India v England Test Series Tipping Competition
First topic message reminder :
2021 India v England Tipping Competition Rules:
1.
Pick 2 (two) batsmen and 2 (two) bowlers from both India and England whom you think will score the most runs and take the most wickets.
You get both batting and bowling points per innings so a bowler who scores runs has both batting and bowling scores added together.
e.g.
Kohli, Pujara, Ashwin, Bumrah
Burns, Root, Broad, Bess
2.
Pick 1 (one) fielder from each team; excluding wicket keepers for most catches in the Series.
It can be a bowler (for c&b) if you want.
e.g.
Gill, Stokes
3.
Select which wicket keeper will take the greatest number of catches, stumpings and run outs combined for each Test.
If a wicket keeper is injured then the replacement keeper's figures shall be used.
e.g.
Pant or Buttler... or "the same" amount of dismissals.
4.
Predict the Toss:
a) Who wins the toss?
e.g.
England
b) Winning captain's decision - bat or field?
e.g.
Bat
5.
a) Predict the 1st Test result.
e.g.
India
Selections must be posted a minimum one (1) hour before the commencement of each Test. No PM reminders shall be sent.
Scoring:
1.
1 point for every run scored by your nominated batsmen. Add together for each Test.
Bonus 20 points for 100 runs.
extra 25 points for 150 runs.
extra 40 points for 200 runs.
extra 50 points for 250 runs.
extra 60 bonus points for 300+ runs.
Note: the batting & bowling score bonuses accumulate so;
Batting:
100 runs = 120 points. A player scores 127 + 20 = 147 points.
150 runs = 195 points. A player scores 176 + 20 + 25 = 221 points.
200 runs = 285 points. A player scores 243 + 20 + 25 + 40 = 328 points.
250 runs = 385 points. A player scores 282 + 20 + 25 + 40 + 50 = 417 points
300+ runs = 445 points. A player scores 309 + 20 + 25 + 40 + 50 + 60 = 504 points.
Bowling:
20 points per wicket with a bonus 50 points for a 5-fer.
An extra 35 points for 6-fer, 40 for 7-fer, 45 for 8-fer, 50 for 9-fer.
An extra 100 bonus points for a 10-fer.
5 wickets = 100 + 50 = 150 points
6 wickets = 120 + 50 + 35 = 205 points.
7 wickets = 140 + 50 + 35 + 40 = 265 points
8 wickets = 160 + 50 + 35 + 40 + 45 = 330 points
9 wickets = 180 + 50 + 35 + 40 + 45 + 50 = 400 points
10 wickets = 200 + 50 + 35 + 40 + 45 + 50 + 100 = 520 points
Caught and bowled = 20 points for the wicket + 25 bonus points for the catch = 45 points.
2.
Fielder catches: Your nominated fieldsmen earn you 25 points per catch and 25 points for a run out.
3.
Wicket keepers: 50 points for correct selection. e,g. - Pant or Buttler.
Or if you think they will take the same number of total dismissals per innings - then nominate "the same" = 50 points.
If they take the same number of catches and stumpings (combined) and you've picked either one of the keepers - then 25 points only.
4.
a) Correctly predict who wins the toss = 15 points
b) Correctly predict what the winning Captain decides to do = 15 points - only for those with part a) above correct; no points if your a) was incorrect.
5.
a) Correctly predict the winning team for each Test = 75 points.
b) If you guess all 4 Test Match outcomes correctly then there is a further 125 point bonus = 300 + 125 = 425 points.
Note: Correctly predict a "Draw" = 75 points
If one (or more) of your selected players gets injured during a match or is dropped from the Test side after a match, then you’ll have the opportunity to select replacement players – either as it happens - for the injured player or before the next Test commences (for a player who gets dropped). Doesn’t have to be the actual substitute player – it can be somebody else already in the team. However, you don’t receive any of their previous points – you must start accumulating points from scratch with them.

Not sure I even believe it myself but we'll give it a go anyway!
Thanks again, Pee Jay.
Go for it.. I mean Mo. You never know. Might have picked him myself but I went for the former Taunton Sainsbury's trolley attendant instead.
Anyway... you can always change things right up until about half an hour before the toss and of course; after the toss, if someone you picked isn't there.

Going to pick Mo just because the amount I've ranted about his selection means he's gonna win the game singlehandedly. Hedging my bets in one sense.

Conflicted about this. Rotation , pressures of leading : go with the head or take a punt...
Ah well:
Root Stokes Broad Leach
Pujara Kohli Ashwin Axar (Kuldeep first sub)
Stokes Rahane
Foakes
India , bat.
India win

Re: India v England Test Series Tipping Competition
Guildford and JD...
Bumrah hasn't been selected. Who do you want in his stead?
In the meantime (before the India lower order get to bat - and bowl) I've got you all down for Siraj.
Dolphin - haven't received your picks. You've missed the toss.
Wake up and post asap. Pujara OK (as you both had before); but not Rohit and Pujara... who just got out.
Until then I have you down as close as possible to your selections for the 1st Test
Dolphin - Axar for Sundar; Ali and Broad for Bess and Archer.
Thanks everyone else.

I'll take Ishant as I was considering him ahead of Bumrah anyway given how well he bowled in T1.Pal Joey wrote:Goose, Guildford, James, JD and KC...

I would love to add Kuldeep given the Bunsen but it would be pretty cheeky given I didn't consider the second spinner prior to the first ball being bowled!

Indeed Olly... I think they call that the trickle up effect.
This whole thing kind of reminds me of a fox hunt.
KP_fan is the fox and Goose is the lead hound (with that awful howling sound)... if that makes sense.
Then another group of 5 hounds (including you) with Flipper slipping around on the chopped up ground at the rear of the main chasing pack... desperate to keep in touch.
The rest of us are still in it but looking a little confused. We don't know whether to return to our owners... or chase the Land Rovers!

Cursing my indecision on Axar vs Kuldeep and not wanting to have picked all the all rounders, plus Stokes shelled a catch and stung me by not bowling. Still a corking test thanks to Rohit and Ashwin , plus the punt on Mo.

I'm similar with Rohit. I had a urge on Friday to go for him over Pujara, but talked myself out of it because of his form and that I would have kicked myself when Pujara scored a stack of runs.
As it is, I'm kicking myself anyway!!!

Afro - don't expect much sympathy from this mug who picked Broad (rather than Mo) and Kuldeep (rather than Axar) and so far has 3 points from the two of them!

GB, I gave Pee Jay a lovely little summary via PM of why Broady wouldn't be a good pick for this test. Does that make you feel any better?
Glad I took a wild punt on Mo even though I didn't believe he would do anything worthwhile myself!

I too picked Broad and was based on getting over excited about Andersons success when in reality on the subcontinent is there is a huge gulf between them. 31 at 30 plays 10 at 60, not sure why I didn't bother checking that before the match.
Pujara over Rohit seems like the percentage play to me, one has a higher ceiling but the other consistently contributes.

Follow my lead, hedged my bets after spending two days trash talking Mo by picking him.

Re: India v England Test Series Tipping Competition
Well I am astonished to find myself still hanging on to third place despite having erred by selecting Broad instead of one of goose's tins of custard for this match. Didn't really expect him to be used only slightly more than Root and Lawrence , I must confess - or to be the main victim of dropsy among the better catchers...c'est la vie
Still can hope for runs from Root and Stokes , I guess. And two more games so perhaps we can't crown KP_fan just yet ...
Keep up the good work , PJ

I must have read that underlined bit as "would".
I was obviously so distressed and distracted about you picking Mo... that I glossed over the important message there and picked Broad.
Guildford, I too have Kuldeep (rather than Axar) and my two Indian batsmen (Gill and Kohli) scored big fat zeros in their first innings.
The only consolation (for me) is that up until Root moved onto 3 just now (3rd ball of day 4) I was exactly equal on points with you.
I put you ahead of me on the points table because:
i) you were such a gentleman when discussing the state of the pitch and quality of umpiring yesterday, and
ii) you scored more points than me on Day 3, and
iii) "G" comes before "P".

Notes:
Congratulations to KP_Fan who rocketed up the charts during this 2nd Test with some very clever and astute selections. He also scored the most points again on Day 4. Very well done!
Goose is only 164 points behind KP_F, with Alfie only 17 points behind the lead chasing hound... Gooseberry.
A special mention for Tino, who was so worried about his performance after the 1st Test. He's now in 5th place.
Soul Requiem continues his steady rise up the rankings - he's now up to 12th position.
My Special Team Scores after the 2nd Test are as follows: (using the 'special' formula)
England:
1st Test: 1429 - average player score 129.9
2nd Test: 922 - average player score 83.8
Total Score: 2351 - average player score 213.7

1st Test: 1039 - average player score 94.5
2nd Test: 1330 - average player score 120.9
Total Score: 2369 - average player score 215.4
Quite interesting how close it is after T2 with 2252 points scored in the match. More points were scored in T1 (2468) of course.

367 Root [59]

258 Pant [126]
234 Ali [234] ... Sorry Alfie and Duty! Can numbers lie?

220 Kohli [137]
Followed by: Stokes (215), Axar (177), Pujara (166), Rahane (153) and Ishant (141).
Thanks very much everyone! Great fun as always.
