The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Great win by England there, really held out well, very good performance.
and so it's Eng v France, and NZ-Aus in the semi-finals. Bet they're both going to be good matches

Yo! England and France in the Semis. Just great rugby from both.
The Chef has both sides of his bread buttered after that.
Well done both Mods btw. NOT taking sides... but now ye know what I had to deal with on 606. Its a constant struggle to make and keep things cool.
Believe.

Guaranteed Dreamer. I just think they are all so worthy of it. I can see an NZ v England final. Unless France produce another performance like that - against the head. They are very like England in fact. Both have the power up front and no end of skill at the back.
Bring it ON!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
England win in a taut finish. Plenty of things to work on for the France SF, but a better performance than the previous matches.
The forwards did really well, particularly the 2nd row, and the backrow looked a lot better with Kvesic at openside and Jones on instead of Everard. There was certainly a difference at the breakdown.
Ford controlled well for England, but Farrell didn't convince playing at IC again, he's not offering the style of play you need outside Ford. It was a shame to see Daly go off injured, he's one of our best players, but Armitage did well coming on (he's a big lump).
Should be a good match against France by the sound of their performance against Aus, we only beat them by 11 points with home advantage in the 6N. Both sides will be hoping the Boks put the BBs through the mill.

CY,
It is really well run. Have no fear. Proper Mods in control. In fact, 2 out of 3 of the Rugby mods are also Pub regs. Coincidence? Topical.
Enjoy mo chara.

Rory has parred his first two holes. He's maybe a little unlucky not to have had two birdies, but he's doing okay. His work off the tee isn't great though. He's through two.

John, welcome my man. Good analysis on the game. Just one thing - Im not sure, but I think the Boks are out of the SF's. Havent Oz made it instead? Please correct me if Im wrong.

Cari, he's still leading is all you need to know
He's just parred again. His tee shots aren't too good, but the rest of his game is pretty decent.

Hmm, a bit of a worry because in the first two rounds his tee shots were beautiful. Given his history at the Masters, and how much everyone in Ulster so badly wants him to do well, it's going to be a nervous last two rounds!
You know, he's big pals with a lot of the Ulster players. When Johann Muller met him he said he hoped they could get out for a round of golf... and then said to the local press he was hoping for a win

Ooh, my mistake then, thought they had said the Boks had just scraped through.
The Aussies should offer the BBs a challenge on the skill front, but I suspect not as much on the physical as Eng/Fra would like.

A riddle, wrapped in an enigma, wrapped in some sensible trousers.
I remember the Masters. Saints beat Ulster that day in the quarter, dispiriting. We went over to Hampstead and had a pint with Rava and Asbo. But then when we got back to the hotel, we saw McIlroys collapse and it was... a bad day for Ulster sport, lets put it like that.
Yes! Birdie.

CY, as a couple of people have already mentioned you can change it in your preferences (via "Profile" up the top of the page). However for any topics you've already commented on (like this one) you'll have to click "stop watching this topic" at the bottom right of page - the preferences change works for any from now on.

Munsty,
Do you think we now have the nous to beat them? We dont have the physical power, but we have the players to do so - if the game plan is spot on, imo. We held them in the scrum, it was just in the loose we had probs. And our non-lineout. That needs to be sorted. We need both those weapons locked and loaded, to beat them. And then, let Marshall, Conway and Gilroy - at them.
Ruddock must play his best team to suit now.

Gibbo,
England showed that if South Africa don't get a chance to impose themselves, they are rather lacking.
Personally I think we had the best non-contact skills in the group but it's how we don't get monstered by other sides is the perrenial question.

Munsty. I agree. From the back 3 and at Centre (Edit) - we had. It saved us in fact. But our half-backs are a problem though. Who plays? I'd go with Jackson again. Not sure about Marmion, tbh. But we didnt see him play tonight and we won.

Yeah but South Africa are a massive step up from Scotland (no offence As when you see this). I'd go with du Toit who looked a lock quicker with his service when he came on previously against SA.
I think I'd go with Jackson as well but wouldn't be too bothered with McKinney playing.
I hope Gallagher plays at openside.
Oh, Conway scored another try tonight.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Jackson didn't give a good account of himself at all against England. But- he has much more innate rugby talent than McKinney. If we're going to rely on our attack in this one, he's the better choice. He can make breaks and put men away. And we need to play a slightly risky brand of rugby and keep it away from contact when we have the ball.
I just worry he still has a lot to learn about controlling a game and channeling the real talent he has in the right way- especially when the team is on the backfoot and he isn't getting much protection.
Marmion, I didn't like versus South Africa last time at all but he was an improvement for England. 9 really is a big issue for us.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
You have to get the blend of both. In the group stages I think it's important to get all the promising players some gametime and I think Ruddock has rotated well.
When it comes to the next round you'd like to see the guys who did well in the group back in.

Gibbo, disagree about McIlroy. He has to stay agressive. He goes out too defensive and he will drop shots. It's not how he plays his golf. Tommorrow maybe he can go defensive but today he has to be quite attacking.
