The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the David Pocock photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Thomond wrote:I think any elderly people watching the Ireland match could have had heart attacks.( if you were watching,I hope you're alright Gibbo! ) How we escaped without conceding,I will never know. Some positives are Dunne was great as was Shay. The midfield still seems to lack power to win ball and skill to execute attacks with the limited ball we have. Stephen Ward needs to learn how to track back!
Heart attacks? I near fell asleep. What a load of shoite. Ireland really are useless. Cant even pass a ball or keep possession.
Trap is on Millions, isin't he? For what? Dreadful. It was anti-football. They are better off staying at home. Its embarrassing
My team - Nederland, just played around with Finland away. 2-0. Yet another win.
Evenin all.

From what I've heard Trap is something like the 5th or 5th highest paid international manager in the world,I'm wondering why. The players we have are decent enough to play a better brand of football.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
ah boo, England just scored in teh footy after 36mins. 1-0 now, some pants defending by Wales there, although Young took his chance well.
Am a bit annoyed, was hoping we'd be able to keep it goalless until HT, and then who knew what could happen. Bah.

They are all fairly low-level players technically - in fairness. But, I agree. I saw them play v France and they were playing great football. Should have won 3-1 too. So no excuse for it. It has to be Trap's negativity.

Gibbo,if you took the players who started tonight and the players who should start, the team is a lot better.

I have to bow to your knowledge T. Im really out of the loop with Ireland soccer. I think I only knew 5 players out there. Given, Duff, McGeady and the self-overrated player from Tallaght. I like Doyle. Think he is the best we have. And Trap takes him off.
John Hartson on TV. Love im. So honest.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Im grand Chef. Have my youngest son (Liam) here for the next few days and am loving it. We talked into the early hours this morn. About everything and anything. I'm just... just amazed at his intelligence, knowledge and perception. Im proud to say that I am out of my depth with him sometimes. And I dont say that easily. Cochy phooker moi.
God I love him so much. His bro too. Also a smart geezer. And lovely men - which is more important.
My cup is full. Its all we ever wanted and strived for.

Jebus. That was some miss! Easier to score. Wales are contradicting their position in the FIFA Rankings here though.

This is a typical Wales football side, 3 players carrying the rest. What would England give for Ramsey or Bale?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
How are England so Poopie at football? They have the best League, World class players in all but one or two positions and money which Wales could live off the interest of. Look at Rooney. He was playing for England against their closest neighbours in a meaningful match and he could not give a Poopie.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Because the players aren't actually that good, they rely on much more talented foreigners to link up with to provide them with the opportunities to play well. England do not have the skill or creative players needed imo.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Yeah but Terry, Lampard, Gerrard and Rooney are good enough to get into most country's teams. Surely that is a good enough spine to build a class team on? Hart, Cole, Barrie and Dowling could walk into many country's teams.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Lampard and Gerrard? not a chance, not any more, Gerrard I guess possibly.
Terry is years past his best now as well. Rooney would be the only one to get a look in.
Those last 4 names has me convinced you may be extracting the urine a bit Glas

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I actually think England do have some very good players but they seem to lack the desire to be the best in the world. A lack of an apparent style of football doesn't exactly help matters either.
Ireland seem to have had one of their more fortunate days. We draw when we looked like we had no right to and now Armenia have beaten Slovakia 4-0 away.

Yeah, you do seem to be taking the pish here! A lot of the players you've listed have gone to World Cups and not cut it at all.

True. Which is scandalous considering their resources. It must start from bottom-up. They will never, ever - win a tournament with players like that.
Cue LDCPete. He gets mad about this. And he's right.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
well when you have a team who come back from a world cup and say they weren't motivated to play....says it all. How can you not be motivated to play for your country in a world cup?? actually scrap that, how can you not be motivated to play for your country?!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
English football needs a massive overhaul, but when you get lads put into academies and told they are the best thing since sliced bread, paid ridiculous money at such a young age, you're going to get complacent and lazy players. Add to that they do not develop the skill set at a young enough age, you get average and spoilt players. It does my head in. My Dad and I have regular rants about it. With the money made in the game in England, they should have more then enough to overhaul the coaching system from grass roots up. Will never happen though.
