Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
Also John Stones for £30 million sounds crazy until you think you could conceivably get 15 years out of him, which is only £2 million a season, obviously not taking into account wages. It's why young centre back prices have started to get larger and larger, clubs are recognising that they could be a real nifty long term investment, because they're less likely to need to be replaced earlier, centre backs tend to get better with age.
It's why it's strange that goalkeeper prices haven't really become inflated in the same way. If you buy a goalkeeper at 22, that's 15 years service, yet they're still the least valuable position. I think a lot comes down to the fact that it's really difficult to value a goalkeeper.

Adrian's appeal unsuccessful; transfer news because it said on our site that if the appeal was unsuccessful then we'd look at getting another keeper in.

Exactly right about Stones. I'd see why someone would go to £40m for him. The English player tax means they will never sell him for a low fee if he fails so there is not a worry of losing money.

I've never thought about it like that, Crimey. That's actually good business sense, providing he's not a complete flop.

Gray isn't their best player, and for £9m they should be able to replace him simply enough

Any championship player being offered 9 million you simply have to accept.
Brentford have done well here though.

Bristol City are just frustrated, no one wants to join them. I know British strikers are over priced but in the last 2 seasons, McCormack and Gray have gone for 20 Mill. Absolute scenes.

The transfer activity of clubs this summer suggests FFP will be dead in the water this time next year

Well, Amalfitano is definitely going. Banned from the training ground by Bilic apparently.

He is quite amusing to watch. With his carry on.
Wouldn't want him at Villa though.

I found it funny, his behavior in that Man City v QPR game, when he got sent off.
Also when he pit that French accent on, that was embarrassing.
If he does go to Forest, hope he bucks up his ideas, but probably not.

Arsenal linked with Cavani again. Next it will be Benzema. Then Cavani again.
We'll end up with some random striker nobody has heard of.

Pretty sure Zlatan has been told he can leave & Edinson has been tactically switched from the wing to the main striker role.
Norwich have bid for Afobe & Liverpool have rejected approaches for Sakho, from Roma & Leverkusen

Will be disappointed but not surprised if Sahko leaves. BR pretty much forcing him out the door by playing the liability ahead of him. It's ok though having 4 squad CB's of Skrtle, Lovren (brutal), Toure (pretty bad) and Ilori (unproven) will surely be enough to achieve the teams objectives this year......

Apparently he's been told they are waiting with open arms to have him back. I'd rather see him in the Prem.

At 33, the slower Italian league is probably a better fit.

Afobe - would be happy with this, but seriously doubt it'll happen, wolves have no reason to sell

Maybe it's because he's been tempted by Chelsea, or perhaps Depay finding his shooting boots has made them realise they don't need him.

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
More likely that Woodward was scratching round over a couple of million, Mourinho and co are panicking after getting their arses handed to them by City, and did what Woodward should have done and wrapped it up by paying the very reasonable £22m fee
Or Utd are getting someone better

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
Maybe it's LVG? Maybe some players don't want to play for him.
If his release clause is £22m and United were haggling, that's pretty poor given Pedro's ability and record.
Losing Otamendi won't help either. Can't see that they have many other targets lined up. Desperation bid for Harry Kane?

Uniteds summer very much in danger of fading into mediocrity. Key targets now being missed

Apparently LVG decided he wasn't the right player and Woodward was haggling over how to pay the money.

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
Ed woodward - manchester united can do things in the transfer market that no other team is capable of
Roughly tranalates to - we can make a transfer saga out of absolutely anything until we either end interest or are beaten to the punch by somebody after messing around over a couple of million
I would hope that they have something up their sleeves because the current squad isnt going to be challenging for anything

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
Liverpool seemed to do something similar the previous to seasons, spend weeks trying to get a player for a bargain fee then get beat to the punch when a team come in, pay full price, and wrap up the deal overnight.
Can empathise with united fans if this is the case, gets very frustrating and ends with someone panicking and signing a Ballotelli!

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
Can't believe it is as simple as my paying a release clause with the way we've thrown money about the last 4 transfer windows.
Would've liked pedro but he wouldn't have solved any problems we have, still need a centre back and forward.

I suspect what's happened is Pedro has spoken to Valdes.

Sounds like paper talk that, mata, herrera, de gea there as a Spanish contingent - pique knows the club well from his stint- sure he'd have spoken to them if he'd concerns after the valdes situation.

again, most likely paper talk, but the whisperings are that both LVG and Woodward agreed that this is not the player they truly wanted, and they want a bigger name signing. Personally I now think we're done for the summer

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
So it took a month of pondering about, flying to Barcelona to do a deal, for then LVG & Woodward to decide 'he wasn't what we wanted'. OK.
As for having something up their sleeve, you must be delusional. The original shortlist of players has been gone through, it's back to the drawing board & you will now inevitably see a late desperational dash for a player right on deadline night, probably for Kane & if that fails, we might see fake United officials in Bilbao again, trying to sign Laporte.

Apparently Florian Thauvin is on Tyneside today to agree a 6year deal which includes a swap for Cabella going the other way.

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
Pointless signing, also Marseille might not come through with signing Cabella permanently, if he fails, so next summer, we could have two French flops on Tyneside, to join all the other flops we've signed from Ligue 1.
