What do you expect, it's the Europa league.
Liverpool last year had to go through Manchester United, Dortmund, Vilarreal and Sevilla!

I would expect, they would have played a team in the top 5 of their league with a decent league record. Not one with more losses than winsHammersmith harrier wrote:Josiah Maiestas wrote:Never seen as lucky a draw as the one united have had. Juve cruise past Monaco en route to a near inevitable meet with Real. Would have liked to seen Monaco tbh, been a breath of a fresh air.
Juve have lost 4 CL finals in a row, last chance for Buffon to complete the set of medals?

I must admit I was Poopie bricks when Atletico scored their second goal. But the goal by Isco just before half time really knocked the stuffing out of them. Juventus here we come!

United starting to sit deep and stifle Ajax, Ajax look short of ideas at the moment.

It's all that's needed in all honesty. Ajax look distinctly average.

1-0 United at half-time.
Fairly dire game, United got their goal and have squeezed the life out of Ajax. Ajax need a touch of inspiration.

Ajax too inexperienced - ridiculous throw in lead to the opening goal.
Hope we don't make a balls of this as it is men against boys - literally.
Should win 3-0 but this season has been a story of losing leads.

2-0 now and that should be that.
The guy Sanchez at the back for Ajax is meant to be highly rated but he can't play at all.

Well done to Mourinho, well done to Manchester United. Mourinho has also been managing the exit of Rooney this season. Still more work to be done, but he has produced silverware that will remain part of Man Utd's history.

That was like men against boys - physically stronger, mentally on a different level. Utd didn't have to reach 2nd gear

Great to have abit of postivey last night after whats been a tough few days. My head is pounding now, but overall it's been a decent first season for mourinho. Would have snatched your hand off for two trophies and cl football at the start of the season. Just need to play bit better football next season

Mourinho bit of a salty character but you're guaranteed silverware with the Portuguese legend. PL season was disappointing but two trophies and a CL berth turned MUFC season around. Was also good to see Mourinho actually celebrating success with his child rather than his usual blasé behaviour

Gotta give Mourinho his due. He went all out from the get-go to win the Europa and win it he did. You can argue about the lack of quality in this years competition but it's still some accomplishment to navigate your way through it. Job done and decent season for Utd.

I'd correct get-go to "when 4th place looked a longer bet" but sure.

Re: The UEFA Champions League and Europa League Thread 2016/17
Very cliche.
He'd have wanted it regardless of league position. Look at his attitude towards the League Cup. Dude loves silverware of any kind.
His team lines ups early on in the competition back this up.
