Tino, as a Cheshire lad, did you ever read the Alan Garner books?
Was recommending them to a southern colleague today.
Morning riCK.
I did read a couple many, many years ago. I enjoyed them actually.
I live a few miles East of Alan Garner country. Alderley Edge is WAG central these days, not much magic left but you do, genuinely, see car (or possibly footballer) spotters hanging around on street corners
I'll add to this. Alderley Edge itself is a big rock in the middle of the Cheshire planes. It is full of minerals. I am not sure if they still do but they used to do tours of the copper mines underneath it which we did once. Very different way of spending an evening

Salt mines were always the go to for an primary schools in Cheshire, that and working water wheel mills for some reason.

Yeah me too, my colleague was asking for recommendations for fantasy novels for a pre teen, and those immediately sprang to mind.

On a similar topic, if you're ever near Krakow (lovely city) then get yourself to the salt mines nearby. It is about 20 minutes by car from memory. Absolutely amazing place. Basically this enormous salt mine with huge chambers carved out of it and a full on chapel down there carved out of the salt. It really has to be seen to be believed.

I also visited Auschwitz-Birkenau the day after the salt mines.
The car that I'd ordered to collect me and my arl man from Auschwitz never turned up. I was furious, Galted. Those poor souls that perished there are lucky they never suffered the inconvenience of being stranded without transport in a foreign country.

l*l out loud.
None were running. Eichmann gets a lot of stick, but no one can say the trains from Auschwitz didn't run on time during his stewardship.

Luckily I didn't take up my role as Frank as I was too distracted with the effort of not having a w*nk during Olivia Rodrigo's Glastonbury performance.

Never watch Glastonbury and had no idea who Olivia Rodrigo is but a quick Googling has ensured that my interest in w*nking has been renewed.

You're welcome, champ. It really is a fine thing you've got going on there. Full of admiration for you.
Not many amusing anecdotes from me I'm afraid. Business is going well, albeit from the despair of the last couple of years, but amusing anecdotes are hard to find. I'm off out delivering a couple of dresses in an hour or so actually. One in Hemel Hempstead then back round the M25 to St Albans. I've become quite the connoisseur of motorway service stations recently. We used to have a kid that did the deliveries for us but had to let him go for obvious reasons. Not something I particularly enjoy (driving or letting people go) but its either that or send Mrs Windows out and I do the dress making and no needs to see that. If things keep improving, we'll take him back on and hopefully, ultimately, take an apprentice seamstress on as well.

It's a nice day for a white wedding. With garments supplied by Mrs. Tino & Husband Ltd.
Do you live in Hemel Hempstead or St Albans?

Thanks for your kind words on the tipping thread, Tino.
Any good recent funny anecdotes from the wedding business? I hope it continues to boom.
I suppose you have to skirt around Luton to get to Hemel Hempstead just to avoid having an IED lobbed through your car window by Shah.
That sounds good though. Driving around the countryside with the boot full of lace and filigree; having just avoided the bulk of the peak hour traffic.
Business is going well here too for me. Lots more decent work but I'm still getting a few enquiries from locals who have unrealistic expectations when it comes to cost. Materials here have gone up 30-40% in some cases and everyone wants a palace for a couple hundred grand. So I'm not doing any small residential stuff - too time consuming and the fees tend to scare them off anyway. I'm more involved in transport related infrastructure integrated with various residential and commercial elements near the new metro stations. It's a bit of a building boom here with 27 new stations under construction and there's plenty of work spinning off from that.
Switched off the airbnb. Got many people booking then cancelling. Something dodgy going on. Think some people are trying to make money relocating displaced people from Ukraine, which I would happily accommodate but not through some 3rd person. I needed a bit of a break too from all of that caper. I've had around 56 groups and over 360 people from all parts of the globe stay here but that was mostly pre-covid. Times and people have changed I believe. Not as much fun as it used to be with all these new hosting requirements - and you never know if a guest has genuine proof of who they say they are, especially when it comes to locals who mostly want to party and could potentially trash the place.

For heavens sake.
I've twice been close to posting something meaningful and arsed it up both times.
