Re: Golf Quiz[z]
One to ponder for you a fairly simple one. A two parter
Part one: in 1986 which golfer set the record for number of birdies in oneround at the masters with a total number of 10?
Part 2: at the 2009 masters in round 2 who broke this record with 11 birdies?

Part 2: at the 2009 masters in round 2 who broke this record with 11 birdies?

Not Dan Forsman no!
Keep trying for part 1 guys,
Here's a couple of clues:
Clue 1: he has won a major (just the one)
Clue 2: don't get this mans name mixed up with a wrestler

Re: Golf Quiz[z]
I think that Kwini is correct in that Nick Price got 10 birdies in round 3.
I know that Wiki... is not definitive but
"Price set a single-round record at Augusta with ten birdies in round 3."

Re: Golf Quiz[z]
Nick Price is a red herring because he did have 10 birdies in his 63 in the 3rd round that year but that equalled the number of birdies made the previous day by someone else who was that?

Re: Golf Quiz[z]
The only player that had a decent(ish) round on the 2nd day and has won 1 major is John Mahaffey. Never heard of any wrestler of that name, though.

Re: Golf Quiz[z]
The reason this one is stumping everyone is they are assuming 10 birdies = a low round, when you factor in the bogies he had as well you may figure out who it was...

Re: Golf Quiz[z]
Most Birdies, One Round
11 - Anthony Kim, 2009, second round
10 - Nick Price, 1986, third round
From golf.com
& from sporting life
Most birdies in a round: 10 Nick Price 1986
Surely if Nick Price was just equalling someone's 10 birdies both names would be there ?

Brilliant, just looked at the book Mrs Mav got me, and fine print on the back,"not all the facts printed in this book are 100% accurately researched at time of printing" so lets scratch the question and take Nick Price as the answer. I'm also drafting an email to the company that created it.

The sad thing is they do not even have the sense to question the "facts" never mind admit they might not be 100% accurate.

NedB-H wrote:Out of interest, who did the book think it should be?
The ridiculous answer in the book and one I in all honesty should have thought to question as soon as I saw it considering when he turned pro but never gave much thought was Shaun Micheel, it's not till I sat down looked again and realised what a pile of crap.
Went through the book and found some other Gems such as:
How many majors did Jack Nicklaus win - 16!!! No he won 18 everyone knows that
Who did Nick Faldo beat in a playoff to win the US Master in 1990 - Scott Hoch!! No that was 1989 in 90 he beat Floyd
and my personal favourite, Which major did Lee Trevino never win - the Open nearly died when I saw that we all know it's the masters, he certainly won the open and destroyed Jacklins career in the process
anyway...
I wrote an email to the company in quetion explaining what a kumquat I was made to look like amongst knowledgeable golfers on a forum I post on and felt aggrieved that they were making money from such tripe and palming it off as golfing trivia. Noted on there the above errors and many more that were glaring when you sat and read it properly and not skimming it at a glance as I did initially.
I just got the following response and I think sums them up perfectly for the Shysters that they clearly are.
Thankyou kindly for choosing to provide us with feedback with regards to our golfing trivia 2011 publication. As you will be aware as an owner of the publication that the period of trivia covered spans over 50years; It would be near on impossible for us to accurately check every detail and make it to print deadlines in time for distribution.
If either yourself or te fellow posters to your forum feel you have been made to look foolish we can take no responsibility for this other than to say it may have been an idea for you to check your facts with sites such as google or Wikipedia first. At this stage no action will be take to recall the books due to the high volume of sales and popularity of our product. We will also not be taking your grievence any further as we feel by responding directly to you we have met our requirements as the vendor of the product.
I nearly collapsed reading that....... Impossible to check facts, thats what most publisher pay researchers for!
Telling me to check my facts against google or wikipedia, thats openly acknowledging they know they've printed crap but trying to blame me for it!
They won't take it off sale so are happy to sell a pack of lies to the unwitting public and reap the fiscal rewards.
They've fulfilled their criteria for responding...
I don't usually condone swearing but what a bunch of merchant bankers...
Promptly responded and sent into watchdog....

That's an amazing reply from the publishers!
Is the book for sale on Amazon or similar? Could be worth while some "reviews" of their product

Not Jones, won several US Opens and 3 Open Championships.
Must be a catch here, most likely associated with the "UK" . . . . .
Or maybe won more than 3 Majors?

I take it you have not made an error in calling the open championship the british open. so either there has never been a british open, so no one can have played in it, or person did not play in an event that did exist called the british open.
Still cant get the answer.
