Strong words from Townsend about the Finn Russell situation
http://www.scotsman.com/sport/rugby-union/guinness-pro12/furious-gregor-townsend-blasts-clubs-circling-finn-russell-1-4333834
He also claims that Racing directly spoke to nakarawa both before and after Glasgow's game with them last year, coming to his hotel before the game.
That really is ridiculous and Townsend is right to say that World Rugby needs to go something about these kind of things!

That really is outrageous by Racing. I'm surprised that no penalties were imposed on them for that.
Did anyone see the highlights of the Scarlets/Ulster game? The yellow cards and penalty try in the Scarlets Ulster game were not even laughable they were that bad.

Will have to read that article, seems really rotten. I would like to think Glasgow/Townsend have never employed such tactics themselves.
Racing getting destroyed by Munster. Glasgow gotta get some good points from their remaining two Champions cup fixtures.

Toonie is very understated and diplomatic so for him to go on the record telling other clubs to stop being so unprofessional he must be pretty furious.RDW_Scotland wrote:Strong words from Townsend about the Finn Russell situation

He's right though. If you're interested in a player, you go through the club. The top wendyball leagues have that sort of oversight correctly locked down.

Will be a coach announcement!
Either they've found someone new or they're giving it to Hodge on a permanent basis

I think it will be Hodge. In no way do I think he is the right man for the role, but he's the easy option.

Don't do it Spoons!
Save your cash and use it to go see your local team playing home and away. You'll find the quality of rugby is far superior at your local amateur club!

I'm spending the cash anyway mate buying individual tickets, so may as well bite the bullet. Also you're right about my local club (used to play for them and now go and watch occasionally), but Friday nights are easier to get to games for me.
off topic but interesting stat (I think anyway), Matt Scott has scored the 2nd most tries in the prem this season (8 along with Rokoduguni) just behind Wade. Not bad for him, especially considering Gloucesters form. A

I can't believe it - the Hagia Sophia and I were all set to go to that game, but as my nose is impersonating Victoria Falls and Waitrose had a 'Dine in for £15' deal, we decided to give it a miss. Amazing game by all accounts!funnyExiledScot wrote:GLove39 wrote:Stop whatever your doing & watch this masterclass from Jon Welsh http://sport.bt.com/video/newcastle-prop-attempts-outrageous-chip-and-chase-91364130955486

Aye, although he said he was keen to sign up, so it would have taken a massive c**k up from the SRU to mess that up.....so yeah good news, was probably close to not happening.

Do we think that John Hardie will be off then?
I would imagine so. Both to good to be the number two and he will fancy and deserve a pay day.

If there is still interest in Hardie (I imagine there would be) then yeah I fully suspect he will be off. Would be nice to keep them both, but I doubt it would be feasible.

Surely Jon Welsh has played himself into the Scotland squad with that move. It was his work around the park, not his set play that used to count against him and he seems to have put that to bed. He is surely miles ahead of Moray Low now who never seems to play for Exeter any more.
If Nel stays crocked then he may even end up playing.

Really happy with that, being an ex academy lad have kept one eye on him, and him and Bradbury as a partnership could develop into a really class back row.
(Also Saints would of messed him up if he went there).

While hilarious, lets not forget that this move resulted in the ball being handed over! As a former forward myself, if I was in Jon's place, I'd have used my brain to determine I had a far better chance of dipping the shoulder and going through the small back that was defending that trying to chip over and out pace him for a try!
I'm not saying that it was a guarantee that Jon would have gone through the defender, but surely he'd have at least been able to retain possession!

It's a tough one. Ideally both would stay and continue to push each other. However, with a worrying lack of depth at openside (unless we include Wilson and Barclay in the reckoning), we really need to spread our resources a bit and allow more talent to come through. Matt Smith at Glasgow looks a very promising prospect, but you wouldn't expect him to come into the international consideration for at least two or three years. Watson therefore needs to be maximising his game time at Edinburgh to keep his progression going. If Hardie leaving assists in that, then it's a necessary evil.EWT Spoons wrote:If there is still interest in Hardie (I imagine there would be) then yeah I fully suspect he will be off. Agreed, whilst it was brilliant to see John in full flight, he made the wrong choice there. Really any other choice would probably have been better. Easy to forgive him considering I doubt he's been in that position very often and just panicked

Love it!
Surely Jon Welsh has played himself into the Scotland squad with that move. It was his work around the park, not his set play that used to count against him and he seems to have put that to bed. He is surely miles ahead of Moray Low now who never seems to play for Exeter any more.

The chip and chase was indeed hilarious and almost came on. The line he ran to make the initial break through was a thing of rare beauty though and had me purring!

If Watson and Hardie are seen as Scotland's top two 7's then it would make sense for Hardie to leave. I reckon he'll get a fair amount of interest although is he not quite prone to injury?
Watson and Bradbury aside, there aren't many players that regularly start that I'd be that disappointed about if they left (Anton Bresler aside). Nel is important to Edinburgh but he deserves to be playing at a better club.

I'd not say he's prone to injury in the Rory Lamont category!
He does get injured a bit but that's because he's normally the first man getting into the action so it's purely a numbers thing!

Picked up an injury in the autumn tests, think he's likely to miss the 6 nations as well

Surely Matt Smith is World Class by now??
Agreed on Hardie. I'd like to keep him, but I'd rather we sorted out Nel and Du Preez. Something is up with Du Preez, he's not been his usual self for a while now. He even made Josh Strauss look good.....

Welsh and Toonie apparently don't see eye to eye, hence his departure from the weege.
Jon isn't the new age kind of player that Toonie likes, I think he reminds him too much of the scary, hairy front rowers he played with at Brive. Apparently the front row union used to warm up by head butting each other and then trampling over selected team mates before they went out onto the field! Not a warm up that Toonie would find particularly appealing!
Perhaps Cotter has been told not to select him as his successor has no intention of ever selecting him, even if the alternative is as disastrous as Moray Low. Hopefully the giant tight head (54 inch chest) playing for Dollar in the schools final this year can get a contract and make it into the Scotland squad ahead of Low by this time next season!!!
I guess the only way we would know for sure if this is correct is if Welsh was to find his way into the ranks at Montpellier!

I was half expecting the Warriors to appeal Big Brian's ban, but it seems that won't be the case

Looks like Redpath is out of the running for Edinburgh coach - he's taking up a 'business role' elsewhere

Has anyone seen the story about the young lad ACT Brumbies have just signed? Signed a schoolboy contract (18 years old) 113kg 193cm, normally plays at 8. Born in oz, with Fijian parents but with Samoan and SCOTTISH grandparents...He's very keen to play for oz, but wonder if he could be tempted to follow his distant routes.

Was he in the running? His coaching career hasn't been stellar. Pity, a truly wonderful scrum half at the peak of his powers with fantastic service.

It all depends! If he is tempted to come play for us instead of Oz then all is good. If he plays for us as Oz don't have a place for him then no, we shouldn't take him!
If we become dependent on cast offs from other nations then we'll never beat them!

Apparently Nel & Bresler are due back for the Quins game. Also apparently bresler is disappointed with his form for Edinburgh thus far and has yet to play at his best.

Tommy S and Tim Swinson both sign on again at Scotstoun.
Swinson for 3 years, Tommy for 2.
Good bit of business on both players, who would undoubtably have had offers elsewhere. They must have come up with a fair bit of wedge to sign Tommy up who has got to be one of the hottest wingers in the Northern Hemisphere just now and I guess Tim Swinson has deceided he wants to finnish his career at Glasgow. Why would'nt you?

They kind of has been put out there already, they are probably just dribbling the official announcements out to keep us all in suspense.
There is talk of a South African prop Oli Kemble signing for next season as well. He plays TH for the stormers and was in the same junior springbock side as Dell that won the junior WC. That might explain why Pulifisi is off to France, we certainly need someone to replace him and anchor down the scrum when Zander is away with Scotland.
