The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

You mean RPA? Royal Prince Alfred hospital. I wouldn't call it posh... but it's had a few improvements to facilities over the years. The show has been going on for many years now, some good ones...others not so successful. It has created many spin-offs around the world.
I usually find it hard to watch those operations - but saw some amazing ones recently. Excellent doctors in that hospital and the system is pretty efficient considering all the demand these days.

Linebreaker - it's no different from having the warning labels on ciggies. They'll be equally ignored by those who use them
I don't know where the Oz doc was filmed, but it was quiet compared to an inner London hospital.

Afternoon all, just spotted a very nice memorial piece on AB's flyhalf Nicky Allen, who died on-field aged 26 back in the '80s http://germinalpress.com.au/post.php?id=10

Maybe it was in a special ward, Cari? RPA is inner city...impossible to get a park around Camperdown on any day.
Kiwi, I vaguely remember him from the late 70s/early 80s. Tragic story about the tackle. I do remember there was a spate of severe injuries at schoolboy level at the time from collapsing mauls and dangerous tackles.

yes Line, but just imagine Steven has me on facebook. he updates his status to saying that he has nearly cracked something ground breaking.
Now I don't know much about much but if he was to log into Facebook and see that Micky T likes this, that will surely give him the courage to stay up that little later to finish what he started.

I'm busy upsetting Dragons fans elsewhere by saying that I think Micheal Owen was an average player. Apparently by saying that I'm being disrespectful to my Region?
I'm also limited by my Internet, so am reading more rugby related things.

ha, how is that disrespectful? For all the good qualities he had I'd agree with you about him being average.
I'm on phone duty today so am stupidly busy and having to be uber polite to everyone who calls in. Oh how I wish I could say what I really wanted to....

Michael Owen was a handy player with ball in hand, but he wasn't great. I don't see how it's harsh to state the truth.
Dreamer, as far as I'm concerned, yes I've been busy at work. I know, I can't believe it either! The nerve of my employers!

Dreamer about the Marley & Me comment on FB what I meant by it is that there is no real story. The whole point of movie is the sad ending as far as I could see.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
how is there not a story, when it's based on a true story?
I think the point of the film is to show all the differences and good things that Marley brought into their lives. That's how I see it anyway

ha stag you are a oh dear sometimes.
do you have a dog? The book was a better read and it just captures what dogs do in our lives. the book was very sad and joyful throughout.
it's just essential memiors of a dogs life and how it brought them good times and bad times. some of the best parts of the book weren't in the film which I thought was strange.

I don't have a dog. They scare me I didn't get it. No real character arc, no plot. Just random scenes about good times with the dog. It was like they built it up just to give the shock of the sad ending.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
as Dreamer said that its a true story so wasn't built up to shape that way.
I think it's a dog owners films for the most part hence why you didn't "get it" so to speak.

ah yeah Micky, think the film and book just really make you appreciate your dog a heck of a lot more.
My dog had to be put down just over 3 years ago, and the film just really brings back all the good and bad memories. A lot of the stuff that happens is so true to what owning a dog is really like, twas very well done.

Yea possibly. To me as I say it was all about the shock value of the ending. The book is meant to be superb. It was bestselling most of the time I worked in my bookshop.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I could only watch half of P.S I love you. I thought it was a rubbish film.
Guest- Guest
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I think that the shock value at the end was the only part that possibly reasonated with you at the end because throughout the film it;s more about the comparisions you make with your dog and theirs.

It's an emotional rollercoaster which made me a better person and more intune with my sensitive side.
Gerard Butler's attempt at an Irish accent didn't halve get my nerves though.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I've got to confess dreamer, I was totally confused by why you would need bravery to watch a film about a golden labrador but now you've ruined the ending it all makes sense
Talking of films you're meant to be scared to watch, I watched The Exorcist at the weekend there. I didn't find it as frightening as I thought it would be. I wussed out of seeing it as a teenager
I had built it up in my mind as this super-scary horror film but actually it didn't affect me like that- I thoroughly enjoyed it all the same. Excellent film imo.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Notch - I read that book instead cause I was too chicken to watch the film. Only cause I don't like horrors anyway. There's loads of good films I've missed because I'm squeamish - The Godfather films, The Shining etc. I did watch some of A Clockwork Orange the other night and it was boring (again the book was better) so I switched off halfway through.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
The Godfather films and The Shining don't have much too be squeamish about in them. Actually, maybe The Shining does but The Godfather films are just excellent dramas.
And you really should watch the movie version of American Psycho! It really is epic. The most graphic sequences of the book were cut though- they might not have been able to get it past the censors at that time if they included the 'rat scene'!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Notch - perhaps I could tolerate The Godfather films then because I've watched Goodfellas. With dramas, it can depend on how the violence is done whether it disturbs me or not, and if it's a good drama and there's not too much I can probably watch it. I watched The Red Riding Trilogy which was very violent in bits but superb drama, and the violence was necessary.
American Psycho...I don't think I could!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
There's not that much really explicit violence in the Godfather films. There is some gore in a famous set piece near the start of the first film, but mainly the violence is handled in a matter of fact way; to advance the plot not for it's own sake, and not gratuitous or shocking the way they try to make it in horror films. Not gory.
I think you'd be fine with it to be honest.

Godfather movies don't have too much. You know what i love. Sequencial tv cop shows. Without a Trace, Csi, Criminal Minds, Cold Case, Law and Order etc. You can just watch one episode it isn't an ongoing thing.

Haven't seen Far and Away Cari, evidently before my time. And no my rampant alcoholism hasn't led me to the stage were I've begun drinking in the shower. Oh wait you meant hair product bottles. Shampoo most days and it gets a treat of conditioner once a week.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Damien - The Omen, parts 1 & 2 really freaked me out when I first saw them.
It was on again a few weeks ago...I'd forgotten that bit where the nanny does herself in. That was creepy. Felt sorry for that poor priest too and the guy coming to grief with that sheet of glass off the back of a truck.
Not really too gory, per se...but something about the psychological build up of things as the kid grows up...and all who know get destroyed in various unpleasant ways.
