Pretty poor today deserved to go out. Shame the fears of England moving away from attacking strategies materialised. At least i can now enjoy the wc stress free!

Hmmm, Aus went down hill when they replaced him IMO. Same game, different eyes on it!

Congrats to Australia. Better team by a clear distance today. Too good at the breakdown, didn't create that much with ball in hand but took your chances. Just more clinical and efficient than England.
... And the scrum. The ultimate humiliation!

Aus were by far the best team. At times they made it look easy that's how good they were. Congratulations Australia and see you next week.
Commiserations England, I know how it feels. Get a new coaching team and move forward. See you in February.

England can turn this around but we need new direction and leadership from the top down, Aus have shown that it can be done but we need to allow players playing overseas to be allowed to play for their country.

Re: England vs Australia, 3 October
Fantastic stuff from Aus, looking like they could genuinely go all the way. Not a great result, of course, but they are a pleasure to watch. I hope Ireland or Wales manage to go far because it's starting to feel like the NH are years behind the SH sides.
And Notch, as far as I know World Rugby already have their money. It's just the RFU who will suffer.

Re: England vs Australia, 3 October
To top off it he has no genuine back three cover on the bench so end up having to shift our most dangerous player to the wing and ending up with a god damn centre combination of Farrell and Barritt. He is no doubt of the mindset that Ford is a defensive liability but that's a load of BS when he's not a complete tool like Farrell, that one hit by Sexton many months ago seems to have made his mind up.
Then there's the issue of overseas players, Australia had Hooper and Pocock at the breakdown but we decided not to select someone just as good because he plays in France.

Re: England vs Australia, 3 October
AUSTRALIA just too good tonight.
England out of their own world cup.
Well played Australia. the best team on the pitch tonight with out a shadow of a doubt.
England have a lot of work to do before the, dare i say it the 6 nations.
They England need to establish a first xv and stick with it.
Too many changes in the centre partnership.
England need a settled XV/ 23.
Lancaster can be proud of what he as done with the England team since he took over.
But i do think that things need to change for England to go forward.
Once again well played Australia. deffo the better team on the day.

Re: England vs Australia, 3 October
well done oz. beautiful passing work
well. it showed rather quickly that ford should have been our first choice 10 today and last week. i dont know if it would have changed who won, but we are better with him by a long shot.
also as has been said for months and months and months, not having a proper 7 showed us up massively.
big change for the 6 nations then (is oz tour before then? nov?) coahing team gone. Robshaw gone? i feel for him, prob should have been our 6 with a fetching 7. tom youngs gone. offers huge amount around the park, but our scrum has been destroyed time and again.
i wonder if we will see burgess again, even at 6, or if a new coaching team will totally ignore him.

Re: England vs Australia, 3 October
There was always going to be one quality team losing out in this group and its not the 1st time a tier 1 team has gone out in the group stage, this has to be the best team so far to ever miss out on a QF place in any RWC to date.
Small margins on the field can make massive differences in this game, really do feel for the English fans as I still remember only to well the feeling from 2007.
I know its no consolation but we have quite possibly just seen the eventual winners just hit their stride.

Re: England vs Australia, 3 October
the oz spinning out of tackles was interesting. american football tactic i think?? ive seen it a few times in RU before, but they looked like it was a team tactic they practiced. meant they could ride the english tackles and pop out offloads, as well as change their position on the pitch by a metre or so. smart stuff.

I'm so happy not to be feeling 2007 all over again - but I feel for England because I bet that's how they're all feeling right now. They've been getting a lot of stick too, and some of it just isn't on. I'm very concerned about our chances next week versus Australia... Based on tonight we'll struggle to get within 10 points unless we miraculously sort out the scrum.

Why, oh Why was Owen Farrell give the 10 shirt over George Ford?
Ford deffo the better 10, E3ngland p-0lay better when Foprd is 10 rather than Farrell.

Fantastic performance from Australia, well done!! Early points shocked England and the crowd. England never once looked like winning that game. Australia are playing very well and that scrum. Well, humbling England in the scrum must have been demoralising for them.

they just looked really really clever around the pitch. a cople of misslile like passes across field at pin point accuracty, and a fair few rapid changes of direction. the change of direction at pace is something SL said he has wante us to do, so we should ahve had Ford on and gambled on Slade too. No Nowell on the bench was idiocy.

Re: England vs Australia, 3 October
Well played Australia. Pocock and hooper won that match. And Lancaster lost it in his refusal to play a fetcher. Reusing to consider armitage in a pool with pocock hooper warburton and tips? F***ing suicide.
Loving the jersey will get you nowhere against coaches who know how to make the most of the resources available to them. Outmanoeuvred at every turn by gatland and cheika. He has to go. Immediately.
I do not give a sh1t about the foreign player policy if it means we leave potential World Cup winners like armitage on the bench. We could play Australia 10 times with that team and we lose 9 I reckon.
I was at the game. I am disgusted by how outmatched we were

Re: England vs Australia, 3 October
One of England's problems has been the Lancaster still does not know his best team and is still tinkering. From an England perspective Ford should have started against Wales and Oz (glad he didn't mind!) I thought Slade looked fantastic in the warm up games and he hasn't had a look in. Barrett is a good defender but not quick enough at this level and playing Burgess was crazy, he just doesn't know the game well enough.
Finally playing two 6s against two 7s was always going to be an issue, England have plenty of really good 7s, they need to play one!
Really glad that a patched up Wales does not need to beat Oz next week to progress, any more injuries and I may get a call!

Within 10?! Unless we have a gentlemans agreement to just let Aus win and us finish 2nd, if it's a proper competitive game then we're likely to lose by 30 or 40 points. We're decimated by injury, Aus are playing awesome rugby, they've got a scrum that demolishes England, we've got a scrum that is demolished by Fiji! We're doomed!

Wilkinson talks so much sense , he should be involved somehow.

This world cup has shown that the old scrum coaches from when the 'hit' was key are largely obsolete.
Australia could well have the best scrum out there at the moment.

But Ledesma, Aus scrum coach and ex Argie, was from the heyday of 'The Hit'.

Well done Aus they’ve proved me wrong.
But there’s always a silver lining. If Stewie has any class he’ll go immediately and allow England to start the new RWC cycle with a proper coach. Who will it be though? Bad night but interesting times ahead. My only tip to the RFU is check the CV before you hire. Could do worse than the Japan coach. Get your cheque book out boys.

In fact, I bet Ledesma and Rowntree played against each other many times.

It has to be, he's an honest hard working player but that's all the positives you can say about him, he offers nothing to the side in particular and were he not the captain I have serious reservations that he'd be near the team.
I also think this may well be the end of Burgess in an England shirt too, early days but the damage that Lancaster has caused by playing him out of position could mean future coaches find him unselectable.

But he only recently became a scrum coach. He was part of an Argentina scrum that didn't just focus on the hit, but were technically superb. The scrum is now a lot more complicated and the old coaches haven't adapted. Ledesma is new to coaching and can teach technique

That should depend on form and how the coach who I assume will be different sees it.
