It's just that with so many other options and "trouble free" destinations from which to choose... the decision NOT choosing to go down to Rio for the Olympics was made that much easier. And again... apparently it wasn't just us... seems most the world stayed away in droves... I assume many of them for the same reasons.super_realist wrote:Why are America so credulous Robo? It seems they will believe anything as long as a news network reports it.
Yes, the rest of the world stayed away, but Europe, Australia are considerably further away than America is, and you guys are "apparently" one of the biggest tourists to Brazil, so you've not got the excuses we have as you already have a better flight infrastructure to get there if we are to believe America are such frequent visitors.
It seems a fair claim that Americans are one of the biggest tourists to Brazil, I'm unsure why you used "" round apparently.

this is 2014s figures, and America was behind Argentina, with 700,000 tourists to Brazil. The Guy is not making it up, so stop doubting his word.

Kwin - If it makes you feel better, here's the full "per capita" pillow to fall back on:

Re: The Olympics
More details here.
http://www.medalspercapita.com/
For it to make sense to compare I’d probably exclude countries with populations below xxx, alternatively make some kind of correlation with the diversity of sports the medals have been won in. Countries like Bahamas (small) and Jamaica (one-trick-pony) are either small nations and/or with a very clear specialty so it’d be unfair to compare these small one-trick-pony’s with the UK or US, who win their medals in a variety of sports. In fact I’m more impressed by the likes of Croatia and Denmark who both have relatively sizeable populations and who have excelled in a variety of sports.

I'm not denying America are or have been big visitors to Brazil, I'm saying they have a poor excuse, based on their credulity for not attending Rio Olympics. Their reasons are as bad as the golfers for not going.

Re: The Olympics
Not at all, I didn't deny anything. I was a bit sceptical about the claim as no one had presented anything to back up the claim, now they have. I accept there is evidence, but I didn't deny anything.

Re: The Olympics
Reports from a London based friend of mine: Rory was very contrite in today’s UK media, and said he had made a mistake not going to the Olympics. (Not sure if he’s sincere or trying to court a new sponsor now that Nike is closing shop.)
Anyway, he was quoted as saying that he didn’t watch the first two days of the men’s golf because he was “at his in-laws’ cabin in Upstate New York and the place has no television or electricity.” I'm guessing a VERY high end place in the Adirondacks, just across the lake from Kwin.

Sr,
I think his lady is from Rochester, isn't she?
Pity I didn't bump into him in LP, might have got him to start posting again.

Re: The Olympics
Shotrock Rory said he was "somewhat proven wrong" when talking about whether or not golf in the olympics would be a success. I haven't seen the interview so can't be sure if he meant he was wrong about whether he should have gone or whether he was wrong about the event in general.
If I had $200m from Nike I don't think my idea of a good holiday would be no electricity.

Rory is full of crap. Maybe he should just start playing good golf again.

I agree with that Mac ... but also understand the appeal of "unplugging" at times!

Must be tough to get motivated though. Think I'd be dead, snorting coke from hookers jubblies. I'm expecting Bolt to do similar shortly....pedro wrote:Rory is full of crap. Maybe he should just start playing good golf again.
