First topic message reminder :

Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence

So pull up a chair....what'll it be? appletini

Evening all,

Got my first nose bleed in a long time. Kind of annoying but at least I wasn't doing anything that made it incredibly inconvenient.

Wow that must have been really boring for whoever read that.

I know there is a separate thread for it but I just want to post my thoughts in here on the day before Swanny's wedding. I really think those two are wonderful people and even more amazing as a couple. I can't think of any two people I'm more happy for to get married to each other and I hope so much that tomorrow is a wonderful day for the two of them!

Evening all, got a bottle of wine and invictus lined up after my bath!!

Actually have a rugby question: obviously I play front row, mainly hooker now- I was wondering what weight you reckon is the norm for someone at lower league level? Currently i'm at 14 1/2 stone having put on 3lbs in 2 weeks through gym work and shakes. I was thinking another 1/2 to 1 stone?

Also: I can run about 3/4-1mile at 3/4 pace, reckon I should be aiming for more?

Cheers Guys!!

Prop personally I think you should just play at the weight you feel best at. You're the best person to answer this as only you know how you feel. Obviously if you're lighter you'll feel fitter and more mobile but bulk always helps in the front row so I suppose it's about balance but hey what do I know I was a winger!

In terms of your second question, hey you can never be to fit or fast but how important is this to your rugby?

Enjoy your wine sir!

Peter Falk, the American actor most famous for his role as US TV's scruffy detective, Columbo, dies at the age of 83, only him could have played that role so well.

Years ago as a kid I was in France with my parents and Colombo was on telly, dubbed.

All wrong. Allll wrong. No NY accent, no quasi-bumbling. They dubbed him as a strong voiced character, not the 'Ah my wife, you wouldn't believe, makes me wear these, whaddayacallem, braces. You wear braces? The killer worse braces. Howaboudat?" deliver he had.

'twas perfection, Peter.

And this role as the evil Jack Lemons sidekick as they tried to ruin the life of The Great Leslie (Tony Curtis)? Understated slapstick. If that's possible.

RIP.

I used to watch Columbo with my Mamgu on Saturday nights. The comedy value of that series was quite high I noticed even as a teenager.

In other news, this Flip rain can Flip the Flip off for a Flip few Flip days for flipping flippedy flip's sakes.

The show ran for the best part of a decade or so, didn't it? Say 6-7 episodes a year. So between 60 and 70.

Allowing for two Christmas specials I'll go for 62. Very Happy

clap A man who knows.

I watched it in German a few times. Which was fun it itself. But, you lose that accent - you lose the character, already.

Still, it was the biggest selling series of its day - Worldwide. Everyone loved that character.Even in Mandarin. Which says it all.

He had an in-built divilment. A mischevious and a serious character, in parrallel. It made him perfect for so many roles. Gangster and Detective movies especially. But, in Columbo - he was the show. The whole show. So rare. Ale

RIP
Peter Falk.

Peter Falk is great in the spoof "Murder By Death". That film's funny anyway, and he takes the pish out of his Columbo character in it.

Ljubicic has Murray thinking here. Has a mental edge now.
1-1 in sets. Could so easily have been 0-2.

McEnroe is right. He needs to be less passive.
Said the same about Henman.

Oh Yeah....I'm a bit apprehensive about all the flags in the way on the screen tho. Hopefully they won't get in the shot too much. I thought the organisers were going to stop flags being put up in the crowd. When The Boss played you could hardly see him for all the flags on the telly. WTF do the crowd need to do it for? Who gives a sheet if they want to say hello to their mam on TV? Rolling Eyes You going to watch Gibbo?

Not watching the tennis Cari, really not a fan of Murray, just comes across as a real miserable oh dear every time I see him. I mean ffs cheer up man, you are getting to play a game that you love for a living, most people would kill for that.

Howya Gibbi? I have Ale in hand and the wife is sat doing her new 'Carry On' puzzle. 1000 pieces, she'll no doubt have it done by the end of the night.

True.
With Henman, it wasnt just the head. It was the fact that he wasnt good enough to ever win a Major. Murray is.

But, trying to effectively displace Rafa or Fed, possibly the greatest tennis-players of all time, is no easy task.

He needs everything he's got, to be in full tune - in a one-off... and then lots of luck, imo.

Im very doubtful tbh.

I can see him maybe winning the Australian.
