I disagree. I cannot see anyone being stupid enough to take on the job with the Brexit car crash calamity still ahead. Absolutely political suicide taking on that job.

Its all a fecking joke. Much though I despise the concept of Brexit and how it is being handled, it is the shear fecking stupidity and mendacity of our government that drives me insane. Stupidity, mendacity and a power grab, with the majority of the meek little MP's of either side either buying into the crap or just staying quiet and taking their salary, while letting the executive take full and unhindered control.
When this government talked about taking back sovereignty, they weren't joking. It is just that they were not telling us the full picture of who they were taking sovereignty back from. (That's us by the way - because apparently it would not be democratic to let us have a say)
If there was one thing that highlights the current situation more than anything else it is that somehow parliament found 6 hours to talk about upskirting, only to have the bill fillibusted by the far right old fogey brigade, and yet the allowable time to discuss a bill that will involve the biggest changes to our country for a lifetime was measured in minutes.

Well I am ambivalent to the whole Brexit thing but it has shown up Westminster and it's attitude to this union of equals for what it is - a sham.

Just showing the moronic state of the Tory Party.
Getting rid of the European Arrest Warrant is a key component of leaving the EU. We don't want more Andrew Symeou's.

David Davis was nailed on for Next Tory Leader at one time and then Cameron started making a name for himself.

Oh it is there I am not denying that. What I am saying is that those who fancy the job will wait until the Brexit bus has crashed. By that I mean that Brexit deals have been signed as whatever the deal there are many who will not get what they want from it. Why would anyone move now to take the job and the headaches that go with it as they will then become the marked man once Brexit deals are signed.

Exactly. Thats why Boris hasnt launched a leadership challenge yet, despite undermining and deriding May every chance he gets. May is just the fall guy here. When it all goes tits up Boris, Gove, Davis et all will just finger point and blame her. If she had a shred of self-awareness she'd realise this and step down.

After spending only 4 hours negotiating with Barnier, Davis gets to walk away and leave the rest of us with his mess. Infuriating isnt the word.

Not sure that's the case. There were a healthy number of contenders in the 2016 race, and I'm sure that at least a few would step up to fill out another contest.

It is a bit late for that, although they are all going great guns blaming the 5th column (now known as 'Remainers') for everything going wrong.
With all this I happened to notice that Steve Baker did more or less the same degree as me and was 2 years behind me at Southampton University, so I may have known the little sheet.

She has played a blinder....
Saw that Boris and his mates have no Bollox and know she will win a vote of no confidence.
She will rightfully think fear of Corbyn will steady the ship when it comes to voting on the deal...When she threatens Govt falls if it is not put through..
Only problem is the EU...Whether they accept or not....They will accept I imagine with one or two concessions..
May will still be here in 2020......

'Gammons'.
A term now used by dull non-thinkers, who are blissfully unaware of a) their own stupidity and b) the original origin of the phrase.

Oh, I don't know. She's got rid of the two of them now, with an unwritten dare to precipitate a leadership contest that'll take, what, three months plus? Trussed up nicely. If they call it and precipitate, or are involved in, such a contest, they'll get both barrels from all and sundry. I suspect they know that too.Duty281 wrote:Luke wrote:Theresa's probably having a party.

I would type 'Knuckle dragging, mouth breathing, badger baiting, bigoted bum Frak homophobe who reads the daily mail, praises Rees-Mogg and still thinks Brexit is a good idea' but Gammon is a bit easier.

Perhaps some relief as well.
That instead of all this internal arguing, and complaining about what not to do with zero alternative ideas. We actually might get round to some negotiations with a solid base. Weather it works or not we are possibly in a better position now.
.
As for Boris, I'm not actually sure that there is that much support for him. As a figure head yes, but as someone to rely on and give you idea's, any morals and as a leader to get you through the tough times. I'm not so sure.
But your right about the leadership contest. If they do it now they're signing there own death warrants. However I do expect one as soon as Brexit is signed off, weather Boris is one of those challenging then is an interesting idea.
And to be fair to May, see pretty much resurrected his career, after his huff with Grove. She kept him the limelight and kept him despite his gaffes.

Apparently Dickens used the term 'Gammon' to describe a man based on his pink complexion. I think it is rather apt, really.

Re: Brexit
Apparently the leader of the 1822 club (or whatever they're called), has either the 48 votes to trigger a vote of no confidence. Or is very close to. So there actually could be a leadership contest.
I can slightly understand David Davis resigning if he doesn't agree with May's final plan. Which he would be expected to deliver.
But Boris had no need to resign, and this is just him grand standing. And it's not like we're in the middle of the most important negotiations that will shape this countries future. Any support he may have had, I think he's badly misjudged his own popularity and the timing.

She hasn't 'got rid' of them, though. They've abandoned her. Leaving her without key support.
A leadership contest could take 3 months, but so what? It'll be over the summer recess period.

It's an insult directed at white, middle-aged, middle-class individuals.
Ironically, it is often used by people who fit the first two of those requirements.

I can’t believe someone thinks they can criticise someone else by calling them a “non-thinker.” You’re a real non-smart.
And etymology will tell you that the origin of a phrase does not forever establish its meaning.

But 'gammon' is a non-thinking insult, like 'virtue signaller' or 'snowflake'. No thought, no substance, just repeating the latest buzz phrase to fit in. Like the endless regurgitation of jokes about Paul Nuttall's embellished C.V. or Diane Abbott's numeracy skills.
All tedious stuff.

And I am not quite sure how 'middle class' relates to gammon, unless you are using it as a way of just defining a set of people to abuse.
If you are that concerned over class I always thought that middle class, or at least those aspiring to it, would tend to have engaged with their education in a way which would make them less likely to display gammon like tendencies.
