Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the David Wallace photo on the bar. That's a banning offence

So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Morning all. Good win in our netball semi-final last night (well, a win anyway, but only because the other team were docked 10 points for fielding 2 ineligible players). On the downside I dropped my mobile in a minicab on the way home, touch wood the driver manages to find it (though it is insured).

Have to admit Staggy I know what you mean. While walking to Cardiff central station on HEC night I had the misfortune of following a group of girls in costumes that wouldn't have looked out of place in a strip club - though the girls in question would have ... vomit

PS, random rugby news from down under:

Jonah Lomu wants a boxing match vs SBW

It looks like NZ sevens star Declan O'Donnell will avoid a criminal conviction over a pub brawl
last year
And cancer-stricken Blues player Kurtis Haiu has also escaped
conviction after punching a property developer in the face.

Lastly 5 young Otahuhu players have been banned for life for assaulting a referee. Will have to drop Panama an email about that one, he grew up in Otahuhu.

I'm actually from Ely prop - as are all my dad's side. Some bits are nicer than others. My brothers still live up there. Grand Avenue used to be pretty bad.

I don't think Wales had a capital until Cardiff got the nod in the '50s. I know Llywelyn held a parliament in Machynlleth centuries ago, but that wasn't the capital. In any case, Wales officially became part of England in 1536 so the capital would have been London.

That's partially correct. Wales did not have a capital from the conquest until 1955. Llywelyn Fawr (Llywelyn the Great) actually made his 'capital' at Abergwyngregyn, Gwynedd - overlooking the Menai Straits. Ift was Owain Glyndwr (anglicised by William Shakespeare as Owen Glendower Rolling Eyes ), the last true Prince of Wales The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub - Page 7 1606482304, who called the Parliament at Machynlleth in 1404 where he announced his vision of an independent Welsh state with a parliament and separate Welsh church. There would be two national universities and return to the laws of Hywel Dda (Hywel the Good).

Other places which could lay a claim to the ancient capital are -

Strata Florida, the Cistercian Abbey where Llywelyn Fawr held council in 1238

St Davids, the de facto ecclesiastic capital

Aberffraw Anglesey
Aberffraw was, in historic times, considered to be a place of special significance and for centuries Aberffraw was the principal Llys (Palace) of the Princes of Gwynedd, including Llewelyn the Great. Between the 7th and 13th centuries Aberffraw could be considered as the 'capital' of North Wales. At times much of Wales was ruled from here. The later princes of Gwynedd adopted the title "Prince of Aberffraw" or "Lord of Aberffraw".

Does your spring still start on time?

I find with global warming or whatever it is the scientists have dreamt up it is never exactly on time.

Just back from a boxing session in the 'loo (Wooloomooloo) ... I can hardly lift my shoulder... but it feels so good everywhere else.

Bekke, yes our official spring starts sept 21 but we had some warm weather a few weeks ago in mid August (mid 20s) then it dropped back to high teens. Around 20-23 daytime now but when it's 29-30 in the Alice, all it takes is a nor-wester... then SE Aust gets it a few days later. How is it in Jo'burg... or are you nearer Pretoria?

Yes, I am just south of JHB, we also had a warmer week than normal a few weeks back, but then it got cold again roughly 2 degrees in the morning for a week or so, but lovely weather at the moment, I got into my car earlier and it was 26 degrees outside.

Cheers Stag,

I checked Saturday when one of the boys mentioned it and it wasn't there Kado. Well I'll get it then.

Huggy, we do a course on an American aircraft then get evaluated on them while we load them. Just another qualification. Means I can progress better as a Corporal now, so I'll get better reports etc. The road to Sergeant starts now.

On the downside, I got called into work tomorrow so can't train for Risca tomorrow. Probably back with the 2nds on Saturday then.

Did you see the quote used by Phillipe Saint Andre when Toulon were accusing the French national team of stealing their coach or along those lines:

Cari - there is big controversy involving Toulouse, Toulon, France national team and Fabian Galthier.

Toulouse and Toulon are angry at losing coaches to the national side and Galthier made a series of remarks to media about why PSA isn't up for the job.

I love the barbers. Head in read a lads mag, the fit girl washes my hair, chat to the barber about how the soccer season is going, all the while a little clip clip clip sound is going. Then a hot mint towel afterwards and some good quality gel or pomade. Then leave and convince yourself all the ladies are checking you out.

A great day out. Its the small things in life Smile

I don't mind chatting to the barber but if you're getting something big done like,Bleaching or frosted tips it can get boring. Stag,I want to go to your barbers, sounds great!

I see it as a necessary evil. Although it's not really necessary.

Ah no I don't get anything fancy like that done. Short back and sides. The Ronan O'Gara/Chris Patterson classic Smile

Thomond its great. If you want to talk boxing they're great for it too but I don't have the knowledge.

I like to have a good shave before I go in. A really good one at the weekend - scalding hot water, a fresh blade, lemon shaving cream and a splash of after shave. Then a haircut as described afterwards. Unreal day of man pampering

Smile
