He can whip up his crowd all he wants, but the finger to the mouth was for the opposition fans.

Re: Ryder Cup predictions.............
Best result re. Stenson/Reed would be if Stenson beats him - something no-one else has one this week. Say what you like about Reed's attitude but he's got a pretty sweet swing and obviously doesn't mind the competition. He might disappear up his own arse in the future, but equally I wouldn't be surprised if he actually does become 'Top Five'.

No problem with Reed doing the "fingers to the lips".
Europe would have have done the same before.

We could be watching the birth of the new Paul Azinger with Reed, he's clearly up for this Ryder Cup lark. He could be a thorn in Europes side for many years to come. Great to see that passion!

Hunter Mahan - specialist subject - hitting the wrong shot at the wrong time.
After 5 minutes of discussion, you ignore the Scottish run up shot in a situation that was tailor made for it, and airmail the green with a Mickelson flop shot.
Deary me, Tom Watson must be tearing his hair out.

Could be worse in the future for US. At least 2 of them play with long anchored putters. They will be banned for next Ryder Cup, right?

Of the 6 captains' picks Westwood scored the most points and he only managed 2 out of 4! Got to question Watson's pairings on Saturday afternoon, particularly with Mickelson's strong performance this afternoon.

...and what of the naysayers who criticised the appointment of McGinley (not a great playing career, no majors etc etc)?? According to the players...who were clearly influential in his appointment...to a man they think he's done a great job. I would agree and so does the final result.

Yeah, absolutely. To contrast that with the berk Faldo (what WAS he on about re. Garcia the other day????) as a captain tells you all you need to know about the relevance of a playing career to the job.JAS wrote:...and what of the naysayers who criticised the appointment of McGinley (not a great playing career, no majors etc etc)?? Absolutely I mean when Garcia got hammered 5-4 by Kim.......It was Faldo's fault....
Rose's comeback from 4 down owed everything to McGinley..............didn't it !!
I'm surprised Walker slapped Westwood...............and Kuchar hammered Bjorn considering Watson was so crap..

Sounds like we've got a bitter loser here chaps. 1 win in 9. That's the difference between knowing what a team is, and not having a clue.

Re: Ryder Cup predictions.............
All winning captains are hailed as "inspirational" by their team members. But in truth, I can only think of one captain (from either side) whose actual selections & tactics made the difference, and that was Azinger in '08 with his brilliant pod system.
Gordon Brand jnr, who played twice under Jacklin, once said a tree could captain a Ryder Cup side.
If you have a good team that plays to its potential, & you get the rub of the green at the right time, you can't really go wrong.

Golf was the winner....
Made a few strange choices Watson....
Walker and rottweiller Zach at 11/12.............Where it doesn't matter.....
Donaldson, Duboissen, Reed can all take a bow for their debuts.....
Find it amusing how you love it on here when poulter is giving it gung ho but you want Reed smacked in the mouth.....
Now you know how it feels..
Rose was immense as usual..................Simpson and Poulter were relieved to draw eachother I think...
You win because you deserve to...No complaints....
Give it to Freddie please..............

Re: Ryder Cup predictions.............
I think McGinley must be given at least some credit for his work with the rookies and how he tried to prepare them and give them a mentor. At the end of the day it's obviously down to the players to deliver, but good preparation by the captain must make that at least a little easier.

My point was it doesn't matter if you've won 50 majors. It won't necessarily make you a good captain. I thought that was obvious but hey, you go off on one for no reason. It's fine. You're hurting. I understand.TRUSSMAN66 wrote:The difference between Olly being a great Captain or a loser................Is Rose's fluke putt on 17 and Furyk lipping out on 16.........

A poor RC overall from an excitement perspective, but that wasn't Europe's fault. I'll still never understand Bradley & Mickelson being left out of Saturday.
High points - The performances of Dubuisson, Stenson, Rose, Walker & Reed................
While this wasn't a thrashing like 2004 & 2006,it nearly was..................probably Bjorn's last RC, hard to see Donaldson make the team again and it's 50 50 whether we'll see Poulter or Westwood in the team again..........

They missed the boat by choosing Watson over David Toms - he'll be a great Captain if the PGA ever returns to its senses.
Freddie never did well in the Ryder Cup, never much cared for it - the PC is much more his style, low pressure and Finchem around to guide him.

Horschel wasn't "in form" when the picks were made - so that's presumably another change you'd suggest?
