England vs India - third ODI
First topic message reminder :
So here we go again, England have won the toss and decided to bowl first, Cook feeling it isn't easy to defend a score here at the Oval. England make the one change, with Trott coming back into the side for Samit Patel, while India make two changes: Jadeja in for Tiwary to strengthen their bowling, and R.P. Singh for Vinay Kumar.
England team
AN Cook*, C Kieswetter†, IJL Trott, IR Bell, RS Bopara, BA Stokes, TT Bresnan, GP Swann, SCJ Broad, JM Anderson, JW Dernbach
India team
AM Rahane, PA Patel, R Dravid, V Kohli, SK Raina, MS Dhoni*†, RA Jadeja, R Ashwin, P Kumar, MM Patel, RP Singh
Surprised Aaron still not given a go...

agreed Gregg. Bowled well.
i think the pitch turned a lot more than early on for Swann.
probably one game left then so India must win on Sunday.

That'll do it for England, good hit from Swann.
Indian pace unit has been collectively poor yet again, will this at least open the chances of Varun Aaron getting a game?

There you go, another win. Seriously need to sort out the negativity trebs, to be calling for Flower to be replaced and saying we're going to lose every 5 seconds despite being in a winning position is ridiculous. Don't worry though I'm sure we'll lose the next match so that should cheer you up eh?

I should also add that Bopara played a decent innings. I am one of his biggest critics but he did well tonight.

Credit to India for putting up a really good fight though.
they were huge today,
it must help though when your half of the crowd roar for every single ball and dance like they've won and never ever acknowledge what the other team achieve.
Next week is done i reckon, we have two weeks of consistent rain coming up in the west.

He attacked well at back end of his innings.
Re: England vs India - third ODI
We dont know what Cooks instructions for Bopara were trebbs. Maybe he played exactly the way his captain asked him to.
I am a huge critic of his but credit where its due.

well yes that's fair.
need to think about why it was close after that start.
maybe the fields should have been more attacking?

Re: England vs India - third ODI
In the end it was a very comfortable win for England. Kieswetter set them up with a blinding start and the rest just took it home. Even if England had to chase the full total i feel they would have cruised home with at least 5 overs to spare.
I really doubted that they could win this but they played well.

Re: England vs India - third ODI
yeah they must take massive heart from the support but in results it's been a world apart from their 2007 visit here.
Eng should be confident but also know that it's not quite right yet.
Probably just need the big hitters back in the middle order.
Why did they arrange a match in Wales for mid September? it's going to be a wash-out.

Re: England vs India - third ODI
Bopara ended up with a good run a ball 40 but I was very frustrated by how often he found the fielders when trying to get a single. Once again the situation was good for him in that he didn't need to force the pace. He played well but shouldn't have got out before the end - possibly a bit harsh!
Trebs - there is nothing wrong with saying that the ODI stuff isn't quite right atm because I agree with you, we are yet to find the right team. Bresnan is too high at 7 but did well today. We are not far off though imo, the bowling still looks toothless but I think having the new ball from each end rule will help us in that regard. I've said this before but my ODI team going forward would be something like:
Cook
Kieswetter
Bell
KP
Morgan
Taylor
Stokes
Bresnan
Broad
Swann
Anderson
The problem is that assuming Stokes can bowl it leaves all 5 bowlers needing to do their 10 overs unless KP fills in. This is why they want Bopara to succeed I think as he can come in at 6 and bowl some overs of useful seam. Patel could also do this role if a spinner is required or in India you could even play Monty (or Borthwick/Rashid) instead of one of the frontline seamers.

Dernbach over Anderson

Depending on conditions I would agree with you, when it will swing around he has to play, when it won't then possibly not.

Dernbach over Anderson
Did you see the way Dernbach bowled today? Massively overrated at the death and you can see his slower balls coming from a mile off.
Anderson bowled superb today got us into a situation where we could of bowled India out for under 150.

Maybe he ment to put ... as a build up of what he was going to say.
Re: England vs India - third ODI
You cannot see Jade's slower balls coming a mile off and we should be looking to get a young side together. How you can say he's overrated at the death is beyond me.

Re: England vs India - third ODI
He bowls 3, 4 slower balls an over the batsman are expecting it. What's the point of putting a young side together if there not as good as the senior players.
Bresnan is better at the death than Dernbach, which he's shown in the last few matches. I like Dernbach as a T20 bowler but as a one-day bowler i'm not convinced.

Re: England vs India - third ODI
Dernbach needs to improve his 'regulation' bowling but if he can mix in his slower balls a bit more cleverly with well directed quicker balls (see the one that got Kevin o'Brien out - 90mh leg stump yorker) then he can be a very good ODI bowler. At the moment he is bowling too many slow ones imo but they are still generally difficult to put away for boundaries.

Re: England vs India - third ODI
PS - he has improved massively over the last couple of years so no reason he won't continue to do so. If you has said to any Surrey supporter 3 years ago that Jade would be playing for England in 2011 they would have laughed!

A mate of mine mentioned him last year and iv'e got to admit i didn't see him breaking into the side , i like the slower balls he just needs to vary it more imo.

Re: England vs India - third ODI
Whilst we are 2-0 up in the series, this current Indian side is hardly the World cup winners, so it feels a slight hollow victory for me. I think the real test of us is to win the series in India in October. Read somewhere that guys like Harbhajan, Yuvraj, R Sharma, I Sharma, Sehwag, Gambhir etc willall play in that series.

Well I'd be pretty sure they'll reinforce the seam bowling. Nehra? Ishant? As even I'd score runs vs Vinay Kumar and RP Singh in any conditions!!!!KingKenny7Heaven wrote:It will definatley be tougher over there whoever plays for them .
