QF2 - Match Thread - New Zealand v Ireland - 19/10/19 - K/O 11:15 BST
First topic message reminder :
Thought I'd get these made nice and early for a few reasons - but one being that we're already now looking ahead to the QFs with several teams having finished their group stage, so it's all heating up for the proper knockout stuff...barring any more disruption.
NZ
Team: B Barrett; Reece, Goodhue, Lienert-Brown, Bridge; Mo'unga, Smith; Moody, Taylor, Laulala, Retallick, Whitelock; Savea, Cane, Reid.
Replacements: Coles, Tuungafasi, Ta'avao, S Barrett, Todd, Perenara, Williams, J Barrett.
Ireland
Team: Kearney; Earls, Ringrose, Henshaw, Stockdale; Sexton, Murray; Healy, Best, Furlong, Henderson, James Ryan, O'Mahony; Van der Flier, Stander.
Replacements: Scannell, Kilcoyne, Porter, Beirne, Ruddock, McGrath, Carbery, Larmour.
Venue: Tokyo
Referee: Nigel Owens
AR1: Pascal Gauzere
AR2: Angus Gardiner
TMO: Graham Hughes

Well the 'stop making errors' half time team talked really sunk in!

A French referee would have issued 3 yellow cards to Ireland. Ireland are just lucky Owens is a good referee.Collapse2005 wrote:ebop wrote:Guns, are you worried about Ireland’s poor discipline?

Cant put any blame on Owens, if anything he has been lenient on Ireland. Ireland simply do not have the ability to adjust to in-game situations. Out-thought, out-coached and out-played.

Can’t decide wether All Blacks have turned up in this RWC or Ireland haven’t.

1 week ago, my hope was that Ireland got within 20 of the All Blacks. As the game approached I started to believe. Now, I just don't want Ireland to be nilled but it looks very much on the cards and a big big loss looms.

Bit of both.
Ireland not at the races and NZ have clicked into a new gear.
NZ vs SA final I think
Anyone know if anyone has been nilled in the knock out stages of the WC? NZ don’t look like they have any intention of letting Ireland in

Bit of both. Ireland have done nothing this World Cup, aside from beating a poor Scotland side. Hugely disappointing from them. Once again, their peak has fallen outside a WC year. I had hoped they had at least one decent performance in them this WC, but that appears to be beyond them.
29-0.

Owens could do with showing Ireland mercy and blow his whistle early and finish the game.

Just checked, no team has ever been nilled in the ko stages. Couple of ‘3s’ in 1987, but nothing lower.

Maybe losing Bundee O’kee hurt Ireland because no one from Ireland seems to be able to cart it up effectively

That haircut is almost as bad as Ireland. Mew Zealand maybe have yet to face a genuinely good opponent in this cup but they look every bit favourites to me.

It’s been scientifically proven that it makes him run faster
Proven by who wasn’t divulged by Goodhue, but I’m sure the science is sound!

I wanted McGrath to start ahead of Murray as I felt that his quicker distribution would benefit Ireland more against the AB's.
Murray has really annoyed me today, his kicking has been poor, his distribution slow but his continuous nagging of Owens for a penalty at every breakdown has been shocking. That's soccer player crap.

Rory Best gets a great ovation from the Ireland fans.
Unfortunately its the only thing they have had to cheer and he will not remember today with any fondness
He has been a great servant to Ireland though and it should not be forgotten in amongst this debacle

Christ, Ireland miss touch three times from a penalty kick.
Unforgivable against any team, let alone the All Blacks.

Sad to see how we've choked. I was worried at the anthems the Irish lads looked like frightened rabbits. NZ obviously a great side but we have made them look a lot better than they are.
