Post by Guest Mon 01 Aug 2011, 11:58 am

First topic message reminder :

Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence

So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Ale

Kiwi,

Was a good game of rugby actually. Really enjoyed it. Good win for Tasman as well away to the Magpies. There are a few fine players in that Tasman side.

Morning all, spent the first night in my new place last night. It was good to get in there, but far from settled, loads more to be brought in this week.
Met some of the neighbours too, nice folk, all have lovely dogs, which is a bonus!

Jealous of everyone heading to Chef’s party, would love to be going!

Laying in bed watching the New Zealand v France game in the 1999 World Cup. Cracking game so far. The game really has changed quite a bit since then.

Killing weeds later on. That should be fun.

Mick,

That's good it's all going well so far. Lucky you don't have a strong Tallaght accent otherwise the neighbours might not have been so nice Wink

Are you going to the France game?

I did Prop, which is surprising but I think they want to get Vickerman as much gametime as possible before the World Cup and the starting locks are now Simmons and Horwill.

Just found out our Uni is removing the grass pitch and bringing in one of those 3G surfaces. Very happy with that.

It is prop but nowadays it has improved a lot. It's not a hard surface below anymore so the impacts aren't hard.

They're also relaying the astroturf in the uni as well and making a 110M running track. Big moves that will certainly help the Sport Science department.

That's pretty cool, although to be honest anything would be better in my eyes than where we train during winter.....on astro turf next to the docks so we have the lovely taste of sulphur whilst being hit onto a hard surface!

Morning all.

US debt crisis thing is interesting. There's someone with a yank accent on the BBC news at the moment who seems to be suggesting that it doesn't really mean anything yet. Proverbial waste will hit the fan in November again.

Moving up in job terms. Now training to be a wine specialist. Muy excitismo. You're having steak for dinner sir? Oh you must try this Rioja... Blah blah blah...

Any dates or times yet for stand's pub squared meet?

Prop,

I think these pitches are the future. I don't think they should replace grass but be there to supplement them, especially during the winter months when so many games are cancelled.

Ulster have announced a third pre-season match. Away against Neath on the 19th August.

Good move. Will be a shadow team, but good opportunity for several of the younger/fringe players.

Kimmage (Irish: Camaigh) is a small suburb on the Southside of Dublin near Crumlin, Greenhills, Harold's Cross, Rathfarnham, Templeogue, and Terenure. The name "Kimmage" comes from the Irish cam uisce, which means "winding" river. The River Poddle flows through Kimmage, and flows on to join the River Liffey. The area lies in postal districts Dublin 12 & Dublin 6W...

I think...

Stag, Kimmage is the far side of Harolds Cross, which is on the canal beside Rathmines.
But we changed our mind and went to Rathgar which is between Rathmines and Terenure.

It’s about 20 mins from Lansdowne, I’d say a walk would be doable.

Penfro- Smile

A good tough game for our second-string players to come up against a club side with a point to prove- I like it.

Munsty, at times last season he did very well and at other times struggled. I want to see him with a full preseason with the team behind him as he has now. He did well for us last year, all things considered. But he was inconsistent.

Just a quick hello

Munsty - the only thing really worth seeing in Skib is the Famine Museum. As long as you can put up with Jeremy Irons doing a lot of the commentary. fascinating history especially as Skib was one of the worst affected places. Also interesting to note the financial contributions and where they came from e.g. Native Americans and convicts on a convict ship (somewhere in London, I think).

Then you can walk around the town and when you get back (re-) read The Experiences of the Irish RM - Skebawn in that is Skibberreen.

Just a short distance outside Skib is Loch Hyne - Europe's largest sea-water lake. Fascinating if you have any ionterest in marine biology.

Other than that there's nothing to do really.

Off to see quack. Slán libh

Afternoon. Pretty quiet in here.

Very jetlagged. Just catching up on my tv recordings, starting with the Richard Parks documentary and then Aus v SA following that. Not too shabby. Then it's back to the slog of rugby training, which I think after my week away will be very tricky.

Afternoon luckless, sorry for the delayed reply pal, had a busy morning. Yeah, was a little bit anticlimactic as it was clear that England were going to win comfortably very early in the day, but I just loved how we really kept them down, something that I haven't seen an England team do before. I think this England cricket team is bordering on being one of the greats.

ah cool, cheers Rev.

Ah just left the flat to walk back to work and there was a big crowd outside the stadium and loads of little kids in their Welsh rugby jerseys being walked there by their parents for the live training session. Have to say I was quite jealous, wouldn't have minded going to that.

Pete, the great thing about this England side is that if one batsman doesn't get runs, another will, or another. It's the same with the bowling: Chris Tremlett gets injured, Tim Bresnan takes five fer and scores 90 to boot.

I just had to do some translating at work. It took a fair while because I haven't written or spoken Welsh for so long.

Absolutely luckless, to win a test by over 300 runs having been 120 for 8 in the first dig, and the opposition being 240 odd for 4 in reply is some effort.

Every time England need somebody to stand up and be counted for them somebody does at the moment. It's great stuff.

This is definitely the best England team I can remember in my lifetime - 'team' being the right word. Exciting times ahead!
