England vs India - third ODI
So here we go again, England have won the toss and decided to bowl first, Cook feeling it isn't easy to defend a score here at the Oval. England make the one change, with Trott coming back into the side for Samit Patel, while India make two changes: Jadeja in for Tiwary to strengthen their bowling, and R.P. Singh for Vinay Kumar.
England team
AN Cook*, C Kieswetter†, IJL Trott, IR Bell, RS Bopara, BA Stokes, TT Bresnan, GP Swann, SCJ Broad, JM Anderson, JW Dernbach
India team
AM Rahane, PA Patel, R Dravid, V Kohli, SK Raina, MS Dhoni*†, RA Jadeja, R Ashwin, P Kumar, MM Patel, RP Singh
Surprised Aaron still not given a go...

Re: England vs India - third ODI
oh well bowled Jimmy, perfect outswinger, Rahane nicks it straight to Trott at first slip. Not really much he could do about that either, great start for England, India 1-1!

Afternoon all.
Day off the sillies for me today, needs a rest methinks.
Just looking at the wicket, looks a bit lively.
Very different to that belter the other day, this looks one the bowlers could have some fun with.

ooo did anyone hear Athers there? a bit of a dig about the ground half empty "voting with their feet, they support their team through think and thin don't they".
i'm not sure if that might have been sarcastic. To be fair they have filled the grounds up every time.

afternoon trebs
England have started well, the pitch looks lively, and there hasn't been any of that silly short stuff which they insisted on bowling earlier in the series.

Well you were all getting very angry at the lengths they were bowling, they might have listened.
Why did it work so well in tests and so poorly here though?

Re: England vs India - third ODI
To be fair trebs, they only really targeted Raina with the short ball in the tests, to the rest of the batsmen they were most of the time on a length around off-stump. Dravid edges Anderson, but it's short of second slip, and then Jimmy cuts him in half with a beautiful inswinger. Anderson's rhythm very much spot on so far today...

Has he gone? Anderson hits at the striker's end and England think they have Dravid...

Now that is true. Raina just seems to have found a way to play it now. Actually he's explosive in this series, as we see in IPL.
oh and Dravid run out. That's a big mistake from the great man.

Yep, he's gone, brilliant from Anderson, a bit lax from Dravid, was a bit slow in setting off I'm afraid. India 9-2 and in trouble...

he seemed to glance back and slow himself.. Caught a little sleepy almost.
I feel for him. Get up to 40 and you find yourself nodding off at the wrong moments.

Has there ever been a bowler who fielded better than Jimmy Anderson? That was really a quite superb bit of fielding

And bowled him! Full, straight, swings in, and Patel plays all around it, Jimmy on fire at the oval!

Re: England vs India - third ODI
Patel has look a big big hitter on the flatter wickets but he got cleaned up there.. blimey.
This was a toss to win I thin, The pitch will die a little after what 30?
Kumar should do well on it too if there is something left.

Re: England vs India - third ODI
Very good KingK, Jimmy and Bres hitting the right spots, none of this short ball nonsense, and India look all at sea on a lively pitch. Jimmy's run out of Dravid a superb piece of fielding too...
Fine over from Bres, Kohli looking lost out there.

Re: England vs India - third ODI
India just as well declare and then go home
Its almost hard to watch given how one sided this is, I'd really like a hard fought tightly contested match
Mind you we are actually bowling properly today!

Re: England vs India - third ODI
basically what we did so well in the tests, good length balls around the off-stump area, the one which got Patel a fuller ball... Ooo Raina gloves a short ball just out of the reach of Kieswetter, it's India's first boundary in the tenth over

Re: England vs India - third ODI
hmm Raina gets a bit of a lucky 4 but i sense a rush of blood there.. next ball could have got him out. Needs to settle a bit and be a bit wiser today.
I'm sure he'll look to explode but might need to play himelf in.
I am hearing eng fans responding to the Indians today, boos and cheers.. this is more like it.

Kohli gone..
hmm , hint to Engs groundsmen:
prepare some pitches!!
In comes MSD next I think. So we get the explosive pair back at the crease. Could be fireworks.

Re: England vs India - third ODI
and another, slightly short outside off from Jimmy, and Kohli has an airy waft and nicks it through to Kieswetter; What a horrible shot that was, and it looks like India might regret playing the extra bowler today!

They'll massively need that extra bowler in the 2nd innings by the looks of things.

fasir play to india fans, still there in massive numbers and still cheering everything.
doesn't matter how bad it gets they hang around. Athers must have been genuine when he said it.

And another fine, probing over from Bresnan, who's perhaps unlucky not to have got a wicket yet, beats Raina outside off a couple of times there.

Raina (whose name Bumble cannot pronounce!) and MS might just be able to get India to a half decent score. 150-200 would at least give them something to bowl at.

Dernbach on first change, I'd have expected Broad...

yep that's his way.
Looks like he won't hang around will just hit out and look to accumulate quickly.
the indian crowd loving it. they were a little quiet for some reason.

Re: England vs India - third ODI
with the ball not doing much anymore, this is actually a good pitch to bat on IMO, ball comes onto the bat very nicely; India are aware though that they can't afford to lose another wicket for a while here...

not yet convinced by Dernbach in the fifty over game. he's very good at the death when they try to hit him, but at this moment of the innings I don't think he's that effective...

I wouldn't agree with that, IMO Dernbach is one of our best limited overs bowlers. Plus he can't just bowl 10 straight at the death/we don't have enough cover for him not to bowl his full quota of 10

Re: England vs India - third ODI
the pitch is looking better already. Good move to bat second this time. I think it could be fairly high scoring from here so that slow start might have been critical.

Afternoon all
Pitch looks a bit juicy for an ODI ? Suppose it is what you get playing in September...
England bowlers enjoying it anyway - quite an opening spell from Jimmy ! These two are doing some recovery work but someone is going to have to play a blinder if they're to set a realistic target.

Oooo massive shout for LBW against Dhoni, I thought that looked out, but hawkeye has it just clipping leg stump so a decent decision I guess. Fine over from Dernbach, proving me wrong there.
