Smalling is without doubt the best defender we currently have, the fact he's the only one capable of defending does help.

And why has LVG taken off Utd's best attacking player today

It bothers me somewhat that his outstanding work at Fulham is almost forgotten about.
That Europa League run was special.

RVP over Falcao was a woeful decision, but the bias is evident with the manager. Have to question LVG tactically with the switch in second half, just gave Stoke more encouragement with Januzaj, who is awful as a wing back & a physically weak central core of Herrera & Mata producing nothing & losing every 50/50 ball. Young popping his hamstring added to the issues. Title contenders....no chance.

Penalties, keeping Gerrard in a job now for a few years. Poor from Dyche, picked the same team, trying to make some kind of point about this festive demand not being difficult, now had three injuries inside 40 minutes. Mertesacker is like a snail & Arsenal's defence is still embarrassing, like it was in 2014.

Re: We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
Probably because it wasn't deliberate. 99% of handballs shouldn't be 'handballs' by the rule book. He was a yard away and had a split second to react. Suarez in the 2010 World Cup was deliberate. Henry vs Ireland was deliberate. Smalling's today wasn't.Olly wrote:How is that not a pen
I don't get this 'unnatural position' rubbish either spouted by Gary Neville. If you go to chest or block a ball the natural position of your hands would be in the air. An unnatural position would be if your hand were tucked into your side.
I would prefer the handball rule to be changed to did the opposing side gain an advantage. Perhaps they could look at indirect free kicks for non-deliberate handball.

Embarrassing, woeful, shambolic, amateurish, sunday league.........just a few ways of describing Arsenal's defence & goalkeeper. Going nowhere fast are Arsenal.

Not surprise Arsenal are getting stuffed by Southampton. They were pretty poor against QPR and West Ham. QPR dominated them in the last 15 mins and had Hoillet been any good QPR may have got a result. West Ham were pretty much all over Arsenal for much of the game. The Cazorla penalty changed that game.

Southampton should have really made it three there. That attempt cleared by Debuchy was quite lackadaisical.

That Arsenal backline are combined on about £250k a week. Surely there has to be a way I can earn £5k a week at this sport?

I sense John's optimism for the New Year has evaporated after just under seventeen hours.

Now I know you Liverpool fans are quite sensitive about this stuff, and I will wait till MOTD to see the goals, but seems a bit of a coincidence that Gerrard comes in and you play rubbish - right?

Always a bit difficult playing with ten rather than eleven!
Apart from at set-pieces of course...

Gerrard is rank. He is currently what Mourinho thought Lampard was last season. Difference is, Mourinho was bigger than Lampard at Chelsea... is Rodgers bigger than Gerrard at Liverpool?

Sean Dyche continuing to work wonders. Also doing it the correct way playing some nice football. Not using the Pulis and McCarthy tactics to get results for a limited talented squad.
