The fact that that Dowd consulted with his linesman and decided only to give a yellow card is worrying. There does seem to be a trend developing as last week Kevin Davies' tackle on Cleverley was also deemed to be only a yellow card.

Bad? it was a leg breaker considering Hernandez's foot was well and truly planted. Anywhere else on the pitch and it would have been a straight red. If it was deemed a yellow, it should have been deemed a penalty regardless of the state of the ball - it was late, high and wreckless.

Re: Premier League Discussion Thread
Good result that for us. Wolves are a hard team to go and face, they are pretty good against the bigger sides. We played really well in the first half, but I was also happy with the second half where although we weren't on top we looked a bit better defensively.
Suarez was mesmerising again, his goal was sublime, and he is also getting involved. Again, though I'm worried about his reaction when taken off, although we want him to want to play all the time, Kenny seems to take him off every game, and he might get a bit annoyed if it keeps on happening. I was actually really happy with Andy Carrol this game, I think it was his best performance of the season, although people will point at his lack of goals, his overall contribution to the side has been good, he worries defenses.
Steven Gerrard had a good run out, looked pretty sharp and hopefully after a while he'll be able to start.
The weak link in our side continues to be Jamie Carragher, his lack of pace is a real problem, but recently he doesn't look assured in anything he does which is very worrying. I think we have to start making preperations for a centre back partnership of two of the three; Skrtel, Coates and Agger.

Yeh good win today against a difficult side , ive been one of Carra's biggest supporters but he looked slow and out of confidence today age might just of caught up with him still think he will figure in the team but after january who knows .
Saurez really doesn't like being subbed does he , Carroll looked sharp today and was unlucky not to score .
All together a far better display then last week , lets keep it going for the derby.

Was seriously unimpressed with Man United yesterday, and the reason was? No Mr Rooney. It made me wonder just how well we'd get on if he were to get a serious injury *touch wood*
I also wish Roberto Martinez would sort out his back four because if they were more solid at the back, I honestly think they'd become a very good side. They are good going forward with a solid midfield base but they're very dodgy at the back. Having Gary Caldwell can't be helping the situation.

Re: Premier League Discussion Thread
Just watched the Newcastle game (Missed it yesterday because of work) and at times we played some brilliant football. Another solid game for Coloccini, S.Taylor and Tiote defensively, as proved by stats, and we've still got one of the best defensive records in the league.
One question that I asked myself, how long can Blackburn keep hold of Hoillet? He impressed me last season and has started brightly again. Personally I'd love it if Newcastle were to sign him, but he seems good enough for most Premier League sides and he may be persuaded to jump before the Blackburn ship sinks.

Newcastle have impressed me the most. Perhaps a Europa League spot is not such a fallacy?
I was an Alan Pardew detractor when he got the job. How wrong I was.

Re: Premier League Discussion Thread
Newcastle definitely looking a very tidy side this season, I think Pardew has made avery shrewd buys in Cabaye as he seems to be pairing up very nicely with Tiote. Defensively you look very tight even though I do believe that a goalkeeper may be on your xmas wish list as I haven't been all that impressed with Krul.
On the topic of Hoilett, he'll be gone in January. There is word he is willing to sign a new contract but for there to be a 15m release clause. I think he is already thinking on jumping ship in the near future.

Re: Premier League Discussion Thread
Krul's been outstanding for us in most games and is in contention for a Dutch national team spot. We've also got Fraser Forster out on loan who's quite good as well. Coloccini has definitely been the biggest defender for us, hasn't had a bad game yet this season.
I think Europa League is a bit ambitious, but top ten should now be our target. Just got to hope Pardew keeps his job because it's quite clear he's had several differences of opinions with Ashley and Llambias.
Yesterday was he first time Obertan looked good, before he's always frustrated me in a Newcastle shirt but he made some good runs. I think in Jan we'll got after another winger to compete with Obertan, another striker and (hopefully) a left footed left back.

There is no denying that Krul does have talent but he just seems to be so indecisive at times and that could be the difference between 3 points and no points.

Re: Premier League Discussion Thread
I think he's only hesitated a couple of times this season (If that) but when it comes to dealing with set pieces and crosses he's been superb, organised the defence really well.
Hopefully the stability of having a regular back 5 playing week in and week out will only make us more secure.

I am possibly just seeing the worst in the lad, he can't be as bad as I seem to believe if he is part of one of the best defenses in the league. Is Harper injured or has Krul dislodged him as #1?
I can see QPR beating Villa today, quite comfortably too.

Did he get MoM? Christ... he was appaling. Must have been a wind up!
That said there wasn't a real standout performer from either side that took the game by the scruff. Norwich won, and deservedly, because of a solid team performance, and the midfield dominated Sunderland's all night long!
Pleased to see Morison score, hard worker, and really puts the effort in for the team.

Re: Premier League Discussion Thread
A good win today, a morale boosting one I should hope as well. We were clearly fortunate to be up against ten men, that type of tackle is usually disputed whether it's a foul or not, never mind whether or not it should be a red card. I am glad we took full advantage of the decision though, as there were times during the match where I was worried we wouldn't win the match.
Some of our players performed pretty poor though to be honest, Downing was dissapointing, Adam wasn't that effective (although he nearly scored a beauty!), Carroll did less for the side and even the brilliant Suarez wasn't as good today. Although I think credit has to go to Everton whose defending was top notch and kept all of these players quiet. At ten men, to be able to play as they did was impressive.
I am glad Carroll got the goal today, it's one he has desperately needed. He has been doing good for the team as a whole recently, but clearly didn't have a lot of confidence so the derby goal should boost his confidence, a lovely finish as well.
That was probably the biggest positive, as well as the strength from the bench, which is still great to see, considering last couple of years we could only bring people like N'Gog etc. off of the bench, it's great to see Bellamy and Gerrard being brought on as they are game changers, as it turned out to be the case. I also hope Capello, who was in attendance, was taking notice of Martin Kelly who was typically consistent and played very well, no mean feat considering he was up against Baines and the midfielders, and he even managed to do quite well going forward as well, hoping that he gets the England call-up, which I think he should have got months ago.
All in all, I'm glad we got a good win, and hopefully that can push us on into the United game where we can get at least a draw.

An appeal today against the red card(fair enough) but where is their apology for their idiot "fans" throwing stuff onto the pitch at Liverpool players???

Re: Premier League Discussion Thread
It was a rash challenge. It matters nothing that he got the ball. He lunged in at Suarez who was standing still. In my eyes in was borderline reckless, put perhaps a red was slightly harsh.
Regardless, Everton were warned during the week on what the referee expected. They seemed to totally ignore the warning in the first half. Rodwell had already clattered Adam moments before the red, Cahill then went studs up into Adam shortly after, Fellani trampled on Lucas' ankle and wasn't even cautioned and then to top it off Hibbert did his best to break Charlie Adam's ankle - and that wasn't even blown up for a free!
So all in all Everton could have found themselves a few men down come the break albeit the lesser of the offences got the worst punishment.

Re: Premier League Discussion Thread
I still dont know how Everton didn't have anyone else sent off , Yes Rodwell was unlucky but that ref has a reputation for sending players off so why jump in to a tackle and risk it ? .
Liverpool need to go into the Man Utd game and attack them from the off , Chelsea Basle and Norwich have all shown there are weaknesses in the Utd defence so we need to be posistive and have a go at them . Man Utd will attack us so we need to do the same back .

Re: Premier League Discussion Thread
I have a little feeling, although I doubt he will admit it, that the referee allowed some of the other challenges from Everton to happen without a huge punishment because of the earlier light red card. I think with some of the tackles Everton were putting in, particuarly the Hibbert tackle that Everton would probably have ended up with somebody sent off anyway.
Two penalties we have won this year, two missed, one by Suarez, one by Kuyt (although that was down to a very good save). Time to let Adam do his thing?

I assume because Kuyt was so reliable, and as Adam is a new player, Kuyt will be higher than him in the pecking order. As well as the fact Kuyt was one off his 50th goal. The one at Sunderland, I assume Suarez got to take because he was so stubborn, and probably deserved a goal because he did do all the work to make the chance.

That said interesting that they can't seem to replicate this kind of showing in Europe.

I think City could, the confidence and belief that they will have now will be at such a high.
They have not just a few just several top class quality players and come Jan they'll prob add a couple more.
The table looks scary reading, played 9, points 25, goal difference +26.

I don't think any teams will look forward to facing threats like Milner, Yaya, Silva, Nasri, Balotelli, Dzeko and Aguero. In Hart, Kompany and Richards they've got some quality defenders as well.

I cannot believe how bad Man Utd were destroyed today. 10 men or not, you NEVER see Man Utd take a mauling, it's extremely rare to see them lose by 2 goals! Especially at home, but that was just unbelievable, the movement of Silva today Milner and Toure so solid Balotelli and Aguero and Dzeko are so dangerous it's beyond belief. who can stop them?!
