The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Afternoon
Back at work now. Had the pleasure of being in Merthyr Tydfil this morning. The traffic was horrendous because there was big accident on the main road and it was closed for most of today. I'm shattered...could do with an afternoon nap...

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Kiwi, I was just having a well earned dig at Stag after his similar comment yesterday. I haven't started on him yet for the Principality one.
Seems I might have some decisions to make this weekend. England v Wales (not sure if I'm too bothered), Wigan v Saints in the Challenge Cup Semi Final and probably the Men of Gwent 7's. Might also have a rugby match myself. I guess I'll be sky plussing the two games.
Fancy a nap myself, but I need to fight to stay up to try and lose this jetlag.

Ha yeah, I could do with one of them....nearly home time though. Glad to hear you're settling into the new place OK and hope the naff, but highly educational, tea towel is getting some use
Thomond - has Galvin given up football to be a full time fashion
Risca - croeso nol. Hope your trip was all right (despite jet lag). I feel a bit bus lagged myself...

It was a bit of a separate point but I don't see why he would be a good rugby player. He is selfish and I don't think he would do a lot of grunt work.

Glas,
Football = Gaelic Football
Soccer = Football Association
In Ireland, football isn't what Man Utd and Chelsea play.

Not sure you did get anyone with that Glas.
Half the population of Ireland call soccer football so it’s not unusual to hear people clarifying which game they’re talking about. I don’t call it football on principle and I know I’m going to have to explain myself, but that’s a cross I bare.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
The word soccer is derived from asocciation football. Football refers to any game played on foot (not on horseback). Real talk.

Your first sentence is right but the second can't be true. Tennis and cricket are played on foot but you don't call them football.
Your third sentence is a radio station, isn't it?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I was just sloppy with my wording. Football was a game played in medieval times on foot (not on horseback). All forms of football (rugby football, association football, gaelic football, american football, aussie rules football etc) developed from that game. People call the most popular code of football in their area "football", and refer to others by their full names. Of course, there are some games on foot (like tennis and cricket) that don't have roots in "football" and therefore aren't called football.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Sorry, Robbo. It's unlike me to pick people up on things like that.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Nice trivia Robbo!
MunsterBTGOG (that'll catch on), like Robbo said people call the more popular code football, I call Gaelic football "football" since it's more popular in my head brain and the cross that I bare is the constant need to clarify which code I'm talking about.
Now, where's my copy of An Bunreacht

Micheal, far be it from moi to pass comment, but I would just like to point out, that officially, as of today, in the PM, you should change your location status in your profile, from Talifornia to Rothgor now. We have certain standards to keep on here and it would be absolutely spiffing if you could adhere to said standards. Thanking you muchly.
