The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Cari wrote:Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Yes but if you swear often enough you know what the replacement word is and in this context takes on swear like qualities, you complete bunch of Kumquat. See?

Its true Glas - That which we call a Poopie. By any other name would smell as bad

I'm surprised they didn't pick tomato instead of kumquat given that seems to be the most disliked fruit around here. Although I have some tomato in my salad today.

A question: do you think that the Ospreys will fare better in the Magners and Europe next season now that they've shed a few established international players and are likely to field the young players who played so well during the Six Nations?

In the Magners yes they will IMO. In the HEC maybe not next year but certainly for the future. I think it was a great thing to do.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Did anyone see the on the sports news about the cricketer who broke a window in the change rooms yesterday in a temper? He had to apologise to the people that were sat outside and got glass on them - doh!
Lucky - I hope so. I don't think they'll miss the players they've got rid of so much, and the youngsters will have more opportunity to develop next season. The only other issues are the ones going on off the pitch

Yeah it was captured on Sky TV in that the camera was on the England captain sat in the players area and there was a crashing sound, and the captain shook his head disapprovingly

I agree wuth Glas back there about the Blues. Parks was such a huge wrong move for them after the momentum they had built in the previous two seasons.
On the old 606 a mate of mine wrote an article after another lamentable Scottish performance in the 6N, entitled...
Scotland 'Parked' in neutral.
Same with the Blues.

As a matter of interest, how much do you spend per month on PAYG ? It's possible to get a (free) phone on contract for as little as £5 per month. Spend a bit more and you get a better phone.

Kia ora, mauri ora all,
I see from the papers that the latest astronauts on the ISS are planning to grow and cucumber. So that's something else off both mine and Penfro's wish lists
Hound, I'll text you later on, but on Friday I'm having a few pints with Panama and FallingTP, though you're welcome to join us.

Hound, it's funny how Blues fans' opinions on the signing of Dan Parks changed over the season before he arrived. When it was first announced the consensus was that it was a mistake, but funnily enough, that view changed after he won a few man of the match awards in the 2009/10 Six Nations!

Dan Parks is a poor mans Ronan O’Gara. He plays the same type of game but not as well, to be successful with a player like that you need a good pack, which Scotland have, but the Blues don’t.

I have never been ROG's biggest fan as some of you probably already know. But I would take ROG in a heartbeat over Parks! ROG is to Parks what Carter is to ROG, differant class.
I personally really like what Townsend did with Jackson and Patterson in the last 2 games of the 6N, where they alternat between playing in the fly half position when attacking. It meant that it kept the opposition guessing and took the preassure off the inexperienced Jackson.
Somthing tells me AR view's Jackson as a Scottish Toby Flood, a youngster he has blooded and he thinks will grow into the role. The good news is that with Duncan Weir improving all the time at Glasgow and Laidlaw showing he can play fly half well at club level perhaps....just perhaps we have seen the last of Parks for Scotland.
Although somehow I doubt it!

Key differance is consistancy Mick, ROG has some howlers, no doubt..... truth is most fly halfs do, it's a high pressure position where your mistakes are obvious and you are always under scrutiny.
Parks has Howlers every second game. Last year's 6N is the most solid and consistant display I have ever seen from Parks. A feat surely never to be repeated.

But i would say his signing by the Blues was in part down to his consistant performances in the 6nations last year.
We're both in agreement here by the way Radge!

All he needs to know is I'll never be far away
When my auntie got married, my dad pinned his brother in law up against a wall and told him if he hurt his sister he would him to deal with.
My mate has got a daughter and he told my brother in law that if his son came anywhere near her he'd put him and his son in hospital!
I never had a sister and I used to laugh at all that stuff until I had a daughter.
Men eh? Two steps away from Neanderthals.

I've only had to be protective once towards my sister. Stopped myself from doing anything I'd really regret but had to intervene nonetheless.

I digged my brother in law’s brother for something he said to my sister before. Don’t regret it one bit. My sister is 9 years older though, so I never really got that protective of her, she can look after herself!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I actually think Parks was awesome last season for Scotland.
In terms of a controlling fly half and territorial kicking he is the only fly half in Europe who compares to ROG. When he sits back in the pocket and control territory he is superb, just like ROG.
However unlike ROG he can't do anything else. Both are physically frail and defencively suspect but ROG is a very good passer and is prepared to put his body on the line in a way parks isn't. I do't think Parks is as mentally strong as O'Gara either hence his lack of consistancy.
Parks made a mistake I think moving to cardiff as he simply doesn't have the skill set to play an attacking game.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
In truth Parks only really played well last season for Scotland because of Brown, Barclay and Beattie, they were hands down the best backrow in the whole tourney last year and they laid the platform for Parks to play the territorial game.
If you get in Parks face he get's flustered Paniced and makes mistakes. Wales did it to him with frightening efficiancy at Murrayfield this year, Warbuton and Ryan Jones just smashed him for 80 minutes. It showed up in his decision makeing and concentration.

I agree with that.
Got a call back from that job interview last week. They are offering me a 30% pay increase, it is 1km from my house instead of 24km and want me to start yesterday.
Only concerns I need to address is working hours and working conditions. They say German must be PERFECT. I would be anxious about that.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Staggy - will they give you the chance to get your German up to standard - like a trial/training period? Can you find out about the working hours and conditions? Are they negotiable?

They are sending me more info at noon and will call me back at 3.30pm. They said to me that the next interviews will be in German. If my German is good enough I get the job. I'll have to think about it.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Woohoo, well done Stag. Seems like a no-brainer. They surely tested your German at interview? So they must be satisfied that it is up to scratch. The practice you have had with your current job must have really stood to you, so don't be anxious! If the rest of the package is right - DALE! (go for it)

The hours are important to me though given I start a university degree in Sept. That will be deal clincher. Also I have paid to travel on holidays in September and would rather not lose any money out of that.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Stag, what Puma said. Go for it!. There's no harm in giving your all in the next interview, it's good practice and experience for you. If after that the hours and conditions don't work for you, you can still say no then.

Yes, there is an element of bravado in all this. My dad was serious though. I dread to think what he'd have done if his brother in law had been unfaithful. I am not as bad as that really and was only joking, but I do catch myself thinking "I wouldn't leave my daughter go out dressed like that" sometimes when driving through town on a weekend.

Radge, Duncan Weir looks like he could be a handy player from what I've seen of him - but will he struggle to develop while he's got to compete with Ruaridh Jackson for a starting spot at the Warriors? Or will the competition help both players improve?

The funniest (or most tragic) thing I've seen is women is micro dresses and high heels running through wind, rain and hail holding their hand sized clutch bag to their head as if they thought it would be any sort of protection from the November weather!

Dunno Luckless, I know that Weir will be 10 for the start of the season in the Magners Leag.... sorry the RaboDirect PRO12. Unfortunatly for him the Glasgow side will be utterly decimated in the process with almost the entire team on international duty or injured.

And anyway, I had a similar sort of talk (admittedly she didn't pin me up against the wall) from my Mother in Law before my wedding. I regret it now but when I gave her a bouquet of flowers as part of my speech I said 'don't eat them all at once', well I say regret...

The daftest thing is when girls go out clubbing in the depths of winter wearing next to nothing, but no coat. They must know that clubs have cloakrooms, so why don't they take a coat with them?

To be fair it's not just girls guilty of that. I always see blokes out in Cardiff in the middle of winter wearing just trousers and a tee shirt or short-sleeved shirt. I suppose they think they'll forget to collect it in their pished state? Or can't be bothered carrying it around the bars.

Just an observation but there's a stereo type that a lot of guys from places like Turkey or the Middle East are sleazy guys on a night out.
Well I can tell you something, it's a massive culture shock for them when they come over here as where they are from, women don't dress like that on a night out, so when they see it here, they only can reason it with one thing why they dress like that here.
And the girls don't like the reason.
