The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the team photos of the World Cup finalists. Or the action shots (put up especially for Cari) of McCaw, Kahui and Corey Jane.
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Evening all, sorry to hear about the father in law too Portnoys.
I played 2 matches at GD tonight, I think I'll be sore tomorrow ...
But we won both and I had 2 pretty good games so it'll be good pain

when the gazelle wakes up on the African plains he knows that unless he can outrun the fastest lion that day he's going to die.
When the lion wakes up they know that unless they can outrun the slowest gazelle that day they're going go starve and die.
Whether you're a gazelle or a lion, when the sun comes up, you better be ready to run.

I know man. I was reading a book about warehouse management (seriously) and that was one of the quotes in it. I like it though.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Man's greatest asset is his ability to sweat.
We should have been rubbish as hunters. We have no claws, no fangs, we're not even that quick. But because we cool ourselves down by sweating, we can run for a long time. Our prey - antelopes and the like - are faster than us but after a while they overheat and because they don't sweat, they have to stop or they'll faint. All we had to do was keep our prey on the run for long enough and they were ours. So hooray for sweat.
Bore da pawb / good morning all.

I think you are guilty of anthrapomorhacising those animals. If they knew rather than just did those things they would have reasoning power. In which case the Gazelles would be able to gang up in sufficient numbers to attack the lions, and the Lions would take up gardening.

Metaphorically they're the marathon champions of the supply chain world. Apparently.
Luckless, that's really fascinating. Makes perfect sense but i never would have arrived at that conclusion unless it was explained. I would have said we were just successful because we're smarter than our prey.

Last night I reached for my liquid Viagra and accidentally swigged from a bottle of Tippex.
I woke this morning with a huge correction.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
We had an interesting talk at our ref meeting last night about the RWC in general which inevitably led to discussion of THAT red card and the blazers were passing on the feedback from IRFU and IRB for us. We also had a presentation from a Pro 12 citing commissioner about it.
At grassroots level our approach now is: If you do a tip tackle your getting carded. The only way to avoid a card is to realise your mistake and to get the player the right way up. A red if he is being tackled in a downwards motion towards the ground or if he is dropped in mid air.
Intent doesn't matter, nor does whether the player was injured, nor does his record/conduct in the match etc - these are matters for the disciplinary hearing not for the ref.

Yeah well, I was offended by your mate constantly trying to outdo the tutor and show off in a course which meant we had a short lunch missed out on a tea break and were still late finishing, even though he BUGGERED OFF EARLY!!
