Has there ever been a match called off due to the ground cutting up?

They will try and fix it throughout the match and particularly at half time, by fix I mean pat it down.....but honestly, its shocking.

It also has to be dangerous for the players with the potential to turn or break an ankle with your footing.

Re: Bordeaux Begles v Ulster Rugby
Brodeaux are so incredibly lazy off the ball. Its amazing. They're jogging to rucks. Ulster in second gear too.
This is so far below the tempo of your typical Pro12 game.

I have started a thread where posters may leave their condolences if they wish. This is a huge shock and I'm not really sure what to do to be honest.

Those ulster players look like they have been told about Foley at half time
Re: Bordeaux Begles v Ulster Rugby
What is surreal is that the Ulster players won't find out until they leave the pitch. And now I'm just watching the game and its bizarre, utterly bizarre.

Do you think they were told at half time Notch? They looked like they were when they were walking out after the break

I don't know. If they were I don't know because I am in shock

Players dont look to be as energetic in stadiums like that because of the steps, everyone seems lethargic when they arent running out

Ulster are going to lose this game. I don't know if its because of the news or even whether they know. But I think Marty is right.

Will be bizarre if we don't win this considering how badly Bordeaux are playing, but also bizarre if we do win considering we are barely there in spirit never mind body.

So many wasted opportunities by Bordeaux Begles in the 2H. They could play for another hour and not score a try. Good resilience shown by Ulster but you feel their head is not there...

Penalty try coming now.

Just after hearing the news (here). Poor man. My God, such a young man. Hard to believe, and after all the entertainment we kicked out of his grumpy media persona and all the shenanigans at Munster over the recent years. All gone and all finished in an instant.
Rest in Peace, Anthony.

Penalty try was the right decision... Tackle was early and stopped a clean take of the pass, if he had taken that pass clean it was a certain try.

Re: Bordeaux Begles v Ulster Rugby
Well you can't spend the entire second half defending and not expect to lose really. Will matter at the end of the group not getting the bonus point but right now it just doesn't matter
Re: Bordeaux Begles v Ulster Rugby
Ulster are not in this game mentally. The only explanation is the Foley news.
No team that was thinking would not take the three there.

It's probably us out of Europe now. I'm not sure they should have played the second half if the players knew. I really think if they knew its not fair and if they didn't know its bizarre they switched off so completely and collectively.

We don't know if they knew and I don't see why they wouldn't play. They wouldn't have been close to Foley week in week out like his own team

We still have 5 games we can win. Desperately need some leadership outside Pienaar

Think its harsh to say we are out of Europe, Clermont are beatable at the Michelin and we can pick up points in Exeter. A losing point would have been a big help but by no means a lost cause especially after one game

Re: Bordeaux Begles v Ulster Rugby
If the Ulster players where informed at half time about Foley's passing, would they have had the opportunity to postpone the game. I wouldn't have thought they would, as the game had already started and the cost to fans would have been hard to compensate.
I think it would have been unfair, but the best result would have been for the Ulster team to have play the game of their lives, as a mark of respect, rather than fold.
BUT - I do know words are easy to say...
(as I've said on the Foley thread).. RIP, and my thoughts as are every rugby fan, is with the family and friends.

Re: Bordeaux Begles v Ulster Rugby
If the players were told (and let's face it whatever about the players themselves, their coach Kiss knew Foley - was he in the right mood to get the players into shape for the 2nd half?) - if they knew then it certainly didn't help their concentration levels - but it would have been difficult to justify to networks and crowds etc a calling off of a second half.
It was bound to be a major mental distraction for a least some of the players who Would have known Foley quite well.
Difficult day but I wouldn't be saying 'we're out' yet - it's one game.
