CF - a fevered imagination..... Talking of which - presumably the news you imparted some weeks ago that Tim Phillips was emptying his locker was no more than his annual end of season clear out of old apple cores and lost smelly socks

Re: County Ins and outs
Presumably the item on the Essex website below is a hoax....
Essex’s slow left-arm bowler, Tim Phillips, has signed a one-year extension to his contract that will keep him at The Ford County Ground until the 2012 season. Phillips, 30, has been a key player in Essex’s one-day campaign taking 26 and 17 wickets in the 2011 Friends Life t20 and Clydesdale Bank 40 competitions respectively.
Phillips said, “I’m very excited to have signed the new contract with Essex. Next season is going to be a big year for Essex and I want to be part of it. We had an indifferent season in 2011 but hopefully we can show the Essex crowd what we are capable of and perform to our ability.
“Personally, I had strong campaign in one-day cricket especially in the Twenty20. I will take this into 2012 to help the team improve the consistency and I’m sure we can go further in all formats of the game to improve how we did this season.”
Essex Head Coach Paul Grayson said, “Tim has had a very successful one day season and he now needs to push on with his four day cricket.
“He made a massive contribution to the one day squad which was very good to see and we are delighted he has signed a further one-year extension to his contract”

Australian batsman David Hussey has claimed on his Twitter account he is set to return to Nottinghamshire from June 2012.
The 34-year-old said on the social networking site: "I'll be back to Notts from June onwards & can't wait."
Notts are yet to confirm the news, but any decision would depend on Hussey's commitments with the Australian side.

I'm a bit surprised he wasn't in the Indian team. On the face of it picking two spinners not a brilliant idea - but he was very much an in form bowler....

Kent have appointed former West Indies captain Jimmy Adams as the county's new head coach for this season.

very suprised by the news, however i think its a very good move for kent.

Re: County Ins and outs
Apparently Kent had 49 applicants from 6 different countries. This financial crisis thing is everywhere...
More seriously, good luck to Jimmy A, he's done reasonable things with the young West Indians, and Kent have a few players coming through their academy (guys like Northeast, a couple of other highly rated young batsmen). They've really struggled the last few years, so hopefully will be on their way back up again soon.
Best of luck to Farbie with yorkshire's 2nds as well.

Re: County Ins and outs
Somerset miss out on Kieron Pollard for the T20 as he is going to be in the Windies squad for the tour of England...
However, as a replacement, they sign the King of Calypso CHRIS GAYLE!
Gayle
Trescothick
Kieswetter
Van de Merwe
Hildreth
Trego
Buttler
Wow. That is pretty fearsome.

With that line up no need for anyone to try and bribe opposition bowlers to concede 12 an over - it will probably happen whether or not the bowler is trying.....JDizzle wrote:

Re: County Ins and outs
12 an over? That's only two sixes an over! A bit conservative don't you think Corporal?! People could spot fix for 24 an over and you wouldn't be suspicious against that line up!
And I think we at Somerset are very close to completing probably at least the most destructive batting line from any English side. Maybe just one JJ Roy sized piece away?

no it isnt...last 2 years they had pollard instead of gayle, and in t20 isnt much difference between the two, and they bottled it both years.

Pollard got injured for one of them, and Gayle is better.

What is Division 2 of the CC like CF? We at Somerset wouldn't know!
And at least we have got to the finals to bottle them, haha!

hmmmm bottling it every year builds up quite a reputation, and can mentally unnerve players

Gayle has been there and done it though, he will help. He has greater experience than Pollard had. Tres has experience aswell and then with young guns like Buttler and the quality Somerset have it is only a matter of time before they win something.

Re: County Ins and outs
Somehow i don't think players like Gayle, Kieswetter, Buttler or Trescothick would be unnerved by whats happend last 2 years. And by law of averages Hildreth is due one of his outstanding years again now

Robbie Joseph, formely of Kent, has joined Leicestershire on a short-term deal initially until the end of May. Could be a good move for him as he looked a good talent before getting beset by injuries and struggling to make the side.

Re: County Ins and outs
I saw Robbie Joseph in what I think was his final CC game for Kent against Surrey at the Oval last season. He had a torrid time. Felt sorry for him.
Sadly, he now seems to have reached the end of the road as a short-term move to abysmal Leics surely signifies.

Re: County Ins and outs
Van de Merwe is unlikely to gain a work permit to play for Somerset next season, so they just sign Albie Morkel as a replacement for the T20. No issues then.
Tres - Gayle - Kies - Trego - Hildreth - Morkel - Buttler.

Ex-Middlesex batsman Dan Housego has signed a three-year contract with Gloucestershire.
23year old Housego left the metropolitan county last year in search of more first team opportunities, and returns to the county where he was previously part of The Academy.

Thanks, Corporal. Hadn't spotted coverage of that yet but not surprised. I think I saw a couple of T20 games at the Oval last year. Nannes seemed very well regarded by his fellow players.
