First topic message reminder :

Surrey have named a 14 man squad for the Metro Bank One Day Cup opener against Leicestershire at The Kia Oval on Thursday 3rd August.
Surrey will be without 13 players this year due to a minor cup competition.
Rory Burns will captain the side in this season’s competition.
Ben Foakes, Jordan Clark and Dom Sibley are all available as well  
Matt Dunn, Yousef Majid and Amir Virdi are named in the squad for the first time this season.
17 year old Luke Griffiths has signed a one-month contract to play for Surrey during the Metro Bank One Day Cup, Griffiths is a right-arm fast bowler who has been part of the Surrey Player Pathway since the U12 age group.
Sadly Nathan Barnwell and James Taylor will miss all of the competition with Back stress fractures.
There is no place in the squad for Sheridon Gumbs, Nick Kimber or Nico Reifer.

Excellent find, JimBob. Guess that means he's been or is being released by Surrey. Feel sorry for him if he goes out of the game. Never given much of an opportunity by Surrey despite regularly giving his best as a sub fielder in the Championship.

In the 3 games which have actually been 50 overs per side, we've been all out each inside the distance.

Yorks 124/3 off 20 and seemingly heading for a comfortable win. If we have any chance, we're going to have bowl 'em out inside about 45 overs.

Yousef Majid suffered a hamstring strain whilst fielding against Yorkshire. Ben Foakes twisted his ankle whilst batting against Yorkshire and is unavailable. Matt Dunn and Jordan Clark are still unavailable with hamstring injuries.
Tom Lawes has been released by the Oval Invincibles for one game.

Ha! I tell you, mate, I genuinely believe I could do a better job as skipper than Burns yesterday. Our performance and his role as batter and captain was unbelievably bad.

Goochie and you have largely and rightly called it already. Totally ineffective and irresponsible batting. Our approach - and Burns’ especially - was like it was a 30 over game with us trying to catch up with the run rate. It was all too clear from very early on that we were going to leave a shedload of overs out there.

After that dig, it was almost inevitable we were going to lose and I can accept that but not the way in which we went down. No fight, hardly any life about us at all. No voice or encouragement heard from Burns. At least try and get a few wickets. Stewart spoke about it being a ‘development competition’ for our players. In that case give the ball to Griffiths early on and see what he can do. A couple of wickets would have given him a proper boost and maybe even launched a career. Instead, Lawes and McKerr bowled 9 expensive overs with little or no variations before the spinners came on with Griffiths having to wait until almost the death.

I’ll leave it at that.

The 19 year old spinner has played five games for the Surrey Second XI and of course is the son of England legend Mark.
Lawes is needed by his franchise to carry out the drinks.

More worryingly, I remember Tommy’s grandad Alan playing for Kent. A decent middle order bat and fine boundary fielder despite his bulky frame.

Same here Guildford,he was a proper allrounder and decent bowler for a bulky lad... just realised, his dad was the (bulky) allrounder, and as Guildford rightly says, his grandad was the batsman/fielder

Bizarre interview with Patel after the game, apparently we're improving, nothing negative said and impressed with the youngsters performances, 2 overs from Griffiths, none from Ealham, so not sure what he watched, almost like he was told what to say

This has been my frustration - I have no issues with this being used as a development competition from a Surrey point of view, with so many missing due to franchise commitments it makes sense really.
But like, actually use it as such...back your words up with actions! It's bloody pointless these youngsters playing and not being given any responsibility or opportunity, how are they meant to learn and develop?
