Union Cane's Prediction League - Season 2 - Final Results
First topic message reminder :
Week Five Results
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Week Five Review
The Fights
Only three fights this week, Karl Place's opponent dropped out late on, adding to Danny Williams' withdrawal earlier in the week. In the fights that did happen, Jason Booth learned the lesson that you can't go on for ever, the younger Scott Quigg really did a job on him and his career looks to be over, certainly at super bantamweight. It comes to us all eventually. In the other fights, Donaire earned a shut-out 3 x 120-108 unanimous decision, confirming his lofty P4P ranking, and Marco Huck KO'ed his opponent in 6.
The Premiership
A fantastic week for compelling and rich, who managed to get all three fights spot on, earning himself 12 points, a big jump up the table to finish in 4th place, and of course a Predictor of the Week award.
It was the same old story for Knowsit17, the Prediction League's perennial choker once again failing to hold on to a lead when it matters, a measly 4 points drops him to a 3rd place finish. Second place went to sodhat, a case of ever the bridesmaid never the bride for our Prediction Cup runner-up.
Top of the tree though is Eyetoldyouso, our new champion claiming his title with an impressive 10 point haul. I am sure you will all join me in congratulating our new champ.
It's not all happiness and joy though, as alma, Michaels, ian_jamsie, JJJohnson and, believe it or not, Union Cane have all been relegated from the Premiership.
The Championship
School Project becomes the first Championship Champion, a nine point haul this week propelling him to the top. Dass, Jdandfries and 88Chris05 will all join him in next season's Premiership, however there is drama surrounding the fifth promotion place, with 6oldenbhoy and ermietrude tied on 29 points. They can't be separated by the Highest Weekly Score criteria, both having high-scores of 9 points, so a play-off will be required. Details below...
*Update*
The Play-Offs couldn't separate 6oldenbhoy and ermietrude, so given the exceptional circumstances, I have decided that Season 3's Premiership will have 21 places, they are both promoted.

Scoring and Rules
- I will list fights 1 - 5, this list will be definitive, when predicting please list fights in the same order.
- Predict the winner - 1 point
- - Predict the method (KO*/Pts) - 1 point
- - - Predict 'Early' or 'Late' (for KO) / 'Unanimous' or 'Majority/Split' (for Pts) - 1 point
- Get all three above correct - 1 bonus point
- Correctly predicting a draw (be it majority or even technical) will score you 10 points
- Any entries that are subsequently amended will be void.
- If a fight is cancelled, postponed, or if a fighter drops out and is replaced, that fight is then void.
- Each season will be five weeks long.
- There will be promotion and relegation between the two divisions, with the top five in the Championship replacing the bottom five in the Premiership at the end of each season.
- If at the end of the season players are level on points, the player with the highest individual weekly score will take the higher placing.
- Nobody is automatically entered into the Championship, anyone can enter, simply post your predictions to take part, using the format detailed below. You can enter at any point in the season, after all, 5 draws is 50 points which could win promotion in one week.
- If the official result of a fight is changed within one week of the fight having taken place, the new result will be applied. After one week, the result as given will stand.
- Union Cane's decision is final.
Example Entry - Please use this format :
1. Paulie Maglinaggi - KO Early
2. Edwin Valero - Pts UD
3. Calvin Brock - KO Late
4. Jessie Vargas - Pts M/SD

Would just like to say that I'm 100% behind your decision whatever it turns out to be, Union. Whether it's beneficial to me or not, it's your league and therefore your rules, people should know better than to argue with that.

Re: Union Cane's Prediction League - Season 2 - Final Results
Well done Union. Small gripe here though. I think Genius of PBF should get predictor of the week award. It was a good performance from compelling and rich but the award hasn't always gone to the highest scorer (see Michaels for getting 3 points in season one) and PBF managed to go from the drop zone to mid-table in one week. I have a feeling that our resident fantasist would actually take some genuine pride in it as well.
Wonder if jeff will offer his congratulations to me for avoiding the drop?

He won't change it c&r, he never does. Your award will be safe. It was a great performance and congratulations to you, I was merely trying to help PBF out, he takes it ever so seriously and it would be one of his proudest ever nights.

Re: Union Cane's Prediction League - Season 2 - Final Results
It is stated in YOUR rules that the first selections are final so my out burst on Friday is irrelevant. I trust you'll amend the table in time.

Too many witnesses saw that you had pulled out, Sean, so Union has every right to respect your wishes from Friday. Perhaps a "I was a little rash on Friday. Could you re-instate me, please" type of approach might actually give you a better chance at success.

Union doesn't apply common sense to this league so his rules must be adhered to at all times.

I don't know if I'm disappointed for finishing second or pleased that I didn't get relegated.

It is an inconvenience, so i think due to my bravery and warrior like will to continue i should be granted 20 extra points and promotion to the premier league

I think we should rename knowsit as "Greg Norman"..... Seemingly in control coming down the stretch only to drop a brick and bottle it.
I wonder how Rowley will take the news that Tino has avoided relegation...

Mind the windows Tino. wrote:Well done Union.
Gladly Tina, am actually happy you did it, gives us chance to lock horns again next season.

Union
I reckon for next season you should have at least two backup fights just incase one becomes void. Think one fight has been void every week bar one

Union, surely you go on a countback of:
Number of predictor of the weeks
Highest weekly points score
If that doesn't seperate them go by number of spot on predictions.......

What drama indeed Union.
Must admit there is a hell of a lot of guess work here in my predictions for these fights, good ol' Boxrec....
1. Akira Yaegashi Points, SD
2. Ryuji Hara, Points, UD
3. Li Wen Yang. KO, Late
4. Ryuji Fujii, KO, Late

Nothing uglier than a sore loser.
Will I get a runners up medal or something Union? I expect no cost to be spared to commemorate my glorious season.

Michaels, you have nothing to moan about. You got the Hopkins fight wrong, deal with it. Do let us all know what the championship feels like, please.
jeff, you really are in a good mood today. Congratulating me, congratulating the winners. It's a refreshing change.
Makes me feel a bit uneasy though.

That's a strange stance coming from the slug who was in 100% agreement with me on Friday. I'd hazard a guess it will be very similar to the premiership but will let you know..

Re: Union Cane's Prediction League - Season 2 - Final Results
With the biggest fight of the coming weekend being 45 year old Howard "The Battersea Bomber" Eastman fighting for the vacant Guyanese middleweight title, it seems that the boxing gods are telling me to take a break.
Season 3 will begin next week.

I just tend to judge how the argument is stacked up and then change sides whomever is winning it.
You really don't have to be so rude to me though.
