Feel sorry for the English. Australia definitely the better team, but can't help feeling the pressure of the occasion has gotten to England. Prior to kickoff, Theres no more pressure a team could have been under. Commentators just said England going out in the group stages will cost the English economy 3 billion pounds. That sort of stuff is mental

The football supporters are off, well done both teams I thought it could turn out to be a hammering in the first half. Another good game next weekend I hope.

I think we are all understating how good Oz are. They are by far the most impressive team so far.
NZ are unconvincing, SA beat (let's be honest) a second choice Scotland team, France have been no more than efficient. Ireland haven't really been tested so they could be a challenger

I've been tipping Australia to win this group, and I do believe they can win the whole thing IYA. If they play like they did when they beat New Zealand in the Rugby Championship they can beat anyone.

Well...it's the end for Lancaster, surely.
Australia certainly been the better team, but they've had a little helping hand along the way - so much for home bias!

I don't know how whether Australian players will be taking a break next season, but an early exit by England guarantees we'll have full strength touring squad in Australia next summer, whoever is in charge.

Re: England vs Australia, 3 October
I don't think its to do with pressure. Australia have simply been better. That's partly due to a more skilled team, but also due to poor selection from England.

Duty281 wrote:Knock-on was the first offence, though, or does that not matter?
Not sure it works that way. Consider a knock on first followed by a spear tackle. They wouldn't just let that slide. Foul play needs to be penalised regardless of the chain of events. Still a harsh yellow for me.

Australia have been really good tonight, well done to them, they will certainly fancy their chances in the knockouts.

Lancaster has well and truly screwed up, going into the tournament we had a threatening back line but in our two biggest games he's gone with the pedestrian Farrell instead of Ford who made that backline threatening. To top it all off he then persists with having Burgess on the bench, you need players who change a game like Slade coming on not a poor mans Brad Barritt. He has well and truly wilted under the pressure and I for one will be glad to see the back of him, absolute shambles from the management.

Ah well. Aussies were just too good.
Can't be bothered laying blame on anyone in particular. But when the scrum doesn't dominate , England just aren't at the races.
Good luck Wales next week...and after.

I actually thought poite was ok. The poite of old would have pinged England off the park in the scrums. In the first half he gave England the benefit of the doubt a fair bit.

Well, that was an enjoyable game to watch (and I genuinely say that without any anti-English bias whatsoever). Played at speed with no lack of skills shown.
The better team overall won but to be fair did get the 50/50's in their favour

Aus won't win anything with Genia at 9, he slows them down so much. Strong team but 9 is a major weakness.

Didn't think it would be that big a win so congrats Aus on a top

England - genuine commiserations. I know Wales stand to gain from this, but I do feel for you. Awful feeling. Wished it was both of us going through

Agreed. I don't get his mindset - he played Ford through the autumn and the Six Nations, and against Fiji, but drops him for the two crucial games?
Then there was not picking Burrell over Burgess at the very beginning.
Terrible.

Re: England vs Australia, 3 October
You know, I love watching this Aussie team and the comeback from the Welsh against all the odds last weekend was such an iconic RWC moment. But despite that its hard not to feel slightly gutted that we're not going to see the kind of atmosphere we had in Twickenham supporting the hosts. Any tournament like this really suffers when the host nation goes out early. It's the heart out of the tournament.
And the World Rugby accountants are also devastated.
