First topic message reminder :
Kwini
It amazes me that a professional footballer can end up one footed. Just practice with your weak foot every day.
I remember spending a summer playing with only my left foot in the garden. Came back next season two footed.

I don't mind that they are protesting, what I mind is the hypocrisy of their arguments and the lack of evidence in their claims.
If they were consistent in their arguments, and actually lived the values that they demand we do, then I would be fine, but they don't.
For example they bemoan air travel despite it only contributing 2% of CO2, yet I've not heard them once mention the carbon footprint of data which is equal to air travel. Yet I bet they never give that a thought when they're downloading Mumford and Sons or whatever awful word music these waste of spaces listen to.
Surely that is fair enough as a reason to dislike them?

Hey, I am not remotely fussed by them. I find things like that very hard to get riled up or dislike. I find it very strange and a weird choice to take. But im pretty relaxed about a lot of things, and you obviously are not. Each to their own.

When their falsehoods get in the way of you doing your job, going about your daily business you might feel differently if for example they are flying drones at an airport when you are trying to fly somewhere.
Oddly, I'm far more ambivalent nt to this whole Breixt thing, really don't care very much anymore.

The biggest political issue this country has faced for many years. Likely to have severe negative issues throughout the country, and could lead to further troubles in ireland and the break up of the uk.
But, mr realist, is sick of it, and doesn't Care, so can we quietly turn it down. So he can repeat his rants on environmentalists, religion, and football for the millionth time...

Got to be honest, I’m sick of it, I’m sick of the media hype, I’m sick of the lies, I’m sick of the closed minds with entrenched views and I’m most especially sick of how the differing sides of the debate are being narrated as leave = patriotic, decisive, strong and remain = weak, indecisive, lefty snowflake, traitors. What utter tripe!!

I haven't heard too much of the "patriotic, decisive, strong" description for leavers. I've heard "stupid, working class morons, sun reading White Van man" etc for the remainers. Mac being chief protagonist.

That’s kind of what I mean too, the puerile name calling that does not in any way help advance the debate. There are coherent arguments on both sides but they are being drowned out by baying mobs seeing who can shout loudest/insult most cuttingly.
Quite frankly I think the next step for supposedly advanced democracies is a “suitability to vote” test e.g. there should be a basic questionnaire requiring a pass mark to be issued with a ballot paper.

Indeed, we have one for driving, why not parenting & voting...all of which require a degree of responsibility on the latter 2 that responsibility in many cases is currently somewhat lacking!!

Mayhem in the Stade de France yesterday for the Euro qualifyer between France and Albania, as they play the Andorra anthem, the Albanians refused to play until their National Anthem is played. The stadium announcer then apologies to Armenia.

Never really understood why they ever bother with national anthems. 99% are utter garbage especially those of the UK teams.
The only ones I've heard that are not completely awful are the German, French and Italian ones.
The best thing about anthems though is when untermenschen fans get upset about players not singing during them, as if that will somehow make them better if they had to.
I wouldn't sing during the Scottish anthem if I was a player as it's probably the worst in the world, I'd be tempted to turn my back or just leave.

If her and her husband are going to be the unofficial spokespeople for environmental madness she can't tell people that we should take fewer flights to reduce our carbon footprint and then take 5 flights in the last 5 weeks, but that is the level of lunacy and hypocrisy of these doom mongering idiots. Do as I say, not as I do. NIMBY's for the environment.
I'm sure Mac will find some hilarious way to defend her.

How about not living any of what they are preaching? Typical environment hypocrite. They've got bigger carbon footprints than probably all of us put together on this forum, yet they like to tell us how we should live our lives?
If you are telling people not to take flights, probably best to significantly cut down your air travel isn't it and not take frivolous jaunts on private jets and not fly to New York for a tennis match.

Yes. Its disgusting. These people who have concerns for the environment should all live on the land, in tents and away from the trappings of modern society, like getting on a plane to a place it was already going to see a friend. Disgraceful.

I’d say it’s a sense of pride if nothing else. Playing the national anthem and hearing the fans sing it with pride, proud to be where they are from. Being a big rugby fan, I love watching players and fans sing the anthems. Gets players and fans up for the match.
You say your not proud to be Scottish, that’s doesn’t mean others are not proud to be Scottish or what ever country they are from, and enjoy singing their anthems loud and proud. Why not.

I'm not saying that at all, but if you are going to be a self styled campaigner for less of a carbon footprint, don't you think you should possibly practice what you preach and set an example? If they can't do that, they should stop pretending they care about the environment when it's abundantly clear they don't, and some PR company has suggested they try to pretend they are.
Yes, the plane was already going there, but if they weren't on the plane, it wouldn't be THEIR personal carbon footprint, and then they wouldn't appear such hypocrites would they?
Personally, I don't care much about aviation pollution as it only accounts for 2% of carbon emissions, but then again, I'm not the one saying we shouldn't be flying.

They only appear as hypocrites who want to attack them, such as your good self. I accept they have concerns about the environment and have expressed these. But they also live in a modern world, and a part of the royal family. You can't expect them to live in a tent and get everywhere on a bike.
Calm down sweetie, and don't let it upset you. I know you hate people who have expressed concerns about the environment. Don't let it bother you, and take some deep breaths occasionally.

Issue with most anthems are they were written about 200 years ago. Hardly going to be a banging track.

How are they not hypocrites? They tell us we should all fly less, yet they're on a plane every week. It's like Shane Lowry or Diane Abbot telling me that I should go on a diet.
They have no place telling anyone how they should live their life when THEY are far bigger contributors to climate change than any of us flying a few times a year. Being in the Royal Family has NOTHING to do with it. They didn't NEED to go to Elton John's, or the US Open if they are actually serious about the environment. If they genuinely were serious, they wouldn't be flying as much as they are.
I'm fine if people want to have concerns about the environment, but if they are going to moan about climate change on one hand, and on the other they do nothing whilst telling us that we should reduce ours when they can't be bothered to reduce theirs then they can eff off.
Where did I say I expect them to live in a tent? They are telling us to FLY LESS, so therefore I EXPECT THEM TO FLY LESS if we are to believe they are serious about it and not just doing it for PR. Is it really so hard for you to understand what the word hypocrisy actually means?

Maybe they don’t have the same opinion as you, and don’t think they are awful anthems.
That they want to sing them with pride.
Agree with you, some anthems are not great, but maybe that shouldn’t/doesn’t stop people from singing them.
As I said, they are proud to be from whatever country they are from, so will sing their anthem at sporting events.

It's still a terrible argument. It's like saying you'll only have 5 chocolate eclairs instead of 10. It signifies clearly you don't care about the things you are preaching.

Flower of Scotland is only about 50 years old, so what excuse did the writer have for such a backward, insular, bitter, small man syndrome dirge?
Pretty much the only time you ever hear the word "dirge" is in association with national anthems.

Re anthems. They're not musical competitions. They're to represent 'Country'. I hate GStQ as the British anthem from a musical perspective and the lyrics are cringeworthy on the face of it. However, it's the British national anthem, so if I sing it I'm thinking of it representing Britain. That's it.

Didn't they play the South Korean national anthem for North Korea in Scotland for the 2012 Olympics? For that slidy stones over the ice with frantic brushing event? The North Koreans had the right hump if I remember correctly. Two giggling wee Jimmys got a stern talking to that evening I would imagine.
Actually just checked, South Korean flag beside the North Korean players in intro... punishable by death!

BTB - I can't imagine North Korea had a women's Curling Team. I'll have to look into that. (South Korea did very well last Olympics.)

I'd love it if Ecuador were playing football and they put on 'Ecuador' by Sash....... "Ecuador!"
