The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Cari wrote:Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Munsty - I'm embarrassed by Brits sometimes. I'm not surprised it'd be a culture shock - especially for someone from the Middle East. It's a bit of a shock for Brits when they go over there too!

Nice one stag. Best of luck sir. Do your homework and you'll nail it I'm sure. Make sure you stipulate your need to access 606 v2 in your interview though. It's best to agree these things up front.

Well they do and they don't, it depends who is asking.
Do any of you remember Horizon when scientists could predict at which stage of the menstrual cycle a woman was from the way she dressed and behaved in a night club?

I saw something like that! The experiment they did though was on lapdancers. The one's who were ovulating got more tips apparently.

Hope it goes well for you Stag. The 50% payrise and reduced transport costs will leave you quids (or Euros) in. Just think how much longer you'll be able to stay in bed as well.

Mr Stag, best of luck with that, but I have some bad news. That's not a 30% pay rise, it's 50%!
I've interviewed a fair number of interviewees in the past, what is listed in the 'must haves' is usually a bit of a lie to weed out time wasters. Let them decide if your German is good enough, don't talk yourself down. Go in knowing that it's them that asked you to come in, you didn't beg. They're already interested, you just need to let them know they were right to be.

Guess what? The Magners League is now... the RaboDirect Pro12.
That's the stupidest name I've ever heard for anything. I'm serious. It's just ridiculous.

Its pretty similar to what I'm doing in some regards. It is a German speaking customer service role. Customers send me emails and calls about the products (pharmacuticals and medical devices). I liase with different departments such as marketing and providing this information back to customers.

It only sounds rubbish when it's given its full title, which only TV presenters are going to do. 'The Pro 12' isn't that bad a name.

Munsty, I can't agree like that. Its like the police man/politican in Boston who said its no wonder so many women get indecently attacked due to the way they dress.
Can't agree.

Having said that, I'm surprised that Celtic Rugby let them decide the name of the league rather than just sponsoring it. It's not as though we had the Magners Best Served Over Ice 12.

Apparently 606ers will call it The Nesbitt (after Rab C.)
With women out on the town, it's not the way they dress that gets them into trouble, it's their behaviour. Sometimes, some of them are so drunk they don't know where they are or they're incredibly naive and aren't street-wise at all. That makes it easier for someone to overpower them.

I sympathise with what Munsty's saying. Women who dress up when they go out do so because they want to look attractive. There's no denying it. That's not to justify people sleazing all over them, or worse, but they have a choice over their appearance and attire.

I tell you one thing - this latest fashion of women wearing stupidly high heels must make it difficult for any woman to make a run for it if she wanted to. Some I've seen can barely walk in them!

I think its time we renamed it. The Jeff has really worked and caught on.

Not that we want to sideline common sense; i.e. not a good idea to get incredibly drunk and walk home alone.

And Munsty was talking about men who come from a country that is culturally different, not local men.

When in uni I studied a lot of cases in which the "cultural defense" was successfully used. Apalling and sickening. Glas will be familiar with them I have no doubt. They range from it being ok to carry a knife or sword in some religious to men getting reduced or no prison sentence after beating women because of their culture.

Like I'm saying, it's not an excuse but these are some of the reasons why men act like they do.
Also, when I first started this, I was only talking about leering at women, nothing physical.

No what they do isn't dangerous but its the tip of a dangerous wedge.
There are reasons why people do everything. Some teenager in Moyross robs a shop because his culture has taught him no different. Or a guy attacks people due to being bullied in school etc.

"In the latest Nesbit match rabo cop George Clancy controvertially ..."
When I headed for the railway station after the Amlin final in Cardiff the other week there was a group of girls who were out dressed in some kind of bondage theme. A couple of outfits were skimpy enough to not look out of place on stage in a strip club - think g-string leotard ...
Said girls perhaps could have given more though to which of their features they wanted to display admittedly, they hadn't picked their best ...
Though some guys around me with bigger beer goggles were leering

The Scots are also exempt. The CJA 1988 mainly relates to carrying knives in public places, section 139 being the most important:
(1) Subject to subsections (4) and (5) below, any person who has an article to which this section applies with him in a public place shall be guilty of an offence.
(2) Subject to subsection (3) below, this section applies to any article which has a blade or is sharply pointed except a folding pocketknife.
(3) This section applies to a folding pocketknife if the cutting edge of its blade exceeds 3 inches.
(4) It shall be a defence for a person charged with an offence under this section to prove that he had good reason or lawful authority for having the article with him in a public place.
The phrase "good reason" in subsection 4 is intended to allow for "common sense" possession of knives, so that it is legal to carry a knife if there is a bona fide reason to do so. Subsection 5 gives some specific examples of bona fide reasons: a knife for use at work (e.g. a chef's knife), as part of a national costume (e.g. a sgian dubh for the Scottish national costume), or for religious reasons (e.g. a Sikh Kirpan).

Of course, like you have the right to walk through a bad neighbourhood with your wallet hanging out. Just wouldn't advise it. The blame must still lie with the transgressor and not the victim.
The difference is if you were to park your car in an unwise place and it was stolen, the fact you were in a sense inviting trouble would NOT be used to get the car thief off the hook. In some sexual assault cases, the attire of the victim has been used to deflect blame onto the victim. Which is totally unacceptable.
