England vs India - third ODI
First topic message reminder :
So here we go again, England have won the toss and decided to bowl first, Cook feeling it isn't easy to defend a score here at the Oval. England make the one change, with Trott coming back into the side for Samit Patel, while India make two changes: Jadeja in for Tiwary to strengthen their bowling, and R.P. Singh for Vinay Kumar.
England team
AN Cook*, C Kieswetter†, IJL Trott, IR Bell, RS Bopara, BA Stokes, TT Bresnan, GP Swann, SCJ Broad, JM Anderson, JW Dernbach
India team
AM Rahane, PA Patel, R Dravid, V Kohli, SK Raina, MS Dhoni*†, RA Jadeja, R Ashwin, P Kumar, MM Patel, RP Singh
Surprised Aaron still not given a go...

oh and he does what i figured he might do, tries to just smash at a ball that he really shouldn't an edges himself out.
he's a big hitter but he's not a clever cricketer is he.
I'd say MSD fits that label more. He can go big but he can be much more watchful.

Re: England vs India - third ODI
Oh my word what a DREADFUL shot by Raina, steps away has a massive heave and nicks to Kieswetter. Given the situation that was truly awful. Well done Broad though, he's bowled very nicely today so far...

Re: England vs India - third ODI
well i think that's Raina, kind of has one way to play even if it's completely silly given the need to occupy the crease and rebuild.
I bet MSD plays it smarter. Poor guy is a great man surrounded by some real plonkers at times.

Re: England vs India - third ODI
Broad bowled very well to Raina there.
The wild swipe was the result of the pressure building up. Not smart , but hardly unexpected.
England are bowling well today. If Dhoni goes this could be an early night ...

Swanny on, and that's a pretty good start, though no great turn on offer

Broad a touch too short in that over to Jadeja, I'd like to see him pitch it up a bit more...

Solid rebuilding here from India. Giving themselves a chance of attacking later.

Re: England vs India - third ODI
Trebell there 80-5 one more wicket and it's the tail. They won't have the chance to attack later.
Re: England vs India - third ODI
well, i think Dhoni could though he does also have to protect the tail.
They should surely get past 200 though.
I think beebs 270-280 looks way high as a par score.

Oooo Jadeja should have been run out there, but Anderson misses the stumps. Not an easy place to hit from to be fair, England have been pretty sharp in the field so far today you have to say

Re: England vs India - third ODI
If this partnership hangs around for a while then they could get 200.
Re: England vs India - third ODI
Knigh says he feels England are letting India release the pressure.
Never takes him long to start slagging them even if it clearly is getting flatter out there.
Good shot there and the Indians are waking up, sounds like a home game again. They sure get excited.

Re: England vs India - third ODI
England set for 2-0 up here already, at the half stage of the first innings.
Ones Rahane and Dravid failed, this was always on the cards. At least it shows why MSD should bat up the order more often than not.

Re: England vs India - third ODI
oo looking at that over i think India still can hit big.
these two could well rebuild this if they hit out like that.
You can see their confidence rising, you can hear Knight getting on Englands back and you can hear the Indian crowd starting to believe they are winning again. It's certainly not over yet.

Re: England vs India - third ODI
heck yes but i don't think Nick Knight is.
I'm just saying i don't think we can't assume this is over. India are far from defeated and you cn see their huge noisy support lifting them again.

Re: England vs India - third ODI
And why oh why RP Singh? India's attack was found one dimensional last time around, so what they do, replace a slow medium with an even more erratic, and even more slower medium slow bowler. All these when they have Varun Aaron available, who at least can bowl fast, if nothing else. Not that Aaron would give all the answers to India's bowling problems, but at least that would have been a step in the right direction.

Bopara coming on for a trundle, with Bresnan still off the field, anyone know what the problem is there?

Moggy needs shoulder surgery then. Shame but I guess someone else gets a chance now.

Re: England vs India - third ODI
Need a lot from Dhoni to reach 200. Though Jadeja is backing him up pretty well so far.
Only needs one mistake and we really are into the tail ... which hasn't wagged much on this tour.
Bopara time ...

Bad luck for Morgan.
England will miss him in Indian ODIs. As trebs says , chance for someone else...but he is a key player in those conditions.

Re: England vs India - third ODI
remarkably all of Jadeja's 31 runs have come through the off-side. Dunno what Knight's going on about, this is a very good pitch for batting on IMO, ball coming onto the bat nicely, no real turn, and I don't think India's bowlers are good enough to take advantage of the early help that England enjoyed...

Some the fielders are looking pigeon toed to me today.
Umpires need to check the numbers, far too many out there.

Re: England vs India - third ODI
msd doing what i felt he would. smarter than raina. taking the bad balls and hanging around.
with him there and the usual "double the score at 30" then eng will face more than 200. doable but tricky. it's getting flatter though.
i agree it looks a good pitch actually, india shouldn't have lost so many really but conditions have eased too.

he was a bit unlucky there though trebs, inside-edge just squeaking past leg stump for four

Re: England vs India - third ODI
well true. but he's definitely not as tight as the frontline bowlers... to be fair he's not expected to be.
i'm being too harsh on him.

Afternoon lads, missed all the action so far . Looks like India are doing well to dig themselves out of a very nasty hole.
Good to see Bopara score 16 off 12...... oh wait

Good to see Cookie being pro-active in his captaincy, the bringing of an extra man to the off-side in the previous Bresnan over, and placing himself at square legr rather than short fine leg there to Dhoni...
