SURREY VS LEICESTERSHIRE/MIDDLESEX/KENT/NOTTINGHAMSHIRE/YORKSHIRE/LANCASHIRE/HAMPSHIRE/ESSEX METRO BANK ONE DAY CUP
First topic message reminder :
Surrey have named a 14 man squad for the Metro Bank One Day Cup opener against Leicestershire at The Kia Oval on Thursday 3rd August.
Surrey will be without 13 players this year due to a minor cup competition.
Rory Burns will captain the side in this season’s competition.
Ben Foakes, Jordan Clark and Dom Sibley are all available as well
Matt Dunn, Yousef Majid and Amir Virdi are named in the squad for the first time this season.
17 year old Luke Griffiths has signed a one-month contract to play for Surrey during the Metro Bank One Day Cup, Griffiths is a right-arm fast bowler who has been part of the Surrey Player Pathway since the U12 age group.
Sadly Nathan Barnwell and James Taylor will miss all of the competition with Back stress fractures.
There is no place in the squad for Sheridon Gumbs, Nick Kimber or Nico Reifer.
Full Squad:
Burns (c)
Blake
Clark
Dunn
Foakes
Geddes
Griffiths
Majid
McKerr
Moriarty
Patel
Sibley
Steel
Virdi
Nice surprise to have a much better squad than expected
Griffiths and maybe Majid and Virdi on drink duties

The comms going on about how we're well on top and it's our game to lose.
With our tail starting at 7, I think it's most likely we will lose.
And Krish Patel just gone. He played well and sensibly - a lot better than Burns has done in this competition.

Dom sibley is named captain and it's 1/1 for him as he wins the toss and elects to bowl.
Was that playing football? They were doing that both days at Guildford. Thought they would know better by now although it did actually allow a better batsman than Burns atm to play.

Can pick holes, but what a great game of cricket with a last ball finish, this is why we love it!

Excellent and very promising knock from the 17 yo, as you say guildford, our skipper could learn a thing or two from that

Yes, he was a complete d1ckhead. He came very close to spoiling the closing overs. Fantastically tense and great for Griffiths to get us over the line off the last ball of the 50th.
Ryan Patel with a ton and then some was Surrey's star man. Take his contribution out and it would have been another embarrassing defeat. However, several other good performances helped to limit Essex and then enabled us to chip away at the target.
Btw, one for our own gloveman here Olly to savour - Blake's stumping of Khushi from Moriarty's leg side wide. Top class awareness and reactions.

The Essex comms is notoriously awful - don't know why they persist with him.
Good for the youngsters to perform well and get a win on the board.
