I was under the impression that academy players couldn't be approached by other clubs unless they had been released?

Leat wasn't offered a contract by LI.
Sounds like Umaga was by Tigers though, so not quite sure if there's any element of compensation involved or not.

Guess it depends if Umaga was out of contract coming into this summer.
(Say tigers gave him a 2 year academy deal @ 15)
Either way leaves a bit of a nasty taste in your mouth that at that age money is starting to be a factor if true. (Which from what I gather is true).

Pretty sure he wouldn't have been tied into any contact. Just know that in some sports (football for example) nominal compensation is paid for a player under a certain age poached by another team (even out of contract). A kind of development fee.
I'm guessing it won't be the case here though.

Don't know it is the first time i have heard of a 17 year old being poached as opposed to released and picked up.

Hearing the issues surrounding London Scottish and how they've been left in the lurch by the SRU is it a chance for us to come to the rescue and get a number of our promising players game time this season?
Also having a base in London where we could send a coach to help out (one of the Deacon brothers?) and do some community work. Might improve our image down there and we might be able to talent spot some young talent and fast track them up to the Midlands.

I don't know if that is something we want to Touch TBH.
London scottish are wanting more the funding now as the players had been contracted already.

Fair point we don't want to be offering funds just players. From what I understood the SRU were organising loan deals from the Scottish clubs in order to get fringe players game time. They were also sending some coaches down to help develop the regime at LS as well as give the coaches development chances. We could offer similar to that but if they need money we're best staying out as you say.

Craner has been awarded a testimonial by Tigers for next season despite moving to Brizz. A great gesture by the club to a player whose departure has been dealt with excellently by all sides involved.
Much deserved!

From what I heard on the radio he didn't really mention the club very much. He mentioned the committee an awful lot. I hope the club do back it and look after him, it would be a nice thing to do for someone who never could be accused of lacking commitment or not loving the club (you only had to hear his pre game comments vs Saints etc).

The committee is the club.

Ah OK. I thought the committee would be some players who were organising it for him. I suppose plans were in place before the Bristol deal came up. Good to see the club supporting him.
Any idea when our released list is coming out?

It's not just the academy, there's the development and some queries over what fringe players we'll keep etc. Be interesting to know how much shopping we've left to do or announce.
Agree really nice to see Crane getting a testimonial, he's definitely earn it. I'm sure a lot of the female fans will be feeling ng forward to the ladies night he promised on the radio.

Development is senior Academy just branded differently.

Re: Leicester Tigers Thread 2015/16 A New Beginning Part 1
Am I correct in saying that Aguero, Brugnara and Sio are now the only senior squad players out of contract who haven't been announced as leaving?
Ghiraldini (Toulouse)
Van Vurren (Bath)
Pasquali (Treviso)
Seb De Chaves (LI)
Pearce (Sale)
Crane (Brizz)
Bai (retiring)
JDV (retiring)
Goneva (Falcons)
Benjamin (retired)
Camacho (released)
Loamanu (released)
Morris (released)
Bell (LI)
Plus Tressider moving onto Rotheram from the development squad.
It isn't anything official but Crowson is usually pretty bang on and in his recent preview of our front row resources for next season he lists:
Front Row line-up: Dan Cole, Fraser Balmain, Pat Cilliers, Tom Youngs, Greg Bateman, Harry Thacker, George McGuigan, Marcos Ayerza, Logovi'I Mulipola, Ellis Genge, Michele Rizzo.
As said it's nothing set in stone but he usually knows what's happening and he doesn't list Aguero, Brugnara or Sio. It would make sense for them to be leaving due to Rizzo coming back (Aguero) and lack of game time/Genge/Hills coming through (Brugnara and Sio).

I thought development was branded differently as they pass the age where by they qualify as part of the salary cap? Academy players only counting if they play more than a set number of games.
As we've seen nothing of Sio I suspect he's off.

Nope
Senior Academy/Development is just the name given to those who fall under this:
**Academy Cap: The Academy Cap of £100,000 is for all Academy Players under the age of 24 years old and earning less than £30,000 Salary. Note: A Player's Salary Cap status is irrelevant in relation to dual registration. A Home Grown Academy Player's Salary shall not be counted in the £100,000.
All Junior Academy players (U18) automatically fall into the second point Home Grown academy player.
It is why teams technically can sign 21 and 24 year olds to an senior academy contract (e.g. Glous with Purdy and Meakes, or Us and Sio and how Sio joined into our development squad)
Just most teams have a clear out @ 21 as they will have a good idea on the potential etc.

Beckett isn't a surprise as he's switching positions and needs to go away and work on that. Odogwu is a shame but the other two have failed to break through and probably need to move on for their careers.
