The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Cari wrote:Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Afternoon all, busy day in here it seems!
Hughie and Pete - hope the rest of your mornings have been uneventful.
With regards to the Munsty's point about people from say Turkey and the middle east having a bit of a rep over here when it comes to women I can fully understand. When I go on a girls night out we go to clubs like Tiger Tiger etc (which I really don't like but hey once every few months I can deal with), and quite a few of these men (not ALL) don't know how to take no for an ansewr and just pester you until you have to call a bouncer over to deal with them. It's not fun, I absolutely hate it and I don't understand why they do it. What my friends and I are wearing isn't an excuse, we don't wear sl utty outfits like have been mentioned on here. Cultural differences does seem to be a problem though.
And The Nesbitt is the new name then? Think I could get used to that.

Nesbitt ? No thanks
Pro12 or just 'The League' will do for me
Got to admit my 'Stand up for the Magners League' is going to need a serious re-write

I agree that in law it should not be an extenuating circumstance but in real life, it's a reason and girls/women need to be careful and know what they are inviting upon themselves.
You're looking at what SHOULD happen. I'm looking at what IS happening.

I'd also like to point out I was in Manchester for my cousins birthday and my Turkish friend came with me.
Some young fella lifted up my cousins skirt and I went over to him immediately to push him away.
The girls forgot about it all pretty quickly. As my Turkish friend said though that if a middle-eastern person had done that to her, all those girls would have remembered it well.

No I'm looking at whats happening and sayign that I don't think it justifies it at all.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Did I say it justifies it? No. I said it was a reason and girls do have to think about what they're wearing and also how much they drink.

"she asked for it" is no longer (if it ever was) a defence, or even mitigation. Nobody is criticising these girls from a point of view of their morals, rather for their lack of common sense. Munsty is right, certain behaviour increases the chance of attack, that is not a criticism of her or an excuse for him. Most allegations of Cuddle arise between two people who know each other and when both are peed. Personally I would make 'taking advantage' a criminal offence. You sleep with a peed girl and she won't have to prove Cuddle only that her ability to consent to any sexual act was in doubt. Juries won't be asked either to brand young men as rapists. That is one of the reasons why the conviction rate for Cuddle is so low.

You said they can have no complaints about it if it happens.

You could say sweating like a peedo (if I spell it properly the swear filter kicks in) in a creche Glas. Just for controversy like.

And it means you can't use the word cuddle in a normal context.
i.e "My friend is feeling a bit down so the next time i see her I'm going to cuddle her."
Whole new meaning there.

This whole area is a nightmare. I haven't read back but do I presume Glas is using a euphemism because the real term is not permitted?
Research has shown that when the female of the species gets drunk their inhibitions are lowered by a considerable degree. There needs to be a huge education project to tell girls this. Through girl guides I am, in my own small way, trying to do this - we are having an alcohol awareness session at our next training day for leaders in this area. Girls need to learn self-respect. It seems to me that a lot of younger women have no sense of this. I was not surprised, but was appallled, walking around Cardiff after the HC Final at the way some young women were attired (or nearly not as the case might be). Do they not realise that they do not look in the least bit attractive!
Stag mentioned "cultural" defence. Having studied law, he will know that a law is not a law if those whom it affects do not consent to it. There has been an unwritten law in almost every society for centuries that women are guardians of the society's moral code. This is how the victim being blamed for sexual assaults in many instances has arisen - "she was asking for it". Part of the feminist battle was to rid Western society of that presumption by making men take responsibility for their actions.
Unfortunately, having passed the buck to men, many women decided that they too could behave as men traditionally had (I am talking about laddish behaviour here). This made it difficult for everyone to understand boundaries as they had been removed. I have a great deal of sympathy for young men today who are given "come on" signals only to find themselves accused of a serious criminal offence. She may not have been capable of giving consent, but there is also the case that he may not have been able to read / understand the negative signals once they were given.
I am firmly in the "No means No" camp, but we need to make sure that everyone - male and female - understand how to say it and how to hear it.

I sincerely hope that the government doesn't use the results of this poll to form policy. What one thousand people think about a subject can't possibly be taken to represent the views of the whole country.

In New Zealand bovine TB is spread by possums (no badgers there). Culling the *****s really isn't that controversial - there's an estimated 90 million infesting the country. Weirdly, in Australia where they're native, they're endangered. They also have a bad habit of out-competing native birds for food, so a "good possum" in NZ is a dead one. Ditto rabbits, stoats and ferrets.

Major joint announcement to be made tomorrow by the ERC and IRFU.
It's expected to be that Dublin will be hosting the Heineken Cup final in 2013.
