And with the new season starting today, what better time to refresh things and start again. The preamble of pre-season is over: 2016/17 LETS BE AVIN YA

Perhaps he could get a tattoo that says "I used vile, homophobic words that I am now thoroughly ashamed of and deeply regret. Should I ever hold an opinion of that nature again, I give permission for someone to punch me in the face"
Or work closely with a charity...I suppose?!?!?!

Weird that I say he should be punished and it becomes an argument of "they shouldn't ban him." I just think he should be punished. If the best the FA can come up with is a ban, I'd still rather that than nothing.

Re: 5000-1 - The 2016/17 Premier League thread
I agree that those kind of comments should be punished whether celebrity or not, but obviously famous people are more likely to have those comments noticed. Not to mention Chris is completely right when he says it shows the correct message when they are punished for saying those things.
The important thing is we want to move to a place where people know those views are unacceptable and publicly chastising people for expressing them is one such effective way of doing so. Part of the deal of becoming a famous professional footballer is that you may be made an example out of - I have no problem with that system and find it odd that people do.
I agree that a ban from football isn't necessarily a particularly relevant punishment, but punishment doesn't always have to be directly related to the crime.
The fact that those comments were not punished in 2012 is a mistake, punishing him for them now is not and to not punish him because they made 4 years ago would be crazy.
Also saying that words have no effect on "normal" people is genuinely probably the most simple minded thing I've seen somebody write on this site and that's saying something!

Lamela trips Firmino clumsily in the box. Milner puts away the pen to make it 1-0 to Liverpool at White Hart Lane

Not many chances yet, hull defending well in numbers and they've had a few looks on the break.
Rooney has been awful as usual, hull so deep most of Uniteds attackers quiet.

I know it's early days still and Burnley will have more winnable games but they struggled today and i just hope that they can pick up from the loss and get going again.
Saying that it was brilliant from us today, good to see Hazard getting back to his 14-15 self again.

Can't agree on Schweinsteiger. Fellaini at least will stick to the job you give him, Schweinsteiger is done, his knees packed in.

Re: 5000-1 - The 2016/17 Premier League thread
He did a job at the World Cup, he's limited but smarter and better on the ball than Fellaini. Fellaini has never been a holding midfielder due to his lack of discipline in all ways in that role. I'd have Schneiderlin over both. And considering the pattern of this game I'd have Herrera too

I'm fellainis biggest critic but he's done wel today.
Rooney just awful, blunting every attack.
Hope we can pinch a winner but can't see where it's coming from.

Dele Alli may be the second biggest c*nt in the league after Diego Costa. Dirty player who has a very short fuse.

If Liverpool had an Aubameyang they'd destroy some teams with their attack.

To be fair, Sturridge is lethal when fit. And hes fit. Klopp has an idea of how he wants to play, and also seems to not like Sturridge, be it his injuries or his attitude.

Come on Hammers! Square it up and put an end to all this Pep pandering.
You'd think they were the second coming of Brazil 1970. Nial Quinn needs to be removed from City games, pronto.

Agree, not convinced by City, they still have a long way to go. people creaming themselves over a keeper who passes to someone through a small gap, wow, let me get some Kleenex. This is basically WHU B team & they haven't seen them off at all.

We've not changed formations, just always more secure with Bryam and more of a threat in the box when Antonio joins in. Least we move on to 16 games in a row we've scored in in the league

It won't get any better when they do sign Bravo, I find the pandering over Guardiola tedious in the extreme.

Feel a little sorry for West Ham...Two sending offs may have cost them points in two games.

I wont say anything as I get labelled when I do
We were blown away first half, got our tactics wrong anyway but credit to City, they were absolutely bang on it the whole half. Could have been bucketloads behind. Got sturdier second half, made the right changes and caused issues, but never looked like equalising for me. Think the third goal is basically down to tired legs stretching to get the goal to get the point.
Payet, Lanzini, Feghouli and Zaza come in after the break and its a whole different team Hopefully Slav starts to trust Byram too, little rough around the edges but adds some steel and is a smart defender when not holding too much.
