Schalke a year ago lol
Shaktar Donetsk vs Bayern Munich - Bayern with ease
Arsenal vs Monaco - Arsenal, now we've taken Rivieire off them
Basel vs Porto - 50/50 for me
Some good ties, but you feel someone average will sneak into a semi here. If Arsenal could get Monaco & then the winner of Porto/Basel it would be unbelievable.

Pleased Arsenal got a decent draw seeing as how they have had it tough in recent years. Chelsea should also get through, on their march to a Champions League crown, while Manchester City have every chance if Aguero, at the time of the contest, is fit and firing.

Ja, for a club which once went without one Englishman in their matchday squads, I'd say Arsenal have had a decent recent history of acquiring English players, and not just the 85th minute appearance variety that Mourinho likes.

Dont underestimate Porto they are a very good team, anybody who faces them will have a very tough draw.
Decent draw, Juve vs BVB and Chelsea vs PSG are the standouts.
Suppose Arsenal will be happy they finished second in the end.

Perfect away performance from Jose & the boys, getting the job done is all that is required. Don't see PSG ever challenging the big boys in Europe, signings haven't progressed them either.
