The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

But why? It's the traditional emblem of Ulster Rugby, Tyrone GAA etc.

Good stuff, Munsty. Is your first year pass or fail, or will your marks count towards your final degree classification?

Amazing break for my little brother. He's passed an interview with a major news website as a rugby correspondent and analyst. Part time and he can fit it around his studies. He's chuffed but its nowhere near set in stone.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Wow, that would be awesome for him, Stag. It knocks Munsty's news into a cocked hat!

Message Stag.
Thanks everyone. I kind of knew I passed anyway but there were one or two results which really shocked me. One in particular was an English module which I was kind of struggling with having only gotten passes in the first two assignments then in the last one I got a first!

London vs Waterford in the All-Ireland Football. Brilliant. London in new territory. Round 2. Hope they win. Be a huge lift for GAA over there.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Stag, they have but London hadn't won a match for 30 odd years up to a few weeks ago I think.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Anyone. As long as you live in England. Sure there are no real eligibility rules in GAA. I think that two fellas on the Cork team in the 90s played for Kildare. I think as long as you live or work in the area you can play for them.
According to fellas on the GAA board, there are 2 fellas from last year's Kerry panel on the team and several others who have been on panels or are Championshp standard.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Stag,I asked on the GAA boards if there was an Australia GAA team or Sydney,Perth etc but doesn't seem to be. While it wouldn't be financially feasible , you could probably field a solid team considering the numbers emitgrating there. Throw in a few irish fellas who play Aussie Rules and you're sorted!

Yeah they're all Irishmen Lucky. I mean I don't think they're from the local area like proper GAA (hark at me..."proper" GAA you know what I meant!).

I meant like those based in Ireland who tend to play for the clubs in the county they were born/grew up in. Not sure what the requirement would be for teams based over here...or at least there doesn't seem to be one.

Sorry Cari, I'm still working - wasted too much time looking up smileys after lunch
As far as GAA eligibility goes, things tend to be looser for amateur sports - a move of town is much more likely to be for non-sporting reasons.

Gibbo, for your grandfathers to have survived the Somme is a hell of a thing. You must be destined for greatness! Or establishing a virtual pub, one or the other.
