There are 10 year olds up and down the country who would be upset with not saving that in a Sunday league match. So he's not good against the long shot, the snap shot or the high ball...

Think I'm gonna wait until hes played more than one competitive game for the club before completeley writing him off
I truly believe he'll be among the best keepers in the world, although that could be a couple of seasons from now. I don't see anything else given the praise he's got from the likes of Casillas and Reina

Difference for keepers between la liga and the premiership is massive.
Apart from Raina who else has been successful in both leagues?

Could have gotta world class keeper for what they paid.

Very good bit of business that from Roy, bringing Shane Long in. Really impressive debut
The Reading manager was on TalkSport the other week saying he couldn't believe there were only Championship clubs in the hunt for him and no Premiership teams. Careful what you wish for eh

He's not quite Massimo Taibi yet. Just won the u21 champs, can't be that bad. Just needs to get used to the premiership.
Listening to 5live atm, the first Man United "fan" - a word I use loosely in this gentlemans case - On with the "we need a Schmeichel" bandwagon already.

So Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal all draw winnable games and Man Utd squeeze past West Brom.
Weak, very weak.

As a Liverpool fan it makes me slightly pleased that none of the teams around us managed wins so far apart from United who are probably out of our reach anyway.
It's always dodgy when it comes to signing keepers, one who could have been amazing somewhere else struggles at another side, and I think a big thing is that he is too young, it will be hard for him to command a defence when they're all years older than him, I think Van Der Sar will have had that command.

It'll take time for a young goalkeeper to come and adjust to the league, I reckon we'll be praising him come Christmas.
A lot of draws on opening day lead to it feeling quite... I wouldn't say boring, but it lacked some kind of oomph. Hopefully push on next weekend with a win against Sunderland, both teams got well-deserved points this week and could both have new players by then as well.

Forgot to say congrats to Longy on his goal for West Brom. Really disappointed we didn't have a sell on clause for him.

Gutted.
Ref was crap as usual against the big teams, linesman were even worse gave some diabolical decisions.Rooney is one hell of a player,Young is an absolute grade A ****.
Disappointed not to get a point,Long looked good though.De Gea seemed dodgy,we're not a physical side by any stretch of the imagination but we still roughed him up.When he came out for the 2nd half, compared to Foster he really is tiny.

Re: Premier League Discussion Thread
Why is it that fans of all Liverpool's rivals go on about why Dalglish paid 20 million for Henderson and 35 million for Carroll, both bought for their potential, but nobody seems to question why Ferguson spent 19 million on De Gea, a young and relatively inexperienced keeper, who was surely bought for the same reason.invincibleILeak (CL-6WF) wrote:As a Liverpool fan it makes me slightly pleased that none of the teams around us managed wins so far apart from United who are probably out of our reach anyway.

I suppose to be fair, De Gea has a bit more experience at a high level compared to Henderson and Carroll.

And because De Gea is new to the division after a good season and summer abroad. Whereas Henderson was good for about 6 weeks last season and looked awful during the summer for England.

Maybe he has if you class La Liga better than the EPL but he's still played less games than Henderson and Carroll

Think Brave's talking about the standard of opposition he faced. I think Carroll will prove the best signing out of the three this season, with Henderson proving to be far the worst.

I agree with you Churchill, I think Henderson will struggle this year, but hopefully he'll come good when he's got a bit more experience under his belt.

Take a bow Sergio Aguero.
Not a bad way to introduce yourself to the PL. A goal and an assist within 3 minutes.

Utd could have gone for Given.
Thankfully for us they didnt.
Had a good prem debut for us sat.
Hope he'll have a good career at the Villa.

Re: Premier League Discussion Thread
Given wasn't a long-term solution though and I think Fergie didn't want another Van Der Sar situation where he realised had he bought him 5 or more years earlier he wouldn't have had all his goal keeping problems. I have a feeling he was eager to get young goalkeeper who could be playing for 15 years at a high level.
Dreadful starts for two of the promoted sides.

For committing a stupid red card offense that now see's him, as well as Gervinho, miss Arsenal's 3 next games. Considering that he probably knows there'll be no Cesc or Nasri and they have tough opposition. Yeah, brilliant.

Arsenal midfielder just posted this on Twitter (But in his native language): Tomorrow, Suarez, you're dead. You didnt let Ghana get into the semi.
Translated by an African football blog on Twitter.
Anyone thinking we'll have more outrage from the press and calls for footballers tweets to be censored?

well that's can only be 1 of 2 people , alex song or emmanuel frimpong.
Luis Suarez is the 1 of the most hated men in Ghana so it's not surprising.
it's not like he's actually going to shoot him though so i don't get the big deal to be honest

Whoops, it was Frimpong. I know it's not an actual death threat, it just seems quite unprofessional. Can you imagine him saying in a prematch interview that Suarez was dead tomorrow?

Some agent, no idea what his name is, said on the radio earlier that Tevez would be more comfortable living nearer Heathrow airport!
