The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Kildare have been particularly poor by the sounds. Racking up a lot of wides again - they got 17 wides the week before last match. It must be boiling there too.

38-24! So the game against Scotland is the only one we conceded below 30 points. That is embarrassing.
Not a great tournament for them. I just hope the guys we are depending on for the start of the league can get some well earned rest and recharge the batteries.
To be honest, I'm incredibly disappointed and unhappy that Craig Gilroy was included for todays dead rubber game. He should have been withdrawn as soon as we were out of the tournament. This is a guy who is playing first team rugby every week and is going to continue doing so.
Would what the player wants factor into this decision making? If Gilroy wanted to stay part of the squad and play the game, would you still have withdrawn him?

On the whole, yeah. If a player is playing regular first team rugby in the Magners League I don't see the need for them to take part in age group rugby- they've already made it in the senior game.

This is a development competition after all. Gilroy has a big season ahead of him where he will probably start a LOT of games for Ulster. I feel that the provinces should take priority here. For guys like Annett, Jackson and Henderson it's a great competition but Gilroy doesn't need it.

Afternoon all, hope everyone's having a lovely day (especially you Cari! Happy Birthday!)
Just got back to the house after a lovely family meal, so going to enjoy the sun up the garden for about an hour and a half before I have to catch the stupid train back to Cardiff.
Got no idea what these scores mean in the Dubs game, looks like you're just talking in code to me

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I can't comment on that Hughie cause I couldn't see it and the commentators didn't say anything about it, although the Kildare fella they interviewed afterwards was complaining about it (not surprisingly). There have been some very controversial decisions by refs recently that have dramatically changed the fortunes of teams. still, no one can complain there's no drama in GAA!
Anyhoo, I'm off to watch Pobl Y Cwm.

He makes a number of fair points. Until he gets onto O'Callaghan, D'Arcy and Fitzgerald. Certainly there is a problem that these players are above criticism in the Irish media (or at least the first two are) but ultimately he's mainly just wrong. He's right about Ross as well. He's a decent player, somewhat overhyped, but still the best we have.
The point is either you're brilliant or rudey poo when it comes to the Irish sporting media by and large. And yes, they are hugely condescending towards Ulster as they write for an audience that is mainly comprised of Leinster/Munster fans. They give them what they want to hear. There's no doubt if you listen to some of the pundits BBC NI have brought in they give Ulster fans what they want to hear the same as RTE or Setanta do for Leinster/Munster.
I think you have to have a thicker skin if you're an Ulster fan. You have to accept that until we actually win something we're going to be subjected to constant snide remarks.

There probably have been some condescending things written about Ulster but I think a lot of Ulster fans read far too much into some comments.

Yes. In all seriousness, why shouldn't we though?
I don't see the harm a siege mentality amongst our fans and players will do when it comes to taking on the other provinces or creating an atmosphere at Ravenhill.
We're the new Munster and I like it.

Notch, there was once an intergalactic Emperor whose advise Ulster could bear in mind.
"Your hate has made you powerful. Give into your anger and strike me down with all of your hatred", Emperor Palpatine 1983
Seriously Ulster can just use it as motivating tools. Having a chip on your shoulder can be a weapon if used correctly.

England miss out on a great chance then on the subsequent scrum, get dominated by New Zealand at the tackle.

I wasn't sure but I think they might have shown Kado at half time. Dublin were always going to win that game and will continue on until the semis at least. They're a decent outfit.

Exactly! I'm happy to stoke the flames of our bitterness. It's our dreams of proving everyone wrong that will propel us back to the top
For the record, I think the five players we have in the RWC squad is a fair representation in the final 30
*Wasn't that in a galaxy far, far away a long time ago?

Still think New Zealand will come away with this in the end.
But England should be very encouraged because there are some fantastic young players in this side.

I also think that... it's not really about Ulster players in the Ireland squad. Just the best. So those five, to be fair, are amongst our best 30 players.

I like how that guy gives out about Danny Barnes being the solution to Munster's problems at centre. I'm not totally sure how that is southern bias.
Notch,
I think that's what people need to remember. It's all Irish players, no provinces at this stage.

To be fair, that was a bit odd. I don't really know what that was about. It was a good rant though. I mean, once you get started why stop? You've got to keep it going. I think the point of that column is that is just that. The FRU is a good site. Loads of info about schools, club and womens rugby as well as the male senior side.
It'll be all inter-provincial stuff at first when the final squad is announced, then when we get started everyone will forget about it and get behind the side. Then we will go out and everyone will blame Paddy Wallace. It is the way of things.
