Post by Guest Thu Jun 23, 2011 10:56 pm

First topic message reminder :

Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence

So pull up a chair....what'll it be? appletini

Luckless I don't think thats the reason he got off because his parents had cash and found God. They decided he can be used to help society and have given him the chance to do so.

Seems a better approach to me. Reform him instead of locking him up. Not all crimes should get same punishment. There is much to consider.

Exactly - far better for people to go to ww and learn about nutrition than spending hundreds & hundreds of pounds/euro on slimming drinks etc.

I agree and likewise it is better to buy fresh fruit and vegetables and cook fresh meals in olive oil than it is to eat weightwatchers ready meals.

the weightwatchers food is manky. that's the commercial side they are trying to capitalise on. I don't buy into it.

they do have a session each week about trying different foods and I must admit they are quite honest about the ww food not being great.

Micky thats what matters mate. Seriously good luck. Please don't feel I was critcising you in anyway. Loosing weight and changing your lifestyle is HARD so don't think I am being trivial or flippant about this.

Hey I hate private gyms too that fleece people with membership fees and stupid sports supplement companies too but thats another story...... Very Happy

I don't think prison shouldn't be used as a "punishment" per se, it should offer a chance to rehabilitate people and to keep dangerous criminals away from the general public.

It doesn't sound like he is a danger to the general public, and if they feel he can be rehabilitated outside of prison then that should be an option. If he comes from a well-to-do family then it is more likely he'll have a good support system, so prison might not be necessary.

Roddick is out of Wimbledon Cry and he looked so good in the last round too...

And to make matters worse, it's just started raining. I now fear for the box I need to carry to the train station that is protecting my 12 assorted krispy kreme doughnuts (they look amazing btw). need to find some sort of plastic bag asap!

Afternoon all.

All this diet talk, and I've just been out to a steak lunch ... (Hawksmoor, best steak in London Smile ) I had green salad and mushroom, no chips at least.

I've just had an email through, Ummm, has set up a summer internationals tipping pool on Sportsguru. Let me know if you want to join and I'll PM the details.

You don't have to touch WW's food if you don't want to. Only WW product's my friend used was their low fat cream. She also got this pump / spray bottle thing for reducing the amount of olive oil necessary for cooking food (spray your meat with oil, rather than cooking it in oil).

My verdict on the whole weight loss issue. Different things work for different people. If you feel you need to lose weight try something that you think you will enjoy. I don't know anything about WW although they could be helpful from a motivational side so could those Motivation Weight management clinics. I think that the gym is not really a sociable place as people often feel self conscious there and of course there are the gym monkeys.

It is, I got one as well. You can put any type of oil you want into it. Useful for salads a well.

Its cheaper if you can get someone to get it for you who goes to weightwatchers. I think I got my one for about 8 euro.

Clearly as they feel that it will be easier to rehabiliate him outside prison.

Cheaper on the taxpayer if they don't have to provide for his rehab - his parents seem to have the wherewithal to deal with it. And he won't pick up anymore bad habits!

Jebus Christie, there's been some convo's in here today. I'll give the drug dealers one a miss thanks - some people have listen to that kind of thing at work. And all I'll say on the weight issue etc is this: if your mental health isn't good, everything else is feiced.

Anyway, not long now.... tick tock...

So you're happy to see poorer drug dealers sent to prison and the richer ones essentially paying their way out of prison? That can't be just.

If you insist on dressing it up up like that then kind of. If someone is likely to reoffend then I can't fully accept giving them the same pass as someone who has the means of getting their life on track and changing it.

The "It doesn't sound like he is a danger to the general public" was just to indicate that he doesn't have to be locked up for the safety of the general public. The key point was that the courts obviously felt that they could rehabilitate him outside of prison. It's a judgement call, in which case all factors (such as the people around him) need to be considered.

Sin - Staggy simplified what I meant somewhat. The mind is a very powerful thing and a lot of physical problems can be traced to mental health issues - including obesity. How we overcome physical problems can also depend on our mental health.

Anyway, I'm out of here, I don't like the way things are going.

Exactly better to be fat and happy than fit as a fiddle with a lot of inner demons.

Is not the 'fat & happy' claim rubbish. Most overweight people are depressed by their weight from what I can gather (well, they will tell you that after they have lost the extra weight).

Most is the word Sin. Yea maybe not great example but you know what I mean.

In my own case, although not overweight, I've often lost up to a stone on holidays (either walking/climbing or skiing - I find it very hard to get food into me at altitude). I always feel great losing the weight even though I don't need to do it. All the exercise probably helps though.

I agree but I think there is probably a good correlation between physical health and mental health. I certainly don't feel as good psychogically if I'm not training regularly. You can take it too far though for sure.

Hey Nadal could be in for a fight here, hes getting nowhere on this dudes serve......

Anyway, I'm out of here, I don't like the way things are going.

I think it becomes a catch 22 vicious circle situation. A lot of it is stress as well - with people comfort eating.
