Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the David Wallace photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

By "in here", I meant the pub "chain". Plenty of WUM comments were posted outside of the "pub" by other Irish pub regulars as well as "in here". I did say my memory of who did or didn't may be impaired

Bore da pawb / good morning. It's an appropriately cool and overcast day with which to end this stunner of an August.

"Australia, with a low population density and relatively low crime rates, continues to supply some of the world's most liveable cities," report editor Jon Copestake said in a statement.
"Despite the rising cost of living driven by the strong Australian dollar, these cities offer a range of factors to make them highly attractive."
No mention of the spiders, though...

I think you might 'forget' about them because you concentrate on the fact that it tends to be warm in Australia. With the summers we've had lately it wouldn't surprise me that it's an attractive proposition.

True enough, Mrs Penfro. But I still don't fancy going to Australia on account of the spiders. Same with Japan and the Japanese hornets.

Luckless, I read that some crowd of scientists discovered an even bigger and more viscous strain of wasp in Indonesia. The good news just keeps coming! I effin HATE those things!!

I haven't seen many wasps this summer, which is a good thing. They send me into a panic once I see one. It doesn't even need to come near me - just knowing it's there is enough.

Morning All
I don't mind spiders, they usually make me go uch i fi...but I'm not afraid of them. Wasps are a bit scary cause they might sting, but I did shoo one out of my kitchen window the other day. I wouldn't mess with a wasps nest though.

It's only house spiders I don't like, and even then they have to be above a certain size - I know when I see one if it's above that certain size or not. But poisonous spiders - those have to be scary, surely?

Wasp nests are unbelievably flammable. I found that out the hard way when I was about 13, nearly burned my mates shed down!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Mickado. I bet they never had trouble with wasps again though. I remember years ago we had a chimney fire at our mam's house and the fire brigade came out. A burly fireman went up into the attic, and came straight back down refusing to go back in because there was a massive wasps nest in the roof!
If I know a spider is poisonous then I wouldn't go near it...knowing me I wouldn't have a clue which were!

Luckily for you there are no poisonous ones in the UK.
I don't blame that fireman, if it was me i'd be going up there with the flamethrower. Aliens style!

Other creepy crawlies give me the heebeegeebs...especially if they're big and unusual looking, otherwise I don't mind them really. Bees are great. I like bees.

You guys would love it here.
Spiders all shapes and sizes but mostly in spring (which starts tomorrow) and summer. More activity in late summer as the males go on the prowl. I've had plenty of experience with funnel webs but numbers seem to be down. (Neighbour was bitten and was one of the first to receive the newly developed antidote)
Wasps... get them too. In fact, on my balcony they will be searching for a suitable nest in the next few months. I chisel the old ones off to try and discourage them but they are fast builders!

Does your spring still start on time?
I find with global warming or whatever it is the scientists have dreamt up it is never exactly on time.

Absolutely genuinely completely terrified of spiders. They have too many legs. I'm fairly sure I was told that the big ones we've started seeing in the last 5ish years will bite you. One of them went across my living room floor on Saturday night, a huge 'un, and I initiated a strategic retreat to my room. Feck even thinking about it makes my skin crawl.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I used to hate spiders. I think it stemmed from watching Indian Jones as a kid. We had some huge ones in our house over the last few years but they seem to have disappeared in the last two due to the cooler summers.
Spiders don't bother me anymore though, in fact I go out of my way not to kill the little chaps. Without house spiders we'd be tortured by flys and other annoying little feckers.

I remember I had this massive spider living in my bathroom in Ghana. It took me nearly a week to catch him and get rid of him. He was huge about the size of a standard tea biscuit if you include his legs.

Right after taking everything into account what I have to say is, I've been behind this Irish team since the six nations against Italy, lots of people where giving out back then but I could see they were tryin to play a certain type of game, it was just a forward pass here a knock on there away from clicking and that game plan came to fruition in the England game, I believed then and I believe now. We will come good at the World Cup.

This is the time of year for big house spiders. The males are all randy and go scuttling along the floor looking for spider poontang.

Staggy - no, Chippy Lane is Caroline Street. St Mary's Street is the big main one with the castle at one end and a statue of the Marquees of Bute on the other (at least I think it's him).

Just back from a boxing session in the 'loo (Wooloomooloo) ... I can hardly lift my shoulder... but it feels so good everywhere else.
Bekke, yes our official spring starts sept 21 but we had some warm weather a few weeks ago in mid August (mid 20s) then it dropped back to high teens. Around 20-23 daytime now but when it's 29-30 in the Alice, all it takes is a nor-wester... then SE Aust gets it a few days later. How is it in Jo'burg... or are you nearer Pretoria?

St David's would've technically been the capital Staggy. Cardiff only became a city in 1905 around Llandaf cathedral. No other city was given the title previously really, although some were associated with it for various reasons.

OK... just reading up on it.
Here is a link to where I live.
Northbridge
When I was a kid I used to think the bridge was built by the Normans... It was actually built in 1892
If you look at the image 'Tunks Park' - that is practically the view from my window... a big valley with playing fields. The bit of blue at the back is Long Bay; which goes into Middle Harbour, which goes into Port Jackson. The City is about 4-5 kms to the right... 5 mins by car for me.
